Gravitational Rutherford scattering and Keplerian orbits for electrically charged bodies in heterotic string theory
Properties of the motion of electrically charged particles in the background
of the Gibbons-Maeda-Garfinkle-Horowitz-Strominger (GMGHS) black hole is
presented in this paper. Radial and angular motion are studied analytically for
different values of the fundamental parameter. Therefore, gravitational
Rutherford scattering and Keplerian orbits are analysed in detail. Finally,
this paper complements previous work by Fernando for null geodesics (Phys. Rev.
D 85: 024033, 2012), Olivares & Villanueva (Eur. Phys. J. C 73: 2659, 2013) and
Blaga (Automat. Comp. Appl. Math. 22, 41 (2013); Serb. Astron. J. 190, 41
(2015)) for time-like geodesics.Comment: 11 pages, 12 figure
Scalar field critical collapse in 2+1 dimensions
We carry out numerical experiments in the critical collapse of a spherically
symmetric massless scalar field in 2+1 spacetime dimensions in the presence of
a negative cosmological constant and compare them against a new theoretical
model. We approximate the true critical solution as the Garfinkle
solution, matched at the lightcone to a Vaidya-like solution, and corrected to
leading order for the effect of . This approximation is only
at the lightcone and has three growing modes. We {\em conjecture} that
pointwise it is a good approximation to a yet unknown true critical solution
that is analytic with only one growing mode (itself approximated by the top
mode of our amended Garfinkle solution). With this conjecture, we predict a
Ricci-scaling exponent of and a mass-scaling exponent of
, compatible with our numerical experiments.Comment: 27 page
Social Validity Assessment in Social Competence Interventions for Preschool Children: A Review
Social competence intervention studies published from 1970 to 2008 for preschoolers were reviewed for reports of social validity assessment. Analysis of 90 studies indicated that nearly 27% (n=24) of studies reported at least one measure of social validity assessment for: the goals (n=7), procedures (n=8), or effects (n=19). The methods used for these assessments were described including information about the participants, time of assessment and results. Trends in the rate of social validity assessment, methodological concerns and recommendations for further social validity assessments are discussed
Asymptotic quasinormal modes of a coupled scalar field in the Gibbons-Maeda dilaton spacetime
Adopting the monodromy technique devised by Motl and Neitzke, we investigate
analytically the asymptotic quasinormal frequencies of a coupled scalar field
in the Gibbons-Maeda dilaton spacetime. We find that it is described by , which depends on the structure
parameters of the background spacetime and on the coupling between the scalar
and gravitational fields. As the parameters and tend to zero,
the real parts of the asymptotic quasinormal frequencies becomes ,
which is consistent with Hod's conjecture. When , the formula
becomes that of the Reissner-Nordstr\"{o}m spacetime.Comment: 6 pages, 1 figur
