Histologic, immunohistochemical, and in situ hybridization study of myxoid stroma in feline oral squamous cell carcinoma
Oral squamous cell carcinoma (oSCC) is a highly invasive malignant neoplasm in cats. Recently, tumor stroma, known as tumor microenvironments, have been considered to play an essential role in tumor progression. However, their role in feline squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) remains unclear. This study aimed to reveal the cancer microenvironment of feline oSCC and evaluate the pathological mechanisms of progression. We used 19 samples from 17 cats with oSCC, which were examined using light microscopy, immunohistochemistry, and in situ hybridization (RNAscope®). Feline oSCCs had two types of stroma, namely fibrotic and myxoid stromal reaction patterns, which were easily distinguished using hematoxylin-eosin staining. The myxoid stroma was rich in hyaluronic acid, which seems to be produced by neoplastic cells. Furthermore, the presence of myxoid stroma was correlated with histological parameters, including the appearance of cancer-associated fibroblasts and tumor budding. Periostin protein expression was also frequently observed in the stroma of feline oSCC and was significantly more common in the myxoid stromal reaction pattern group than in the fibrotic group. Positive signals for periostin mRNA were detected in stromal cancer-associated fibroblasts. This study indicates that the interaction between neoplastic cells and stromal reaction pattern components, such as hyaluronic acid and periostin, may be involved in tumor malignancy. Therefore, we propose that focus be placed not only on the tumor tissue but also on the characterization of the stroma for analyzing feline oSCC.journal articl
Temperature variation of nonradiative carrier recombination processes in high-quality CuGaSe_2 thin films grown by molecular beam epitaxy
The piezoelectric photoacoustic (PPA) measurements for Cu-rich CuGaSe_2 (CGS)/GaAs(001) epitaxial layer were carried out between liquid helium and room temperatures. The band gap energies of CGS (A, B, and C bands) were measured to be 1.73, 1.83, and 2.04 eV at liquid nitrogen temperature, respectively. The A band was clearly obtained from 5 to 300 K, and the temperature dependence of the peak energy was fitted with the modified Manoogian–Woolley equation. PPA signals for CGS/GaAs (001) epitaxial layers were obtained between liquid helium and room temperature. The following article appeared in Applied Physics Letters. 7/10/2000, Vol. 77 Issue 2 P.259 and may be found at http://dx.doi.org/10.1063/1.12694

This paper shows that producing values of new objects is not only just developing new things but also creating new cultures and desires, and it brings new demands. The innovation on economy might be established on the collective learning process through interactions by producers and consumers. The field of this research was a restaurant whose owner is the author of this article and a subject of investigation was the process of development and management of the restaurant. Data showed the interactions between “proposers; producers” and “selectors; consumers” were the collective learning process on which new culture had been creating. This research considered the restaurant as the learning community being constructed by not only a manager and employees but also customers, and described a process of changing thorough the interactions among this community. The process was verified that the community fluidly and improvisation-ally produced and advanced the new value and culture.departmental bulletin pape

Crystallization and preliminary X-ray diffraction analysis of YidC, a membrane-protein chaperone and insertase from Bacillus halodurans
YidC, a member of the YidC/Oxa1/Alb3 family, inserts proteins into the membrane and facilitates membrane-protein folding in bacteria. YidC plays key roles in both Sec-mediated integration and Sec-independent insertion of membrane proteins. Here, {\it Bacillus halodurans} YidC2, which has five transmembrane helices conserved among the other family members, was identified as a target protein for structure determination by a fluorescent size-exclusion chromatography analysis. The protein was overexpressed, purified and crystallized in the lipidic cubic phase. The crystals diffracted X-rays to 2.4{\AA} resolution and belonged to space group {\it P}2{\sb 1}, with unit-cell parameters {\it a} = 43.9, {\it b} = 60.6, {\it c} = 58.9{\AA}, {} = 100.3{}. The experimental phases were determined by the multiwavelength anomalous diffraction method using a mercury-derivatized crystal.journal articl
