This study aimed to annually examine anthropometric characteristics and physical activity (PA) among children transitioning from fourth grade (9–10 years of age) to eighth grade (13–14 years of age) in Japan. The participants’ (n = 63) age, grade, sex, weight, height, and weight status were recorded at baseline. Accelerometry assessments were performed annually following established protocols. Time spent on activities requiring ≥ 3 metabolic equivalents (METs), 1.6–2.9 METs, and ≤ 1.5 METs were defined as moderate-to-vigorous intensity PA (MVPA), light PA (LPA), and sedentary behavior (SB), respectively. Two linear mixed models were used to examine whether MVPA, LPA, and SB min/day changed over time. Fifty-five participants provided complete data. A significant, nonlinear, longitudinal decline in MVPA, an increase in SB, and a linear decline in LPA were observed. Changes in MVPA and SB were accelerated in seventh grade (12–13 years of age). Male sex and maintenance of normal weight status were associated with higher MVPA levels. Changes in LPA and SB were not associated with sex or weight status. During the transition period from primary to secondary school, MVPA and SB showed nonlinear accelerations. Sex and normal weight were associated with more time spent performing MVPA.journal articl

Augmented reality (AR) is a technique to let we compose the real and the virtual world. As for the AR technology, various application is enabled. Particularly, AR is expected for the application to business very much. Moreover, AR applications can complement a standard curriculum. Text, graphics, video and audio can be superimposed into the real time environment of students. Therefore the AR technology can be also expected for the application to the education. In this paper, we focus on the educational application, and we try to visualize the design by the AR technology. The algorithm is implemented by using the Visual C++ 2008 and C on a personal computer.departmental bulletin pape

This study investigates the mechanism of noise generation from the modular type joint in highway bridges and quantifies the effectiveness of countermeasures. A series of experiments was conducted with a full-scale model of the modular type joint, where the noise and vibration characteristics of the joint with and without countermeasures were investigated under a vehicle passage. The dynamic characteristics of the joint was also studied by the impulsive hummer testing as well as by the eigenvalue analysis with the FEM model of joint.textapplication/pdfdepartmental bulletin pape

Search for matter-dependent atmospheric neutrino oscillations in Super-Kamiokande

We consider ν_μ→ν_τ oscillations in the context of the mass varying neutrino (MaVaN) model, where the neutrino mass can vary depending on the electron density along the flight path of the neutrino. Our analysis assumes a mechanism with dependence only upon the electron density, hence ordinary matter density, of the medium through which the neutrino travels. Fully-contained, partially-contained and upward-going muon atmospheric neutrino data from the Super-Kamiokande detector, taken from the entire SK-I period of 1489 live days, are compared to MaVaN model predictions. We find that, for the case of 2-flavor oscillations, and for the specific models tested, oscillation independent of electron density is favored over density dependence. Assuming maximal mixing, the best-fit case and the densityindependent case do not differ significantly.journal articl
