Measurements of exclusive B_s^0 decays at the Y(5S) resonance
Several exclusive decays are studied using a 1.86 fb-1 data sample
collected at the Y(5S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric
energy e^+ e^- collider. In the decay mode we find 10
candidates and measure the corresponding branching fraction. Combining
the B_s^0 -> D_s^{(*)-} \pi^+, B_s^0 -> D_s^{(*)-} \rho^+, B_s^0 -> J/\psi \phi
and B_s^0 -> J/\psi \eta decay modes, a significant signal is observed.
The ratio \sigma (e^+ e^- -> B_s^* \bar{B}_s^*) / \sigma (e^+ e^- -> B_s^{(*)}
\bar{B}_s^{(*)}) = (93^{+7}_{-9} \pm 1)% is obtained at the Y(5S) energy,
indicating that meson production proceeds predominantly through the
creation of pairs. The and meson masses are
measured to be M(B_s^0)=(5370 \pm 1 \pm 3)MeV/c^2 and M(B_s^*)=(5418 \pm 1 \pm
3)MeV/c^2. Upper limits on the B_s^0 -> \gamma \gamma, B_s^0 -> \phi \gamma,
B_s^0 -> K^+ K^- and B_s^0 -> D_s^{(*)+} D_s^{(*)-} branching fractions are
also reported.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures, published in Phys. Rev. D76, 012002 (2007

In-orbit timing calibration of the hard X-ray detector on board Suzaku
The hard X-ray detector (HXD) aboard the X-ray satellite Suzaku is designed to have a good timing capability with a 61 its time resolution. In addition to detailed descriptions of the HXD timing system, results of in-orbit timing calibration and the performance of the HXD are summarized. The relative accuracy of time measurements of the HXD event was confirmed to have an accuracy of 1.9 x 10(-9) s s(-1) per day, and the absolute timing was confirmed to be accurate to 360 mu s or better. The results were achieved mainly through observations of the Crab pulsar, including simultaneous ones with RXTE, INTEGRAL, and Swift.textapplication/pdfjournal articl
Measurements of exclusive B^{0}_{s} decays at the γ(5S) resonance
Several exclusive B^{O}_{s} decays are studied using a 1.86 fb^{-1} data sample collected at the Υ(5S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy e^+e^- collider. In the B^{O}_{s}→D^{-}\{s}π^+ decay mode we find 10 B^{O}_{s} candidates and measure the corresponding branching fraction. Combining the B^{O}_{s}→ D^(*)-_s π^+, B^{O}_{s} → D^(*)-_sρ^+, B^{O}_{s}→ J/Ψφ, and B^{O}_{s}→ J/Ψη decay modes, a significant B^{O}_{S}signal is observed. The ratio σ(e^+e^- → B^{*}_{s}\bar{b}^{*}_{s})/σ(e^+e^- → B^{(*)}_S\bar{B}^{(*)}_s)=(93^{+7}_{-9}±1)% is obtained at the Υ(5S) energy, indicating that B^{O}_{s} meson production proceeds predominantly through the creation of B^{*}_{s}\bar{B}^{*}_S pairs. The B^{O}_{s} and B^{*}_{s} meson masses are measured to be M(B^{O}_{s})=(5370±1±3) MeV/c^2 and M(B^{*}_{s})=(5418±1±3) MeV/c^2. Upper limits on the B^{O}_{s} →γγ, B^{O}_{s} → φγ, B^{O}_{s} → K^+K^-, and B^{O}_{s} → D^{(*)}+_{s}D^{(*)}_s- branching fractions are also reported.journal articl
Abnormal GABA neurotransmission in a Kcnq2 model of early-onset epilepsy
Objective: Mutations of the KCNQ2 gene, which encodes the Kv7.2 subunit of voltagegated M-type potassium channels, have been associated with epilepsy in the neonatal period. This developmental stage is unique in that the neurotransmitter gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA), which is inhibitory in adults, triggers excitatory action due to a reversed chloride gradient.
Methods: To examine whether KCNQ2-related neuronal hyperexcitability involves neonatally excitatory GABA, we examined 1-week-old knockin mice expressing the Kv7.2 variant p.Tyr284Cys (Y284C).
Results: Brain slice electrophysiology revealed elevated CA1 hippocampal GABAergic interneuron activity with respect to presynaptic firing and postsynaptic current frequency. Blockade with the GABAA receptor antagonist bicuculline decreased ictal-like bursting in brain slices with lowered divalent ion concentration, which is consistent with GABA mediating an excitatory function that contributes to the hyperexcitability observed in mutant animals.
Significance: We conclude that excitatory GABA contributes to the phenotype in these animals, which raises the question of whether this special type of neurotransmission has broader importance in neonatal epilepsy than is currently recognized
Direct borylation of terrylene and quaterrylene
The preparation of large rylenes often needs the use of solubilizing groups along the rylene backbone, and all the substituents of the terrylenes and quaterrylenes were introduced before creating the rylene skeleton. In this work, we successfully synthesized 2,5,10,13-tetrakis(4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-1,3,2-dioxaborolan-2-yl)terrylene (TB4) by using an iridium-catalyzed direct borylation of C?H bonds in terrylene in 56% yield. The product is soluble in common organic solvents and could be purified without column chromatography. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that the terrylene core is not disturbed by the substituents and is perfectly flat. The photophysical properties of TB4 are also unchanged by the substituents because the carbon atoms at 2,5,10,13-positions have less coefficients on its HOMO and LUMO, estimated by theoretical calculations. Finally, the same borylation reaction was applied for quaterrylene, resulting in the formation of soluble tetra-borylated quaterrylene despite a low yield. The post modification of rylenes enables us to prepare their borylated products as versatile units after creating the rylene skeletons.journal articl
