Chiral meta-interface: Polarity reversal of ellipticity through double layers consisting of transparent chiral and absorptive achiral media

We have studied circular dichroism (CD) in the visible region of composite and double-layer films consisting of a transparent chiral molecule, glucose, and an absorptive achiral dye, rhodamine. Composite and double-layer films show an absorption-induced CD response caused by chirality of glucose at 540 nm, where the rhodamine exhibits absorption. More importantly, in double layers, the polarity of the ellipticity in CD signals is found to be reversed when the incident direction is reversed. We discuss the origin of the polarity reversal, which is very similar to the magneto-optical effect, at the chiral meta-interface without magnetic field.journal articl

Resonance Raman study of polyynes encapsulated in single-wall carbon nanotubes

This work presents a resonance Raman study of polyyne molecules (linear carbon chains) encapsulated inside single-wall carbon nanotubes using many different laser lines. A strong enhancement of the polyyne Raman features is observed around 2.1 eV, and this result is ascribed to dark electronic transitions of the linear carbon chains that can be observed when they are trapped inside a carbon nanotube. The huge observed energy splitting between bright and dark excited states is ascribed to strong Coulomb effects in this strictly onedimensional system.journal articl

部分自由化後の電力小売市場の競争状況に関する実証分析(<特集>ネットワーク型産業における経済規制と産業組織)

わが国の電力小売市場は2000年に部分自由化されたが, 一般電気事業者が圧倒的な市場シェアを占めたままで, 競争が有効に働いていないとの懸念がある. 本研究では, 部分自由化後の電力小売価格のデータを用いて, 一般電気事業者の市場支配力とマークアップの関係を分析し, 競争状況に関する考察を行った. その結果, 自家発の存在を考慮した電力市場における一般電気事業者のシェアが大きいほどマークアップが大きくなっており, シェアの大きさと市場支配力の行使には理論と整合的な関係があることを明らかにした. 一方, 電力価格が高ければ, 一般電気事業者のシェアは小さくなるという関係が成立し, 一定の競争が働いていることも確認した. また, マークアップは, 自家発を設置する産業用大口需要家の業種別構成によって差が生じており, 特に, いくつかの業種の需要家から比較的強い競争圧力が働いて, マークアップを抑制することなどを明らかにした.This paper empirically examines the market power of the incumbent electric utilities in the Japanese electricity retail market after partial liberalization in 2000. Including supply from self-generation facilities of large industrial customers in calculating the market share of the incumbent utility, we estimate the impact of market share on price after controlling the changes in marginal cost. Our results suggest that, as the market share increases, the markup will be greater, which is in line with the theoretical prediction. On the other hand, a higher price leads to a lower market share of the incumbent, suggesting that competition is successful when the price is relatively high. In addition, our results indicate that the markup depends also on the composition of customers by industries.departmental bulletin pape
