    Microscopy and Biomimetics: the NanoSuit? Method and Image Retrieval Platform

    This review aims to clarify a suitable method towards achieving next-generation sustainability. As represented by the term “Anthropocene”, the Earth, including humans, is entering a critical era, therefore science has a great responsibility to solve it. Biomimetics, the emulation of the models, systems, and elements of nature, especially biological science, is a powerful tool to approach sustainability problems. Microscopy has made great progress with the technology of observing biological and artificial materials and its techniques have been continuously improved, most recently through the NanoSuit? method. As one of the most important tools across many facets of research and development, microscopy has produced a large amount of accumulated digital data. However, it is difficult to extract useful data for making things as biomimetic ideas despite a large amount of biological data. Here, we would like to find a way to organically connect the indispensable microscopic data with the new biomimetics to solve complex human problems.journal articl

    <原著>山梨県のレベル3新生児集中治療部における先天異常を有する患者の医療費

    目的:第一に未熟性を表す在胎週数で層別化してNICU において先天異常を有する患者が有しない患者より多くの医療費を必要とするか,第二に遺伝子・染色体異常が単独でNICU における医療費を増加させるかを評価する。方法:4年間に山梨県内のすべてのLevel 3 NICU に入院した患者を対象に,先天異常を有する群と有しない群の患者背景,重症度,NICU 入院中の医療費の比較を在胎週数により層別化して行った。各週数区分において,NICU 入院中の医療費を目的変数,罹患臓器および遺伝子・染色体異常を説明変数として重回帰分析を行った。結果:在胎32週以降においては先天異常を有する群でNICU入院中の医療費が有意に高額だった。一方,在胎22週以降32 週未満においては両群間で有意差を認めなかった。重回帰分析において,特定の臓器の疾患を有することは医療費の増加に寄与していた。一方,遺伝子・染色体異常は医療費を有意に増加させなかった。結論:NICU において先天異常を有することは全体として医療費を押し上げる要因になるが,在胎32週未満においては増加の要因にならず,また,すべての週数区分において遺伝子・染色体異常は単独では医療費の増加の要因にならない。journal articl

    Real-Time Blind Separation of Acoustic Signals Using SIMO-Model-Based Independent Component Analysis

    A new real-time two-stage blind source separation (BSS) method for convoltive mixtures of speech is proposed, in which a single-input multiple-output (SIMO)-model-based independent component analysis (lCA) and a new SIMO-model-based binary masking are combined. SIMO-model-based lCA can separate the mixed signals, not into monaural source signals but into SIMO-model-based signals from independent sources in their original form at the microphones. Thus, the separated signals of SIMO-model-based ICA can maintain the spatial qualities of each sound source. Owing to this attractive property, novel SIMO-model-based binary masking can be applied to efficiently remove the residual interference components after SIMO-model-based ICA. In addition, the performance deterioration due to the latency problem in ICA can be mitigated by introducing real-time binary masking. We develop a pocket-size real-time DSP module implementing the new BSS method, and report the experimental evaluation of the proposed method's superiority to the conventional BSS methods, regarding moving-sound separation.conference pape

    Hydraulic characteristics of unsteady flows were investigated experimentally when flood waves were passing through compound open channels. Some noticeable features of unsteady flow structure in compound channels were revealed which were significantly different from those in single rectangular channels. The unsteadiness of velocity appears very large in main channels and the peak of velocity appears very earlier than in rectangular channels. Lateral shear stress increases in a rising stage at an interface region of main channel and flood plain. The bed shear stress exceeds the value of steady peak flow in the rising stage.application/pdfjournal articl

() Western blot analysis of the non-induced and induced DLD1Tr21/WTSIP1 cell line. E-cadherin and αE-catenin were downregulated at the protein level in the SIP1-expressing cells. β-catenin protein levels were unaltered in the SIP1-induced compared to non-induced cells.
