Advanced magnetic separation of paramagnetic materials using fluid control

    Get PDF
The volume of contaminated soil induced by the Fukushima accident can be reduced using selection tube with high efficiency. We focused on the target substance in the soil having paramagnetism. We proposed the novel separation method, which is applying a magnetic field to selection tube, aiming for more precise and easier separation than High Gradient Magnetic Separation(HGMS). We showed the effectiveness of Open Gradient Magnetic Separation (OGMS) under the selection tube with using colored glass imitated target substance. The experimental results were found to shows good agreements with the calculated results.departmental bulletin pape

Recurrent Erythema Nodosum in a Child with a SHOC2 Gene Mutation

    Get PDF
We report the case of a 6-year-old male who developed recurrent erythema nodosum (EN) at the age of 3 years. The patient exhibited hypertelorism, low-set ears, micrognathia, moderate intellectual disability, thin long fingers, loose anagen hair, and prominent palmoplantar wrinkles. A heterozygous single nucleotide variant in the SHOC2 gene (c.4 A > G, p.S2G) was identified. Patients with a SHOC2 mutation exhibit a unique combination of ectodermal abnormalities including darkly pigmented skin and loose anagen hair. This report is the first to describe EN in a patient with SHOC2 mutation, and to examine the patient’s hair using scanning electron microscopy. We hypothesize that the RAS/MAPK pathway is associated with the pathogenesis of cutaneous lesions in patients with SHOC2 mutations via autoinflammation and disturbance of epithelial stem cells.journal articl

Enablers and barriers to the development of interprofessional collaboration between physicians and osteopaths: A mixed methods study

    No full text
<p>Osteopathy is a complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) that is growing in popularity. Increasing numbers of parents are seeking pediatric osteopathic care in addition to conventional medical care. Information about the development of interprofessional collaboration (IPC) between these practitioners is scarce. This explanatory sequential mixed methods study aimed to explore enablers of and barriers to the development of IPC between physicians and osteopaths involved with pediatric patients in primary care in Quebec, Canada. Postal questionnaires about collaborative practices were first sent to all physicians and osteopaths working with pediatric patients in Quebec. Semi-structured individual interviews were then conducted with a subset of 10 physicians and 11 osteopaths. A total of 274 physicians (14%) and 297 osteopaths (42%) completed the survey. Forty-five percent (n = 122) of physicians reported that they referred at least one pediatric patient per month to an osteopath. Thirty-six percent (n = 96) of physicians and 41% (n = 122) of osteopaths indicated having professional relationships. Personal consultation, professional relationship, perceived utility of osteopathy and community practice were positively associated with osteopathic referrals. According to participants, the strongest enabler of the development of collaboration was positive clinical results reported by parents. Additional enablers included the osteopath having previous health professionals training such as physiotherapist, pediatric experience, mutual respect for professional boundaries and complementarity, perceived safety of osteopathy, and parents’ requests for collaboration. Barriers were the absence of a common language, the organizational and legal context, uncertainty regarding one another’s roles, lack of interprofessional interactions, and limited scientific evidence. These results related to enablers of and barriers to collaboration between physicians and osteopaths and the illustration of their dynamic interaction could be used to guide efforts to promote productive collaboration and safe patient-oriented care.</p

Acoustic observations of plankton and turbulence in a tidally mixed fjord

    No full text
No abstracts are to be cited without prior reference to the author.Theoretical, laboratory, and field work have shown that turbulence can affect the feeding success and growth of zooplankton, both positively and negatively. However, field observations of the small-scale interactions between zooplankton and turbulence, and particularly evidence of organisms actively avoiding or seeking out regions of high shear, have been limited by the inability of traditional methods (net and airfoil shear sensors) to measure turbulence and zooplankton distributions simultaneously and with the necessary spatial resolution. Acoustics is commonly used to perform fine-scale surveys of zooplankton abundance, but recent studies have shown that stratified turbulence can also be a significant source of sound scatter

Acceptability of Pediatric Telerehabilitation Interventions Provided by Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists—A Scoping Review

    No full text
The purpose of this scoping review was to explore the available literature and identify gaps regarding the acceptability of telerehabilitation interventions provided by pediatric physical therapists and occupational therapists. We followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA-ScR) framework to guide this scoping review. We systematically searched eight scholarly databases (CINAHL, Medline, SPORTDiscus, AMED, APA PsychInfo, SCOPUS, PEDro, OTseeker), five gray literature databases (MedlinePlus, Gray Literature Report, OpenGrey, National Institute for Health, ProQuest Dissertation & Theses Global [PQDT]), conducted a manual search of selected references and contacted international experts. We included articles published between 2000 and 2021. Acceptability was defined in accordance with the Theoretical Framework of Acceptability of Sekhon et al. From a total of 1567 unique references, 123 were deemed eligible for full-text review. Eighteen studies published between 2011 and 2021 were included in this review. Even though every aspect of the Theoretical Framework of Acceptability was assessed from a variety of angles, a complete appreciation of the concept is still lacking for pediatric telerehabilitation. This review highlights important gaps in our knowledge regarding the acceptability of pediatric telerehabilitation interventions and supports the need for further research focusing on the subject.</p
