Evolving Role and Nature of Workplace Leaders and Diversity: A Theoretical and Empirical Approach

This paper describes the development of the organisational gap model for hotel management. It descries a management measurement instrument that helps to assess the 3 organizational service gaps that are preconditions for delivering service quality (the positioning gap, specification gap and evaluation gap). The described theoretical model was constructed based upon the four organisational gaps of the Parasuraman et al. service quality model, then redefined and reassessed. Data were gathered on the sample of 500 questionnaires from the Slovenian hotel industry and analysed with exploratory factor analysis and structural equation modelling. Mathematical Model of the Electricity Prices on the Spot Market

Cijena se na tržištu električne energije neprestano mijenja. Njezina je buduća kretanja zbog karakteristika električne energije relativno teško predvidjeti. Zbog toga se primjenjuju sljedeća tri procesa: proces kretanja budućih cijena električne energije po geometrijskom Brownovom gibanju, proces kretanja prosječnih vrijednosti cijena električne energije i proces kretanja budućih cijena električne energije s povremenim vršnim vrijednostima. U radu su obrađena sva tri procesa, čime je obuhvaćena njihova definicija, formulacija, primjena te navođenje prednosti i nedostataka.The price on the electricity market is constantly changing. Owing to the characteristics of electricity the future movement of the price is relatively hard to predict. For this reason the following three processes are applied: the process of the future electricity price movement according to the geometric Brownian motion, the mean reversion process, and the price spikes process. Legal Character of the Permissions Which are Granted by BRSA According to Banking Law No:5411: A New Permission Type in Turkish Administrative Law System

Independent Regulatory Agencies (IRA) has been in fact established as a result of the state’s desire to undertake the role of a referee rather than being a market player in our country. Though IRAs’ initial establishment aim was as such, it has caused considerable discussions in the field of administrative law, which is still on progress. In this study, a new approach has been brought to the discussions triggered by IRAs. Till now, it is generally assumed in the doctrine that there are merely two forms of permissions in the administrative law, and certain criteria are developed to distinguish them. However, when these certain criteria assessed together with the inherent nature of the banking sector, it is understood that permissions granted by the Banking Regulation And Supervision Agency (BRSA) can not be classified according to a base mentioned criteria. Consequently, this study assumes that permissions granted by the BRSA are a new type of permission and this type of permission that emerged in the theory bears such an importance that may lead to the questioning of IRAs’ characteristics in near future.Banking, Public Service, Permission

Percepción del modelo de acreditación por alta calidad de programas universitarios en Colombia: reporte preliminar de investigación

El artículo aborda la percepción del modelo de acreditación por alta calidad de programas universitarios en Colombia por parte de dos grupos de actores relacionados. Para su desarrollo se asume a las universidades como organizaciones y se parte de que la acreditación es un fenómeno de cambio organizacional sujeto de ser analizado; se trabaja bajo el supuesto de que existe una percepción negativa del actual modelo de acreditación por alta calidad establecido en Colombia, debido a que este mide la calidad desde una metodología cuantitativa y descontextualizada. Para el desarrollo de la investigación se acudió a la metodología cualitativa por considerar que esta permite un diseño más flexible para el análisis e interpretación del tema de estudio y a los métodos fenomenológico y hermenéutico por su validez para ayudar en la objetividad y comprensión del fenómeno investigado.The article discusses the perception of the accreditation model for high quality in university programs in Colombia. For its development is assumed to universities as an organization is and part of that accreditation is a phenomenon of organizational change subject to be analyzed; also it is assumed that there is a negative perception of the current accreditation model implemented by high quality Colombia, because this measures the quality from a predominantly quantitative methodology, decontextualized, that does not give rise to analyze other considerations that could well represent central aspects in achieving high quality conditions. For the development of the research turned to the qualitative methodology as more appropriate for the analysis and interpretation of the subject of study and phenomenological and hermeneutical methods for validity to aid in objectivity and understanding of the phenomenon under investigation

An Investigation in Applying Image Retrieval Techniques to X-Ray Engineering Pictures

Using image retrieval techniques in analysing Non-destructive testing reults is a new challenge in both computing science and engineering applications. Objective of this research is to develop an image retrieval system to analyse X-ray images for welding industry. The content based image retrieval has been used in this investigation, particularly in feature vector paradigm and similarity as well as detailed analysis towards single defects. It is found that X-ray images can be digitally analysed qualitatively and quantitatively easily. It concludes that the use of existing CBIR techniques can provide a platform to quickly develop new image analysis tools

On-chip integrated nanowire device platform with controllable nanogap for manipulation, capturing, and electrical characterization of nanoparticles

Cataloged from PDF version of article.We propose and demonstrate nanowire (NW) device platforms on-chip integrated using electric-field-assisted self-assembly. This platform integrates from nanoprobes to microprobes, and conveniently allows for on-chip manipulation, capturing, and electrical characterization of nanoparticles (NPs). Synthesizing segmented (Au–Ag–Au) NWs and aligning them across predefined microelectrode arrays under ac electric field, we controllably form nanogaps between the self-aligned end (Au) segments by selectively removing the middle (Ag) segments. We precisely control and tune the size of this middle section for nanogap formation in the synthesis process. Using electric field across nanogaps between these nanoprobes, we capture NPs to electrically address and probe them at the nanoscale. This approach holds great promise for the construction of single NP devices with electrical nanoprobe contacts
