In-situ growth of superconducting NdFeAs(O,F) thin films by Molecular Beam Epitaxy
The recently discovered high temperature superconductor F-doped LaFeAsO and
related compounds represent a new class of superconductors with the highest
transition temperature (Tc) apart from the cuprates. The studies ongoing
worldwide are revealing that these Fe-based superconductors are forming a
unique class of materials that are interesting from the viewpoint of
applications. To exploit the high potential of the Fe-based superconductors for
device applications, it is indispensable to establish a process that enables
the growth of high quality thin films. Efforts of thin film preparation started
soon after the discovery of Fe-based superconductors, but none of the earlier
attempts had succeeded in an in-situ growth of a superconducting film of
LnFeAs(O,F) (Ln=lanthanide), which exhibits the highest Tc to date among the
Fe-based superconductors. Here, we report on the successful growth of
NdFeAs(O,F) thin films on GaAs substrates, which showed well-defined
superconducting transitions up to 48 K without the need of an ex-situ heat
treatment
In situ growth of superconducting NdFeAs(O,F) thin films by molecular beam epitaxy
Superconducting NdFeAs(O,F) thin films were grown on GaAs substrates by molecular beam epitaxy. Films grown with a sufficiently long growth time exhibited a clear superconducting transition with an onset temperature up to 48 K and zero resistance temperature up to 42 K without the need of an ex situ annealing process. Electron probe microanalysis and Hall coefficient measurements indicated that the superconducting films are doped with fluorine, and depth-profile analysis by Auger electron spectroscopy revealed the formation of a NdOF layer near the surface, which is probably connected with the fluorine doping.journal articl

触覚マウスによる図形情報の識別(論文<小特集>ヒューマンインタフェース)
To provide visually-impaired people access to graphical information, we previously developed a device called a "tactile mouse." It consists of a computer mouse and a small tactile display. Tactile information is fed back to the fingers according to the mouse's movements, giving the user the feeling of exploring tangible drawings. Because the tactile display is small, however, users tend to deviate from the tangible graphics when they move the mouse too much. To identify conditions for reducing this deviation, we conducted two experiments : one on line following and one on shape discrimination. We found that when the parameter called "hand-movement-to-pin ratio" was too low, the chances of deviation increased, and when it was too high, discrimination failures occurred more frequently. Consequently, intermediate conditions that led to less deviation and fewer discrimination failures were found to be adequate for the efficient use of the tactile mouse.journal articl
