Reconsideration of the role of government in China in the country’s period as an economy in transition
China adopts various systems that were established under previous regimes because China’s economy is in transition. The socialist market economy in China involves path dependency and, as it also faces a new historical turning point to a following step of its Reform and Opening Up policies, strong state leadership will be needed again. This article calls for reconsideration of both “the role of government (the state)” and “the relationship between the state and state owned enterprises” in China as a “transition economy”. I review three kinds of studies on “the role of government (the state)”: the development economics approach, the institutional approach, and, finally, the economics of a system and the adjustment approach (the regulation school). Specifically, I insist that the framework based on the regulation school, which focuses on the adjustment of the state, including both institutional and market adjustment, is useful. Finally, I emphasize that we must not forget that China is an economy in transition within Asia

日本におけるAtorella vanhoeffeni(刺胞動物門,鉢虫綱,カンムリクラゲ目)の広範囲な地理的分布
Medusae of a rare, small scyphomedusa, Atorella vanhoeffeni Bigelow, 1909 (Cnidaria, Scyphozoa, Coronatae), were collected and/or photographed at three sites in Japan: Notojima, Ishikawa Prefecture, in the Sea of Japan; Osezaki, Shizuoka Prefecture, on the Pacific coast; and Yonaguni Island, Okinawa Prefecture, in the East China Sea. In Japanese waters this species has been previously reported only from Kakeroma Island, Kagoshima Prefecture. The detailed morphology is described based on a medusa from Yonaguni Island
Anti-tumor effect of intravesical instillation of mitomycin C combined with cytosine arabinoside
The anti-tumor effect of twice a week instillation of 30 mg mitomycin C combined with 200 mg cytosine arabinoside dissolved in 30 ml saline was studied in 37 bladder tumor patients. Endoscopic or histological disappearance of the tumor was observed in 19 cases, average instillation being 16.4 times. Small (less than 1 cm in diameter), low grade, low stage and villous-surfaced tumors were more sensitive to this therapy. Further more, in the cases showing a complete response, frequency of the intravesical tumor recurrence significantly decreased compared with the cases showing no response. The clinical results of this therapy are compared mainly with those of TUR performed at our hospital, and the usefulness and clinical limitation of this kind of management in the treatment of bladder tumors are discussed
