Information technology innovation and common interest in well-being life have expedited the progess of medical informatics. On the other hand, the concern about information leakage has grown serious as well. The medical information is the most sensitive information and must be protected extremely strong ; however, it is of a public character to promote welfare and common partly. For stakeholders to cut costs, improve services, and become more responsive to their users, it is very important to design system considering the user’s standpoint. If individuals are concerned about information privacy infringement, it would be the biggest obstacle to today’s healthcare project. This study’s goal is the information security management model development in healthcare domain, which is suitable to the u-healthcare environment. It it especially focused on the HL7 Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) Role Engineering Process for medical information standardization.ope

A Study on the Effects of the R&D Activities and Patent on the Corporate Performance of Medical Device Firms in Korea

Companies conduct R&D for continuous development and enhancement of corporate value, and obtain patents as an intangible asset resulting from this process. This study screened 103 medical device firms whose R&D information, patent information, and management performance information were all published to determine how R&D activities and patents affect corporate operational performance. The number of patents, R&D costs, company type and Inno-Biz of the company were set as independent variables, and the companies' sales, intangible assets, operating profit ratios, net profit margins, corporate ratings and profit-related financial ratios were used as dependent variables. The results confirmed that R&D expenditure had negative (-) effects on most indicators, including sales volume, operating profit ratio, and net profit ratio, while it had positive (+) [ED highlight - these are unnecessary if negative and positive are also written out.] effects only on intangible assets. Additionally, domestic patents were found to have negative (-) effects on sales, cash flow ratings, and dropped capital return, and positive (+) effects on net profit growth. Moreover, the business performance variables affected by the company characteristics were sales volume and cash flow ratings. The medical device industry is dominated by small and medium-sized businesses Although research and development activities and patents have been shown to have a negative impact on corporate management in the short term, they are expected to have a positive long-term impact when reflecting the characteristics of the medical device industry that must undergo clinical trials and authorization procedures after R&D.ope

    Get PDF
The purpose of the present study is to develop a CRM system for patients with diabetes mellitus. The subjects were outpatients who visited a university hospital from March, 1997 thru February, 2003. The distributions of outpatients, types of disease, revenues, exemption of designated doctor's fee, and no-show rate were obtained for each department by utilizing the OCS database. Quantitative and Qualitative data were collected from the diabetes patients chosen based on the distribution. The goals of applying the CRM are not to provide diabetes patients with general medical services, but to provide individually-tailored medical services by utilizing the information obtained from the departments of moment of truth(MOT) effectively and integrating the management of work process and human resources. For an effective application of the CRM, it needs to be performed to support the strategic objectives and incorporate management strategies that are appropriate for internal and external environments. That modeling for diabetes patients includes campaign activities, customer management process, and the functions of predicting and diagnosing the patients and managing the medical services of MOT departments and referral system.ope

Prevalence of Diabetes and Impaired fasting glucose according to Food frequency Similarity in Korea

    Get PDF
In order to estimate risk of diabetes by analyzing dietary patterns, we examined prevalence of diabetes and impaired fasting glucose among Korean adults who are similar in food frequency to diabetes and impaired fasting glucose. The mean of food frequency of diabetes and impaired fasting glucose was calculated for analyzing the prevalence using the food frequency data from 2007, 2008 and 2009 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(KNHANES). Also the most frequent food was estimated for each group by using the mean difference of food frequency. As the results shows that the similar food frequency groups have significant prevalence rate, we expect that this study will contribute to the relations between dietary intakes and prevalence of diabetes.ope

OBJECTIVE: The development of information communication technology (ICT) and the demand for managing the healthy lives of individuals are accelerating the informatization of the health and medical field. Considering this environment and the needs of the individual, this paper has designed and developed a web and mobile storage device-based personal health record (PHR) system that individuals can manage by themselves anywhere, anytime, whether on-line or off-line. Based on the experience of implementing the system, its development method, results, and relevant technical issues are described. SYSTEM DESIGN AND DESCRIPTION: This system is implemented to manage PHR, including vital signs and ingested/consumed calories for a lifetime by connecting a PHR-integrated web server to each hospital's information system, and the PHR programs installed in the individual's PC or USB flash memory drive. To achieve this, an interface module, web server system, and PHR viewer program for individuals are developed. RESULTS: When it is off-line, the PHR program is operated to inquire the data saved in the DB, and the self-measured information can be inputted. When it is on-line, it calls the web service function to inquire the medical information, including hospital visit history, prescription history, diagnosis result, image inspection result and medical treatment result. CONCLUSION: This system connects home and mobile healthcare to hospitals but minimizes information leakage because the data is not accumulated. By loading a plug & play, PHR viewer to an easy-to-carry mobile storage device, the systems supports a sustainable health managementope
