ON THE ISOVARIANCY OBSTRUCTION OF SOME INVOLUTIONS ON HOMOTOPY SPHERES : Dedicated to Professor Seiya Sasao on his sixtieth birthday

application/pdfThe present work treats certain orientation reversing involutions on $(4k+1)$ -dimensional homotopy spheres with $2k$-dimenstional fixed point sets. The author calculates the explicit obstruction for these involutions to be isovariantly homotopy equivalent to the linear involution on the standard sphere.departmental bulletin pape

Seismic Response Charactristics Of Stochastic Ground

In order to account for the stochastic nature of free-field earthquake ground motions in the time and space domain, the earthquake responses of a stochastic soil layer on rigid rock is analysed where the soil properties are stochastically varying in lateral directions. From the analysis, a closed form analytic expression of the frequency-wavenumber spectrum, which provides information concerning the correlational characteristics of earthquake motions, is established. It is found from the characteristics of the frequency-wavenumber spectrum established in this study that the free-field ground motion displacement is highly coherent in low frequency range while it tends to become incoherent in high frequency range

The gray boxes indicate critical enhancers, the basal promoter is represented by a black box adjacent to the CAT reporter gene, and the relative HMG/POU cassette is indicated with an asterisk. F9 EC cells were transfected with 12 µg of either Sox2 + US/DSE or FGF-4 + E plus 1 µg of the CMV-β-gal expression vector. Where indicated, 1, 2 or 3 µg of the Sox2 and/or the Oct-3/4 expression vector was co-transfected. Reporter activity was normalized to that of β-galactosidase and the activity of the reporter construct (with no overexpression) was set to 1. Overexpression values are shown relative to the given promoter/reporter construct. The data shown represents the mean and standard deviation of duplicate samples from representative experiments. Each experiment was repeated twice and similar results were obtained

The gray boxes indicate critical enhancers, the basal promoter is represented by a black box adjacent to the CAT reporter gene, and the relative HMG/POU cassette (or mutant) is indicated with an asterisk. In each promoter/reporter construct, the HMG/POU cassette was destroyed. Where indicated, the POU motif in the HMG/POU cassette was mutated. F9 EC cells were transfected with 12 µg of the indicated promoter/reporter gene construct plus 1 µg of the CMV-β-gal expression vector. Where indicated, 1 or 3 µg of the Sox2 expression vector was co-transfected.
