Elucidation of Reaction Mechanism of PVA-KI Gel Dosimeter ( I )
Radiation-based cancer treatment has less burden on the human body, and it is expected that demand will further increase in Japan where there are many elderly people. At present, there is a demand for a method to visualize radiation easily in radiation cancer treatment. In this study, K I (potassium iodide) was added to a partially saponified PVA (polyvinyl alcohol, hereinafter referred to as PVA) aqueous solution to develop a gelled PVA-KI gel dosimeter. PVA-KI gels are low cost, easy to make, and reusable, such as being able to re-transparent those that have been colored red by radiation when heated, which are not found in other gel dosimeters. The purpose of this study is to elucidate the reaction mechanism in which PVA-KI gel, which turns red by X-ray irradiation, becomes transparent by heating.departmental bulletin pape
Analysis of maneuverability based on human motion characteristics and brain activity in human-robot cooperative task
The purpose of this study is to evaluate maneuverability of positioning tasks with a cooperative robot based on the perspective of motion characteristics, self-rated maneuverability and activities of higher brain functions. The cooperative robots ordinarily were controlled following the impedance model composed of the mass, damping (viscosity) and stiffness coefficient. The correlation effect between the mass and the damping has been evaluated in the previous studies; however, the relation between the damping and the virtual friction, which is applied to reduce vibrations in the operations, has not been investigated. In addition, there is a few of studies which evaluates higher brain functions during the cooperative tasks, even though many studies about the brain machine interface (BMI) have been conducted in recent years. Therefore, in this study, the maneuverability under various conditions of the damping and the friction is evaluated based on the motion characteristics, the higher brain functions measured with fNIRS (functional near infra-red spectroscopy) and the self-rated maneuverability with semantic differential method.application/pdfdepartmental bulletin pape
Recurrent Erythema Nodosum in a Child with a SHOC2 Gene Mutation
We report the case of a 6-year-old male who developed recurrent erythema nodosum (EN) at the age of 3 years. The patient exhibited hypertelorism, low-set ears, micrognathia, moderate intellectual disability, thin long fingers, loose anagen hair, and prominent palmoplantar wrinkles. A heterozygous single nucleotide variant in the SHOC2 gene (c.4 A > G, p.S2G) was identified. Patients with a SHOC2 mutation exhibit a unique combination of ectodermal abnormalities including darkly pigmented skin and loose anagen hair. This report is the first to describe EN in a patient with SHOC2 mutation, and to examine the patient’s hair using scanning electron microscopy. We hypothesize that the RAS/MAPK pathway is associated with the pathogenesis of cutaneous lesions in patients with SHOC2 mutations via autoinflammation and disturbance of epithelial stem cells.journal articl
Skelemin in Integrin αIIbβ3 Mediated Cell Spreading
Skelemin, a myosin-associated protein in skeletal muscle,
has been
demonstrated to interact with integrin αIIbβ3 in nonmuscle cells during initial stages of cell spreading.
The significance of this interaction and the role of skelemin in integrin
signaling and cytoskeletal reorganization were investigated in this
study. We established a series of Chinese hamster ovary cell lines
expressing wild-type or mutant αIIbβ3 receptors in which skelemin binding residues at the membrane proximal
region of integrin tails were mutated to alanine. Most cells displayed
unimpaired adhesive capacity and spreading on immobilized fibrinogen
at the early stages of cell spreading. In addition, they formed normal
focal adhesions and stress fibers with no indication of impaired cell
spreading. R995A/R997A/L1000A, H722A, and K716A exhibited the greatest
cell spreading, which was associated with enhanced p-Src activation
but was independent of FAK activation. Transfection of the cells with
GFP-skelemin, containing only the C2 integrin binding domain, caused
wild-type cells to round up, but had no effect on R995A/R997A/L1000A,
H722A, and K716A cell spreading. Furthermore, the protrusions of the
leading edge of K716A cells showed strong colocalization of talin
with αIIbβ3 which was associated
with a loss in skelemin binding. Thus, we propose that during early
stages of cell spreading, skelemin exerts contractile force on cell
spreading and modulates the attachment of cytoskeletal proteins and

Sedimentary response to the intracontinental orogenic process: insight from the anatomy of a small Mesozoic basin in western Yanshan, northern North China
<p>The intra-continental orogeny and tectonic evolution of the Mesozoic Yanshan fold-thrust belt (YFTB) in the northern North China Craton (NCC) have been strongly debated. Here, we focus on the Shangyi basin, located in the centre of the YFTB. An integrated analysis of sedimentary facies, palaeocurrents, clast compositions, and detrital zircon dating of sediments was adopted to determine the palaeogeography, provenance, basin evolution, and intra-continental orogenic process. The Shangyi basin comprises the well-exposed Early–early Middle Jurassic Xiahuayuan Formation and the Longmen Formation, and the Late Jurassic–Early Cretaceous Tuchengzi Formation. Based on the 18 measured sections, five facies associations – including alluvial fan, fluvial, delta, lacustrine, and eolian facies – have been identified and described in detail. The onset of the Shangyi basin was filled with fluvial, deltaic, and lacustrine deposits controlled by the normal fault bounding the northern basin, corresponding to the pre-orogeny. In the Middle Jurassic, the cobble–boulder conglomerates of alluvial fan, as molasse deposits, were compatible with the syn-orogeny of the Yanshan movement, which played a critical role in northern North China and even East Asia. After the depositional break in the Middle–Late Jurassic, the Shangyi basin, controlled by the normal fault present in the north of the basin, re-subsided and quickly expanded southward with thick sedimentation, which is correlative with the post-orogeny. Combined with A-type granites, metamorphic core complexes, mafic dikes, and rift basins of the Late Jurassic–early Early Cretaceous present in the northern NCC and Mongolia, significant extension was widespread in the northern NCC and even in northeast Asia. Moreover, vertical changes of provenance indicate that the Taihang Mountain and the Inner Mongolia palaeo-uplift (IMPU) present at the west and north of the basin, respectively, experienced uplift twice in the Middle–Late Jurassic and Early Cretaceous, resulting in a regional depositional break.</p
