キーワード:名詞修飾「の」の過剰使用 中国語母語話者 1音節形容詞 2音節形容詞 In this paper, we investigated the overuse of Japanese -no (の) when it is combined with i-adjectives by Chirtese adults and young people who are learning Japanese as a second language. The results show that there is a significant difference in misuse rate beween the Japanese adjectives corresponding to the one-syllable Chinese adjectives that do not take 的 and the Japanese adjectives corresponding to the two-syllable Chinese adjectives that do take 的. That is, it was found that the misuse rate of -no of the latter is clearly higher than that of the latter. Consequently, it can be concluded that the overuse of -no is affected by the Chinese 的. Additionally, it was found that the misuse rate among younger Chinese is lower that that of adults. Furthermore, fewer misuses were found among those young Chinese who started learning Japanese early. Accordingly, it was suggested that younger learners acquire a second language more quickly, and that firmly established mother tongue may affect the second-language acquisition. Finally, since our research was cbnducted on Chinese spouses in international marriage and their children, there occurred wide differences among the subjects depending learning environments, wills to learn, mother-tongue capacities, and so on. Due to the encounter translation we used in the test, the subjects may have been dffected by their mental conditions at the time of testing.

In this paper, an investigation has been carried out mainly on learners of school children whose mother tongues are Chinese. The purpose is to examine to what extent they have been influenced by their mother tongues whi1e studying Japanese as a second language, in terms of the examples of the excessive use and omissive use of the noun modifier ”の/no/” in Japanese. The excessive use of ”の” can be often found in the conversations of Chinese spedkers, which accord with the results of the investigation of adult beginners (Sakota 1999). However, it has been observed that among the school children we investigated, the younger ones have hardly made the mistake of the excessive use of ”の”. Thbrefore, it is probable that for learners of second language, the more firmly their mother tongue has been aquired, the more it may interfere with the acquisition of their second language. On the other hand, according to our investigation, Chinese speakers have often been seen to drop ”の” due to the interperence from the structure of Chinese, their mother tongue. Since the confrontation interpretation task has been used as a research method in our study, the investigation results might be slightly affected by the Chinese fluency of the individual examinees\u27 and their psychologica1 conditions at the moment of investigation. My future plan is that the excessive use and omissive use of ”の” in the Japanese learning as a second language for the learners of school dhildren should be further researched from different aspects other than the present one, so that the influence of mother tongue in the second language acquisition can be made clear.
