Diffuse sclerosing variant of thyroid carcinoma presenting as Hashimoto thyroiditis: a case report [Difuzno sklerozirajući oblik papilarnog karcinoma štitnjače nalik Hashimoto tireoiditisu: prikaz slučaja]
The aim of report is to present a case of a rare diffuse sclerosing variant of a papillary thyroid carcinoma. A 15-year old girl referred for ultrasound examination because of painless thyroid swelling lasting 10 days before. An ultrasound of the neck showed diffusely changed thyroid parenchyma, without nodes, looking as lymphocytic thyroiditis Hashimoto at first, but with snow-storm appearance, predominantly in the right lobe. Positive thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPO-AT) also suggested Hashimoto thyroiditis. Repeated US-FNAB (fine needle-aspiration biopsy) of the right lobe revealed diffuse sclerosing variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma and patient underwent total thyreoidectomy. Patohistologic finding confirmed diffuse sclerosing variant of a papillary thyroid carcinoma in the both thyroid lobes and several metastatic lymph nodes. Two months later patient recived radioablative therapy with 3700 MBq (100 mCi) of 1-131 followed by levothyroxine replacement. At the moment, patient is without evidence of local or distant metastases and next regular control is scheduled in 6 months. In conclusion, a diffuse sclerosing variant is rare form of papillary thyroid carcinoma that echographically looks similar to Hashimoto thyroiditis and sometimes could be easily overlooked
On the Classical Stability of Orientifold Cosmologies
We analyze the classical stability of string cosmologies driven by the
dynamics of orientifold planes. These models are related to time-dependent
orbifolds, and resolve the orbifold singularities which are otherwise
problematic by introducing orientifold planes. In particular, we show that the
instability discussed by Horowitz and Polchinski for pure orbifold models is
resolved by the presence of the orientifolds. Moreover, we discuss the issue of
stability of the cosmological Cauchy horizon, and we show that it is stable to
small perturbations due to in-falling matter.Comment: 40 pages, 13 figures. Reference and conclusion added. Published

Feynman problem in the noncommutative case
In the context of the Feynman's derivation of electrodynamics, we show that
noncommutativity allows other particle dynamics than the standard formalism of
electrodynamics.Comment: latex, 7 pages, no figure
Ghost Condensate Busting
Applying the Thomas-Fermi approximation to renormalizable field theories, we
construct ghost condensation models that are free of the instabilities
associated with violations of the null-energy condition.Comment: 9 pages, minor corrections, a reference added, the discussion on
consistency of the Thomas-Fermi approximation expanded, to appear in JCA
Bouncing Braneworlds Go Crunch!
Recently, interesting braneworld cosmologies in the Randall-Sundrum scenario
have been constructed using a bulk spacetime which corresponds to a charged AdS
black hole. In particular, these solutions appear to `bounce', making a smooth
transition from a contracting to an expanding phase. By considering the
spacetime geometry more carefully, we demonstrate that generically in these
solutions the brane will encounter a singularity in the transition region.Comment: 17 pages, 4 figures, ref adde
Anomalous dispersion relations in the staggered flux state
We study the quasiparticle properties in the d-wave superconductivity,
antiferromagnetism, and the staggered flux state within a renormalized
mean-field theory based on the two-dimensional t-J model. In particular, we
focus on the anomalous quasiparticle dispersion relations around the antinodal
region of the Brillouin zone argued in Hashimoto et al., Nature Phys. 6, 414
(2010). We obtain the qualitatively consistent results with their observations
when we take account of the SF state. The present analysis shows that the SF
order can be a possible candidate of symmetry-breaking pseudogap states
coexisting with the dSC.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure
