In the last years, customer churn prediction has been very high on the agenda of telecommunications service providers. Among customers predicted as churners, highly influential customers deserve special attention, since their churns can also trigger churns of their peers. The aim of this study is to find good predictors of churn influence in a mobile service network. To this end, a procedure for determining the weak ground truth on churn influence is presented and used to determine the churn influence of prepaid customers. The determined scores are used to identify good churn-influence predictors among 74 candidate features. The identified predictors are finally used to build a churn-influence-prediction model. The results show that considerably better churn prediction results can be achieved using the proposed model together with the classical churn-prediction-model than by using the classical churn-prediction model alone. Moreover, the successfully predicted churners by the combined approach also have a greater number of churn followers. A successful retention of the predicted churners could greatly affect churn reduction since it could also prevent the churns of these followers.Posljednjih godina, predviđanje odljeva korisnika jedna je on važnijih tema među pružateljima telekomunikacijskih usluga. Među odlazećim korisnicima, oni najutjecajniji zaslužuju posebnu pažnju, jer njihov odljev može okinuti i odljev sljedbenika.

The in depth archaeological research of High Medieval castle presented in this book is unique in Slovenia and among just few in this part of Central Europe. The book is based on analysis of the archaeological data gathered in more than a decade of archaeological excavations in 1980s and 1990s.In the introductory chapter written sources and interpretative models are presented. The analysis of pictorial representations follows. The focus of the research is on the archaeological sources, though. Above all the analysis of the small finds, stratigraphy and spatial analysis of the castle itself and the castle in the landscape should be mentioned. V začetnem delu so predstavljeni pisni viri in interpretativni modeli v zvezi z nastankom in pomenom gradu. Sledi prikaz maloštevilnih, a nikakor ne nepomembnih slikovnih virov. Glavnino študije predstavljajo arheološki viri, predvsem priročniško uporabna tipokronološka analiza artefaktov, stratigrafija najdišča in prostorska analiza gradu

Acute myocarditis in young adult following intestinal infection

Myocarditis describes a heterogeneous group of disorders characterized by myocardial inflammation in the absence of predominant acute or chronic ischemia. It has been reported that myocarditis occurs in ~12% of young adults, and may contribute to other myocardial diseases, such as dilated cardiomyopathy and arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy. A 31-year old male was admitted to ER with acute retrosternal pain that was severe enough to waken him at 5 am. He had shortness of breath after few steps and was feeling dizzy. He returned from 4-week Morocco trip 3 days prior to ER visit. During his trip he suffered from viral gastroenteritis. Physical examination was normal (BP 110/60 mmHg, heart rate 75 bpm, oxygen sat. 99%, afebrile). Family history was negative for heart disease, hypertension or diabetes. The results of the cardiac enzyme tests disclosed elevated S-troponin I Ultra level (6,107 ng/ml). There were nonspecific ST-T abnormalities in ECG. An echocardiogram showed that the patient’s heart functioned normally. He underwent coronary angiography, which showed normal epicardial coronary arteries. Myocardial infarction was excluded. He was transferred to the cardiology department for further diagnosis and treatment. Based on viral infection 2 weeks prior to admission, elevated CRP and normal coronarography patient was diagnosed with viral myocarditis. The patient was given ACE inhibitor and beta-blockers. The patient was discharged 2 weeks later. Despite considerable progress, it remains a daunting challenge for physicians to discriminate between acute myocarditis and myocardial infarction, particularly in the early phase

A Dangerous Pursuit of Safety: The Value of Freedom of Expression and the Folly of Trading It Away

Freedom of expression has always been weighed against other values. Like all freedoms, it brings with it a degree of risk that it will be misused to do ill. In the work ahead, I hope to offer a reminder of the value of free expression and a warning against the folly of over-restricting it. Those in favor of censoring and regulating expression too often feign to act as protectors of the much desired public or community safety. What censorship really produces, however, is at best a mere illusion of safety. Only an environment in which all ideas, no matter how unpleasant, can be debated, challenged, and questioned is one in which human liberty is respected and social problems can be diagnosed and addressed before they fester into action

A GPU-Based Parallel-Agent Optimization Approach for the Service Coverage Problem in UMTS Networks

    Get PDF
In the context of coverage planning and control, the power of the common pilot channel signal determines the coverage area of a network cell. It also impacts the network capacity and thus the quality of service. We consider the problem of minimizing the total amount of pilot power subject to a full coverage constraint. Our optimization approach, based on parallel autonomous agents, gives very good solutions within an acceptable amount of time. The parallel implementation takes full advantage of GPU hardware in order to achieve impressive speed-up. We report the results of our experiments for three UMTS networks of different sizes based on a real network currently deployed in Slovenia

V prvem zvezku predstavljamo grobišče, terenske dnevnike, katalog grobov in dnevnik meritev z izkopavanj leta 1953. &nbsp

ChatGPT v Bard v Bing v Claude 2 v Aria v human-expert. How good are AI chatbots at scientific writing? (ver. 23Q3)

Historically, proficient writing was deemed essential for human advancement, with creative expression viewed as one of the hallmarks of human achievement. However, recent advances in generative AI have marked an inflection point in this narrative, including for scientific writing. This article provides a comprehensive analysis of the capabilities and limitations of six AI chatbots in scholarly writing in the humanities and archaeology. The methodology was based on tagging AI generated content for quantitative accuracy and qualitative precision by human experts. Quantitative accuracy assessed the factual correctness, while qualitative precision gauged the scientific contribution. While the AI chatbots, especially ChatGPT-4, demonstrated proficiency in recombining existing knowledge, they failed in generating original scientific content. As a side note, our results also suggest that with ChatGPT-4 the size of the LLMs has plateaued. Furthermore, the paper underscores the intricate and recursive nature of human research. This process of transforming raw data into refined knowledge is computationally irreducible, which highlights the challenges AI chatbots face in emulating human originality in scientific writing. In conclusion, while large language models have revolutionised content generation, their ability to produce original scientific contributions in the humanities remains limited. We expect that this will change in the near future with the evolution of current LLM-based AI chatbots towards LLM-powered software.Comment: Non-peer reviewed preprint.
