Studies on Gonococcal and Non-gonococcal Urethritis Report IV : Clinical Observation of Non-gonococcal Urethritis

During 5 years from 1952 to 1956 I had had clinic a l observations on the 412 cases of male N.G.U., that consulted urological clinic of Kyoto University. In 1952 the cases of N.G.U. was less in number tha n that of gonorrhea, but after 1953 the former has exceeded the latter in number and in 1955 the cases of N.G.U. amounted to 79.5 % of the total urethritis in 1956 to 71.9 %. The incubation of N.G.U. was 2-120 days, a nd 6-10 days were larger in number. The incubation of N.G.U. was longer and more indefinite than that of gono r rhea. The cases of N.G.U. which had the previous history of gonorrhea amoun t ed to 45.6 % , those which had undoubtedly had postgonorrheal urethritis amounted to 18.9 %. In the cases of N.G.U. the patients had phimosis or hypospadia was large r in number than the usual. This suggested to me that the patients who had phimosis or hypospadia was susceptible to be attacked with N.G.U. Many patients had been already treated before they consulted our clinic. Penicillin was in use more widely than any other medicines, the use of Penicillin came to its peak in 1953 but since then it was on the decrease, on the contrary the use of other antibiotics except Penicillin grew larger every year
