<Case Report> Seven Years' Experience with Cardiac Valve Surgery in Consecutive Patients over Sixty Years of Age
From May 1984 through March 1991, 19 consecutive patients 60 years of age and older (mean age 65.9; range 60-78 years) underwent valvular surgery. These comprised 6 isolated aortic valve replacements (Group 1), 9 isolated mitral valve replacements and one mitral commissurotomy (Group 2), and 3 patients with combined aortic and mitral procedures (Group 3) which included replacement of at least the aortic valve. Carpentier-Edwards bioprosteses were used in most cases. Three patients had undergone previous cardiac operations. Five Patients underwent semi-emergency procedures for acute valve perforation due to infectious endocarditis and prosthetic valve failures. Operative mortality was 11% (2/19 patients). Late death occured in two patients, but the cause of death was not related to prosthetic valves in either. At follow-up, the 15 surviving patients were in New York Heart Association functional class I or II.journal articl
An Initial Code Acquisition Scheme for Indoor Packet DS/SS Systems with Macro/Micro Antenna Diversity
In this paper, we study macro/micro diversity techniques for code acquisition of a direct-sequence spread-spectrum signal in an indoor packet communication system. In the system discussed, the base station has several radio ports each with a cluster of antennas, and the terminal also has multiple antennas. The performance in the uplink of this system is analyzed under Longnormal shadowing and flat Rayleigh fading. The numerical results show great performance improvements by proposed diversity techniques. In addition, it is clarified that the mean acquisition time, which is often used as the measure of performance, is not suitable for packet radio systems as it underestimates the necessary preamble length for initial code acquisition.journal articl
Synthesis of 4-Mono-and 2, 4-Disubstituted Derivatives of Pyrido-[3, 2-d]pyrimidine, Pyrido[2, 3-d]pyrimidine and Quinazoline
application/pdfSome 4-and 2, 4-substituted derivatives of pyrido[3, 2-d]pyrimidine, and pyrido[2, 3-d]pyrimidine were synthesized from the corresponding 4(3H)-ones by the usual method comprised of chlorodehydroxylation and subsequent amination and by "one-pot" amination. The latter method was more convenient and effcient than the fromer one. Similarly, 4- and 2, 4-substituted quinazolines were prepared. All of the cytokinin analogs were inactive in lettuce seed germination and Amaranthus betacyanin tests. departmental bulletin pape
Study on Optimization of Stereoscopic Viewing Space for 3D Display
The lenticular lens type autostereoscopic display is paid to attention as next generation's display device. However, its narrow stereoscopic viewing space brings eyestrain or inconvenience to the viewers. In this paper, to solve the above problem, we propose a method for the optimum distribution of the pixels corresponding to the position of the viewer for lenticular lens type autostereoscopic display. This method focused on angle of light refractive by lenticular lens. We estimate the the position of viewer's eyes and angle between viewer and the center of display, and calculate the angle formed by the eye position and the display. Finally, the best position to the pixcel for the viewer is calculated from this angle. We made an experimental lenticular lens type 3D-display to demonstrate that the proposed method sufficiently improve the performance.departmental bulletin pape
