A Diachronic Study of the Complementation of the Verb rob

In Old English, verbs of deprivation like bereafian (>PE bereave) occurred in the double object construction when they had two complements. The two objects that appeared in the construction were the accusative and the genitive or the accusative and the dative. Besides the double object construction, the prepositional constructions, i.e., the of-construction and the from-construction, arose in the Middle English period due to the leveling of inflections. The of-phrase and the from-phrase originated from the genitive case and the dative case respectively. In Middle English, the verb rob, which was borrowed from French, occurred with the of-construction and it also appeared in the double object construction. However, in the Early Modern English period, the verb almost completely faded away from the double object construction because the constructional meaning that the construction in question bears is `X CAUSESY to RECEIVE Z'(cf. Goldberg (1995:49)) and the meaning the verb rob denotes could no longer go with the constructional meaning that the double object construction carries. Relation with the ochanoma and the media

言葉は時代とともにその意味・用法を変化させたり、新たな意味・用法を獲得し意味領域や用法を拡大させたりする。本稿は、「お茶の間」を例にその変遷をたどる。「お茶の間」は、元来日本家屋の一室を指す言葉であったが、抽象的な意味を派生させ、同時に新たな用法をも獲得した。この用法は4つのカテゴリーに大別できるが、本稿ではその中の一つ、メディアと関わる「お茶の間○○」に焦点を当てた。メディアと関わる「お茶の間○○」は、他の3つのカテゴリーとは異なり、「お茶の間○○」の媒介となるメディアが時代とともに変化するという大きな特徴を有する。当初は、日常生活において主流とされるメディアが新たなメディアに取って代わるとき、「お茶の間○○」の指す媒体も変化し、新たな「お茶の間○○」が数多く産出されると予想されたが、実際はそうではなかった。本稿を通して、メディアと関わる「お茶の間○○」は、(1)時代の流れによって「お茶の間○○」が意味するメディアが変わる、(2)家に居ながらにしてできることが当たり前になるとその語彙自体がすたれていく傾向にある、(3)家族そろって囲めるメディアに使うことが多く、個で楽しむパーソナルメディアにおいては産出されにくい、ということが確認された。研究ノート(Note)application/pdfdepartmental bulletin pape

Error analysis in composition by Chinese learners of Japanese

Repitative Motor Functions of the So-called healthy aged

The object of this study was to find the motor function of the so-called healthy aged. The subjects of this study were 87 people, 31 male and　56　female, who lived in Hata-town Nagano-prefecture, between the age of　63　and　88　years (Mean age of 72.8 ± 5.1 years). In this study, the tested motor function was that No.1: Tapping With index finger in 16 items, No.2:Pronation and Supination movement of the forearms in　4 items, No.3: Ankle dorsiflexion and planterflexion reciprocalal repititive movement in 4 items. Each movement was tested for 10 seconds. Results: In the test No.1, the number of the tapping was a little over　40 with right index finger and a little under 40 with left index finger on an average. Statistical significance by age was not found, but good result was gotten in the subjects of over 80 years of age in 8 items among 16, : In the test No.2, Mean of this movement was about　25　times. Poor pattern was found in 16%, on the other hand, perfect pattern was seen in only 9% all subjects. In the test No.3, remarkable point was that 43%　of all subjects could not do this movement pattern at all. Conclusion: In the test No.1, the difference of motor function by age was not clear. But in the test No.2 and No.3, the degenerative phenomena of the motor pattern by age was especially noticeable.Article紀要 10(2): 33-43(1985)departmental bulletin pape
