The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors effecting walking state after the operation for femoral neck fracture in elderly people. We studied 84 subjects, who were over 60 years old and received the operation for femoral neck fracture in Niigata Prefectural Center Hospital. The results indicated that age, existence of spouses, ADL and social environments, causes of fracture, anxiety characters, have an influence on walking state after the operation in elderly people. Physical and emotional support to the patients from their family and community as well as their own effort, in such patients, are needed to promote postoperation walking state.departmental bulletin pape

A beacon in the night : government certification of SMEs towards banks

Policymakers around the world have created several schemes to support financially constrained SMEs. However, whether these mechanisms improve the access to external sources of finance or on the contrary crowd out private players remains a relevant question. In this paper, we study the effectiveness of a recent form of government support, called participative loan, in improving recipient SMEs\u2019 access to external financial debt. Relying on the literature about the certification effect, we develop hypotheses on the conditions under which the improvement is stronger. The empirical analysis is based on a sample of 488 Spanish SMEs that received participative loans from a Spanish government agency and a control group of 719 matched twins. We show that the former register a significantly higher external financial debt (+31.5%). The effect is stronger for smaller firms, or for those operating in high-technology sectors, which suffer more acutely from information asymmetries, and negligible for firms that already received a support from another government-supported institution. After ruling out alternative explanations, we interpret this result as a positive evidence of government certification of SMEs towards banks

    Parton distributions incorporating QED contributions

We perform a global parton analysis of deep inelastic and related hard-scattering data, including O( QED) corrections to the parton evolution. Although the quality of the fit is essentially unchanged, there are two important physical consequences. First, the different DGLAP evolution of u and d type quarks introduces isospin violation, i.e. up 6= dn, which is found to be unambiguously in the direction to reduce the NuTeV sin2 W anomaly. A second consequence is the appearance of photon parton distributions (x,Q2) of the proton and the neutron. In principle these can be measured at HERA via the deep inelastic scattering processes eN → e X; our predictions are in agreement with the present data

Escaping NK cells and recruiting neutrophils: How Morgana/NF-κB signaling promotes metastasis

Cancer cells escape immune surveillance and induce immune cell aberrant activation to support tumour growth and progression. We recently reported that Morgana/NF-κB (nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells) signaling in breast cancer cells is responsible for NK (Natural Killer) cell inactivation and neutrophil recruitment in the primary tumour and in the lung pre-metastatic niche
