    Aerial photography experiment by fixed wing and vertical take-off / landing type drone FUTVTOL-1

    An aerial photography experiment by using newly developed drone FUTVTOL-1 was performed around Awara campus at both day and night time zones on March 8, 2019. FUTVTOL-1 is a fixed wing type drone with the vertical take-off and landing function. Therefore, FUTVTOL-1 can fly at high speed for long time moreover does not require any other devices for take-off and landing. The many images obtained by onboarded low cost Raspberry Pi Camera and flight record clearly show FUTVTOL-1 is useful for wide area observation with high ground resolution. We carried out correlation analysis between the image taken by FUTVTOL-1 and NDVI image by Sentinel-2, a pair of large satellites operated by ESA. The result shows the effective and continuous measurement less affected by weather can be possible by the combination FUTVTOL-1 data and satellite data. In addition, night time images show the possibility FUTVTOL-1 can be used for monitor outdoor artificial lighting.departmental bulletin pape

    Prognostic Value of Combined Tumor Marker and Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT) Score in Colorectal Cancer Patients

    [Background] Nutritional status is strongly associated with prognosis in cancer patients. Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT) score is a nutritional marker based on serum albumin, cholesterol, and total lymphocyte count. We investigated the prognostic significance of a combination of the tumor marker carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and CONUT score (T-CONUT) in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. [Methods] A total of 522 patients who underwent surgery for CRC at our hospital were retrospectively enrolled in this study. [Results] Patients were divided into groups based on the results of receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis as follows: CONUThigh (CONUT score ? 3) and CONUTlow (CONUT score < 3), and CEAlow (< 5 ng/mL) and CEAhigh (? 5 ng/mL). The 5-year overall survival (OS) rates of patients in the CONUTlow and CONUThigh groups were 76.0% and 53.9%, respectively (P < 0.0001), and in the CEAlow and CEAhigh groups were 80.7% and 47.6%, respectively (P < 0.0001). Regarding T-CONUT, the 5-year OS rates of patients with CEAlow/CONUTlow, CEAlow/CONUThigh, CEAhigh/CONUTlow, and CEAhigh/CONUThigh were 84.7%, 69%, 55.3%, and 36.1%, respectively (P < 0.0001). Multivariate analysis identified T-CONUT score as an independent prognostic indicator in CRC patients. [Conclusion] T-CONUT may be a useful tool for predicting prognosis in CRC patients.journal articl

    Prediction of rice growth on Miyazaki Prefecture using Japanese Standard Climate Scenario provided by the JMA

    This study evaluates the impact of global warming on rice cultivation in Miyazaki prefecture, focusing on the grain damage caused by high temperature during ripening of rice. Evaluation was made by predicting air temperature after ear emergence for two typical rice cultivars (i.e. Koshihikari for early-season cultivation and Hinohikari for normal-season cultivation) in Miyazaki. The dates of ear emergence were estimated by employing a dynamic prediction model of rice development, after calibrating the parameters using actual observation data. Air temperature conditions of 50 and 100 years later were predicted by adopting the Japanese Standard Climate Scenario of Japan Meteorological Agency. The result indicated that ear emergences earlier than present, for about 6 days in early-season cultivation and about 3 days in normal-season cultivation. Also, the air-temperature of ripening periods becomes higher than present, particularly in normal-season cultivation. It was suggested that shifting the transplanting date to later or eariler was an effective for avoiding grain damage caused by high temperature during ripening of rice.本研究は, 水稲栽培について登熟期の高温障害に関して, 地球温暖化条件下での宮崎県の水稲栽培に与える影響を検討した. 宮崎県の特徴である早期水稲と普通期水稲の2品種について検討することとし, 気象庁による気候統一シナリオによる約50年後, 約100年後の温暖化予測気温を用い, 実測値によりパラメータ同定を行った水稲の発育動態予測モデルを用いて出穂期を推定し, 出穂後の平均気温について検討した. その結果, 早期栽培では約6日, 普通期栽培では約3日出穂日が早まり, 出穂後の気温が高くなること, とくに普通期水稲の登熟期が高くなることが予想された. そこで登熟期の高温回避策として移植日の変更についてその効果を検討したところ, 移植日の早期化および晩期化が有効であることが確認された.departmental bulletin pape
