Analysis of the Lambda p Final State Interaction in the Reaction p+p->K^+(Lambda p)

The missing mass spectrum measured in high resolution studies of the reaction pp -> K^+X is analyzed with respect to the strong final state interaction near the Lambda p production threshold. The observed spectrum can be described by factorizing the reaction amplitude in terms of a production amplitude and a final state scattering amplitude. Parametrizing the Lambda p final state interaction in terms of the inverse Jost function allows a direct extraction of the low-energy phase-equivalent potential parameters. Constraints on the singlet and triplet scattering lengths and effective ranges are deduced in a simultaneous fit of the Lambda p invariant mass spectrum and the total cross section data of the free Lambda p scattering using the effective range approximation.Comment: 9 pages,6 figures, 2 table

We investigative hospitals, welfare facilities for the aged and nursing universities, colleges and nursing technical schools. The number of the amount of the distributed questionnaires is 4,261, and the number of them answered effectively is 2,692. The summary of the result of this investigation are as follows, ①The age what they think as elder is ・older than 70 years old 50.3% ・older than 75years old 18.5% ・older than 80 years old 13.0%. ②The image (by SD method) for elder people the 70to 80% of the answer is ・having various experiences ・declining the health of body. ③The image for the sexuality for oneself is"sexuality for love","sexuality for relationship of husband and wife","sexuality for intimacy". On the other hand, the image for the sexuality of elderly people is "sexuality for relationship of husband and wife", "sexuality for intimacy" /'sexuality for relationship of partner". ④The number of the people having chances to talk about sexuality at clinical scene is 54.7%. ⑤There are some differences for the image of sexuality between the ages.departmental bulletin pape

Healthy lifestyle education in the CLIL classroom

    Get PDF
application/pdfScientific studies have shown that poor health can lead to lower academic achievement and poor class attendance in school. Teachers report improvements in attendance, attention, behavior, and levels of concentration in schools where healthy eating has become accepted practice. Research also shows that healthy lifestyle habits during adolescence can prevent many of the diseases and disabilities in adulthood and later. Health economists affirm that people with a better education are more likely to choose a healthier lifestyle. Considering this evidence, it is strongly suggested that education on how to have a healthy lifestyle be a mandatory subject for all students – and the younger, the better. However, given the time and curriculum constraints of most schools, this is not an easy goal to achieve. Accordingly, this paper shows how Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine (OUAVM) has incorporated healthy lifestyle education as a content and language integrated learning (CLIL) course in the English program. CLIL, which has other definitions, is a teaching method that involves teaching students about a given subject in a foreign language. It has become the umbrella term for simultaneously learning a content-based subject, such as lifestyle health, through the medium of a foreign language, while concurrently improving one’s ability in the foreign language by using it to study the given subject. This paper shows how this integration can be done practically by incorporating eight natural laws of health from the NEWSTART Lifestyle program into a health course also categorized as an English course at OUAVM. departmental bulletin pape

    Collaborative learning in tertiary education

    Get PDF
application/pdfAmong the nontraditional teaching environments and methods available to improving tertiary education, collaborative learning (CL) seems to have much potential. This paper looks at the research on CL and how it might be able to address education issues such as changing student demographics and the rapid rise in information. In addition, a description and the many significant advantages of employing CL - including a deeper understanding of content, increased overall achievement in grades, improved self-esteem, and higher student motivation - are delineated along with some key elements of CL to help persuade that the method be utilized to its fullest potential. It is recommended that higher education programs that do not currently incorporate CL take consideration.departmental bulletin pape

English Education and the Bible: Case study of CLIL-designed advanced English course

    Get PDF
application/pdfThe first step in presenting a course that utilizes the Bible in English education, especially in a Japanese academic institution, would be to clarify the necessity and importance of such a reference text. This course thus shows the Bible’s significance as literature and the preeminent role it has played and continues to play in the development of Western culture. Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) is the vehicle which allows integration of a given subject, such as the Bible in this case, into language study. It has become the umbrella term describing both learning another subject through the medium of a foreign language and, at the same time, learning a foreign language by studying a contentbased subject in the given language. The advantages of such an approach (also known as “contentbased instruction” and “bilingual education”) include learning content as language skills improve, getting language learning integrated into the broader curriculum, and providing increased motivation among students who see language in their areas of interest and real-life situations. Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine (OUAVM) has been offering such courses for several years and has valuable experience to share with teachers considering the implementation of CLIL in their own courses. One course in particular, English V (Advanced English Topics), is looked at in detail in this paper to demonstrate the advantages of the CLIL approach to education and how it can be utilized to study the Bible. Relevance of the Bible in literature, music, art, science, history, government and education are explored and discussed.departmental bulletin pape

University/NGO cooperation on small-scale education projects:improving financial support and livelihood for orphanage in Myanmar

    Get PDF
application/pdfBethel Children’s Home (BCH) is an orphanage, established in 2002 in Myanmar, for orphans, semiorphansfrom underprivileged families, and abandoned children. At the time of initiating this project for BCH, there were 22 children ranging from 5 to 18 years of age living there under the care of house parents. Originally supported by a US aid organization, BCH found it increasingly difficult to operate financially due to the accelerating Myanmar economy driving up the Myanmar currency and commodity prices. Thus, a 5-year project was proposed by the author, in January 2013, to help BCH become financially stable and self-sufficient. The ongoing project entails utilizing the land around BCH for implementing economic activities such as raising milk cows and rubber/fruit plantation. Dairy farming was proposed as a viable option due to the sufficiency of land and the cows providing both fresh milk and a source of income. It was also considered that caring for the animals would be good training and animal therapy for the children. Not least, the animal manure could be used as organic fertilizer for rubber/fruit tree cultivation. An economically and environmentally sustainable combination of longer-term rubber trees with fruit trees was determined and seedlings started. Two years into the project, a small income flow has already been generated. In order to ensure the long-term success of the project, BCH personnel are working closely together with committee members and other related persons, including the children themselves, in planning and implementing ongoing project strategies and measures.departmental bulletin pape
