A Study on Ceramic Artworks Using Various Colors of Mixed Porcelain Clay

학위논문(석사) -- 서울대학교대학원 : 미술대학 디자인학부 공예전공, 2024. 2. 한정용, 허보윤.본 논문은 백자혼합토의 다양한 발색 효과를 활용하여 차분하고 고요한 자연의 모습을 표현한 작품 제작 연구이다. 자연은 수많은 형태로 우리 곁에 존재한다. 연구자는 차분하고 명상적이면서 신비롭게 정돈된 자연의 모습에 주목하였으며, 흙 자체가 가진 무광택의 따뜻한 느낌을 살리기 위해 표면에 유약을 사용하지 않고 흙의 배합을 통한 발색 연구에 집중하고자 하였다. 도자기에 사용되는 점토는 채굴된 흙마다 성분이 매우 다양하다. 넓은 의미에서 본다면 도자 작업에 사용되는 모든 소지는 어떤 방식으로든 혼합된 혼합토로 볼 수 있다. 그러나 본 연구에서는 혼합토란 기존의 수급되는 점토나 재료를 혼합하여 사용하는 것을 의미하며 그 중에서도 점토와 점토의 혼합을 중심으로 하되 거기에 산화철과 안료를 첨가하는 혼합까지 본 연구 범위로 하였다. 연구방법은 혼합토를 활용한 현대 도예가의 사례를 통해 다양한 발색의 가능성에 대해 조사하고, 잔잔한 색감의 작품 제작을 위한 과정으로 현재 시중에서 판매하는 백자점토, 유색점토, 산화철, 안료를 첨가하는 실험을 진행하였다. 실험에 사용한 점토는 고운 입자, 발색의 차이, 지속적 수급의 세 가지 기준으로 선택하였다. 이러한 기준으로 선택된 다섯 가지 유색점토와 한 가지 백자점토를 정량 배합하여 1,280℃에서 환원과 산화소성을 하는 실험을 하였으 며, 거기에 산화철과 안료를 첨가하는 실험을 이어서 진행하였다. 그 실험 결과를 기반으로 연구자의 표현 의도에 적합한 부드럽고 정제된 자연의 느낌을 담은 백자혼합토를 선택하여 작품 제작에 활용하였 다. 색감이 매력적이고 표면에 자잘한 알갱이 질감을 가지는 백자혼합토 로 물레성형 기법을 통해 다양한 형태의 기물을 만들어 표면 느낌을 효과적으로 표현할 수 있었다. 본 연구는 백자점토와 유색점토를 혼합함으 로써 서로 다른 특성을 가진 점토를 보완하고 잔잔한 표면 효과를 내는 백자혼합토의 가능성을 보았다는 것에 연구의 의미가 있다. 주요어: 자연, 발색, 백자혼합토, 백자점토, 유색점토 학 번 : 2017-28023This paper is a study on ceramic artworks that express the calm and serene appearance of nature by utilizing the various coloring effects of mixed porcelain clay. Nature exists by our side in numerous forms. The researcher focused on the calm, meditative, and mysteriously organized appearance of nature, and tried to focus on color development through mixing the soil without using glaze on the surface to preserve the matte, warm feeling of the soil itself. The composition of clay used in pottery varies greatly depending on the soil from which it is mined. In a broad sense, all materials used in ceramic work can be viewed as mixed clay blended in some way. However, in this study, mixed clay refers to the use of a mixture of existing supplied clays or materials. Among them, the focus was on mixing clay with different clay, but the scope of this study included mixing with iron oxide and pigment added. The research method was to investigate the possibility of various color development through examples of modern potters using mixed clay, and to experiment with adding porcelain clay, colored clay, iron oxide, and pigments currently sold on the market as a process to produce works with calm colors. The clay used in the experiment was selected based on three criteria: fine particles, difference in color, and sustainable supply and demand. Five types of colored clay and one type of porcelain clay were selected based on these criteria. They were mixed in fixed quantities and subjected to reduction and oxidation firing experiments at 1,280℃, followed by experiments in which iron oxide and pigments were added. Based on the experimental results, the researcher selected and used mixed porcelain clay with a soft and refined natural feeling suitable for the intended expression to produce the work. I was able to effectively express the feeling of surface by making objects of various shapes through wheel throwing techniques using mixed porcelain clay, which has an attractive color and a fine granular texture on the surface.
