A Compactness Theorem for The Dual Gromov-Hausdorff Propinquity
We prove a compactness theorem for the dual Gromov-Hausdorff propinquity as a
noncommutative analogue of the Gromov compactness theorem for the
Gromov-Hausdorff distance. Our theorem is valid for subclasses of quasi-Leibniz
compact quantum metric spaces of the closure of finite dimensional
quasi-Leibniz compact quantum metric spaces for the dual propinquity. While
finding characterizations of this class proves delicate, we show that all
nuclear, quasi-diagonal quasi-Leibniz compact quantum metric spaces are limits
of finite dimensional quasi-Leibniz compact quantum metric spaces. This result
involves a mild extension of the definition of the dual propinquity to
quasi-Leibniz compact quantum metric spaces, which is presented in the first

Quantum Turbulent Structure in Light
The infinite superpositions of random plane waves are known to be threaded
with vortex line singularities which form complicated tangles and obey strict
topological rules. We observe that within these structures a timelike axis
appears to emerge with which we can define vortex velocities in a useful way:
with both numerical simulations and optical experiments, we show that the
statistics of these velocities match those of turbulent quantum fluids such as
superfluid helium and atomic Bose-Einstein condensates. These statistics are
shown to be independent of system scale. These results raise deep questions
about the general nature of quantum chaos and the role of nonlinearity in the

Neutral color-spin locking phase in neutron stars
We present results for the spin-1 color-spin locking phase (CSL) using a
NJL-type model in two flavor quark matter for compact stars applications. The
CSL condensate is flavor symmetric and therefore charge and color neutrality
can easily be satisfied. We find small energy gaps ~1 MeV, which make the CSL
matter composition and the EoS not very different from the normal quark matter
phase. We keep finite quark masses in our calculations and obtain no gapless
modes that could have strong consequences in the late cooling of neutron stars.
Finally, we show that the region of the phase diagram relevant for neutron star
cores, when asymmetric flavor pairing is suppressed, could be covered by the

The Ultraviolet Radiation Environment Around M dwarf Exoplanet Host Stars
The spectral and temporal behavior of exoplanet host stars is a critical
input to models of the chemistry and evolution of planetary atmospheres. At
present, little observational or theoretical basis exists for understanding the
ultraviolet spectra of M dwarfs, despite their critical importance to
predicting and interpreting the spectra of potentially habitable planets as
they are obtained in the coming decades. Using observations from the Hubble
Space Telescope, we present a study of the UV radiation fields around nearby M
dwarf planet hosts that covers both FUV and NUV wavelengths. The combined
FUV+NUV spectra are publically available in machine-readable format. We find
that all six exoplanet host stars in our sample (GJ 581, GJ 876, GJ 436, GJ
832, GJ 667C, and GJ 1214) exhibit some level of chromospheric and transition
region UV emission. No "UV quiet" M dwarfs are observed. The bright stellar
Ly-alpha emission lines are reconstructed, and we find that the Ly-alpha line
fluxes comprise ~37-75% of the total 1150-3100A flux from most M dwarfs; >
10^{3} times the solar value. The F(FUV)/F(NUV) flux ratio, a driver for
abiotic production of the suggested biomarkers O2 and O3, is shown to be ~0.5-3
for all M dwarfs in our sample, > 10^{3} times the solar ratio. For the four
stars with moderate signal-to-noise COS time-resolved spectra, we find UV
emission line variability with amplitudes of 50-500% on 10^{2} - 10^{3} s
timescales. Finally, we observe relatively bright H2 fluorescent emission from
four of the M dwarf exoplanetary systems (GJ 581, GJ 876, GJ 436, and GJ 832).
Additional modeling work is needed to differentiate between a stellar
photospheric or possible exoplanetary origin for the hot (T(H2) \approx

Post-Prior discrepancies in CDW-EIS calculations for ion impact ionization fully differential cross sections
In this work we present fully differential cross sections (FDCSs)
calculations using post and prior version of CDW--EIS theory for helium single
ionization by 100 MeV C amu and 3.6 MeV amu Au and
Au ions. We performed our calculations for different momentum transfer
and ejected electron energies. The influence of internuclear potential on the
ejected electron spectra is taken into account in all cases. We compare our
calculations with absolute experimental measurements. It is shown that prior
version calculations give better agreement with experiments in almost all

A cyclical period variation detected in the updated orbital period analysis of TV Columbae
The two CCD photometries of the intermediate polar TV Columbae are made for
obtaining the two updated eclipse timings with high precision. There is an
interval time \sim 17yr since the last mid-eclipse time observed in 1991. Thus,
the new mid-eclipse times can offer an opportunity to check the previous
orbital ephemerides. A calculation indicates that the orbital ephemeris derived
by Augusteijn et al. (1994) should be corrected. Based on the proper linear
ephemeris (Hellier, 1993), the new orbital period analysis suggests a cyclical
period variation in the O-C diagram of TV Columbae. Using Applegate's mechanism
to explain the periodic oscillation in O-C diagram, the required energy is
larger than that a M0-type star can afford over a complete variation period
\sim 31.0(\pm 3.0)yr. Thus, the light travel-time effect indicates that the
tertiary component in TV Columbae may be a dwarf with a low mass, which is near
the mass lower limit \sim 0.08Msun as long as the inclination of the third body

Muc5ac mucin expression during rat skin development
Some mucin genes have been detected during human embryonic and fetal organ development; however, little is known about mucin expression in epidermal development, neither in humans nor in other species. The present research was developed to explore Muc5ac skin expression during prenatal and postnatal rat development. Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Western blotting (WB) and RT-PCR were employed. By IHC, Muc5ac protein was found early in embryonic epidermis from day 13 of gestation until seven days after birth when the surface epidermis became negative and the reaction was restricted to secreting sebum cells. In coincidence with IHC findings, WB analysis showed a band at approximately 200KDa at the same periods of development. Results were also confirmed by RT-PCR. Muc5ac expression in rat embryonic epidermis suggests that Muc5ac may play a protective role in embryonic skin previous to birth which may be replaced by pile covering. Enhanced surface interaction of water confined in hierarchical porous polymers induced by hydrogen bonding
Hierarchical porous polymer systems are increasingly applied to catalysis, bioengineering, or separation technology because of the versatility provided by the connection of mesopores with percolating macroporous structures. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) is a suitable technique for the study of such systems as it can detect signals stemming from the confined liquid and translate this information into pore size, molecular mobility, and liquid−surface interactions. We focus on the properties of water confined in macroporous polymers of ethylene glycol dimethacrylate and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate [poly- (EGDMA-co-HEMA)] with different amounts of cross-linkers, in which a substantial variation of hydroxyl groups is achieved. As soft polymer scaffolds may swell upon saturation with determined liquids, the use of NMR is particularly important as it measures the system in its operational state. This study combines different NMR techniques to obtain information on surface interactions of water with hydrophilic polymer chains. A transition from a surface-induced relaxation in which relaxivity depends on the pore size to a regime where the organic pore surface strongly restricts water diffusion is observed. Adding Recognition Discriminability Index to the Delayed Recall Is Useful to Predict Conversion from Mild Cognitive Impairment to Alzheimer's Disease in the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative
Background: Ongoing research is focusing on the identification of those individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) who are most likely to convert to Alzheimer's disease (AD). We investigated whether recognition memory tasks in combination with delayed recall measure of episodic memory and CSF biomarkers can predict MCI to AD conversion at 24-month follow-up. Methods: A total of 397 amnestic-MCI subjects from Alzheimer's disease Neuroimaging Initiative were included. Logistic regression modeling was done to assess the predictive value of all RAVLT measures, risk factors such as age, sex, education, APOE genotype, and CSF biomarkers for progression to AD. Estimating adjusted odds ratios was used to determine which variables would produce an optimal predictive model, and whether adding tests of interaction between the RAVLT Delayed Recall and recognition measures (traditional score and d-prime) would improve prediction of the conversion from a-MCI to AD. Results: 112 (28.2%) subjects developed dementia and 285 (71.8%) subjects did not. Of the all included variables, CSF Aβ1-42 levels, RAVLT Delayed Recall, and the combination of RAVLT Delayed Recall and d-prime were predictive of progression to AD (χ2 = 38.23, df = 14, p < 0.001). Conclusions: The combination of RAVLT Delayed Recall and d-prime measures may be predictor of conversion from MCI to AD in the ADNI cohort, especially in combination with amyloid biomarkers. A predictive model to help identify individuals at-risk for dementia should include not only traditional episodic memory measures (delayed recall or recognition), but also additional variables (d-prime) that allow the homogenization of the assessment procedures in the diagnosis of MCI.Fil: Russo, María Julieta. Uses and perceived benefits of green spaces in Buenos Aires
Los espacios verdes urbanos proveen de un amplio rango de beneficios (físicos, ambientales, sicológicos y sociales) pero algunos tipos de parques son aparentemente más importantes en la provisión de ciertos beneficios. En este estudio se analizó la calidad y la percepción en dos parques y dos plazas de los barrios de Caballito y Flores en la ciudad de Buenos Aires. Se aplicó el índice de Bandera Verde para estimar la calidad y encuestas (n:232) para explorar la percepción de los usuarios por medio de 10 preguntas. Cuatro de ellas indagaban sobre el espacio público en general, seis sobre los espacios verdes seleccionados en particular. Los resultados indican que las áreas verdes son sitios valorizados, utilizados de diferente manera por los residentes o gente proveniente de otros lugares, atraída por la calidad de los espacios. Se observó que el tamaño y la oferta de actividades/infraestructura jugaba un rol importante en cómo se usa y en cuáles beneficios se reconocen y perciben.Urban green spaces provide a full range of community benefits (physical, environmental, psychological and social) but some parks types appear differentially important in providing certain benefit types. In this study we analyzed quality and perception of two parks and two plazas in Caballito and Flores neighbourhood (Buenos Aires city). We used the green flag index for green spaces´ quality and interviews (n:232) to explore people`s perception asking 10 questions, four referred to public spaces in general and six referred to the selected green spaces in both neighbourhoods. Results showed that parks and plazas are valued spaces, different visited by residents or by people coming elsewhere attracted by high-quality green spaces. Our findings showed that size and the offer of activities/infrastructure play a role in how a green space is used and how different benefits are recognised and perceived.Fil: Craik, Jonathan.
