    Noise effect on Grover algorithm

    The decoherence effect on Grover algorithm has been studied numerically through a noise modelled by a depolarizing channel. Two types of error are introduced characterizing the qubit time evolution and gate application, so the noise is directly related to the quantum network construction. The numerical simulation concludes an exponential damping law for the successive probability of the maxima as time increases. We have obtained an allowed-error law for the algorithm: the error threshold for the allowed noise behaves as Eth(N) ~ 1/N1.1 (N being the size of the data set). As the power of N is almost one, we consider the Grover algorithm as robust to a certain extent against decoherence. This law also provides an absolute threshold: if the free evolution error is greater than 0.043, Grover algorithm does not work for any number of qubits affected by the present error model. The improvement in the probability of success, in the case of two qubits has been illustrated by using a fault-tolerant encoding of the initial state by means of the [[7,1,3]] quantum code.Comment: Accepted to be published in Eur.     Fabrication and mechanical testing of a new sandwich structure with carbon fiber network core

    The aim is the fabrication and mechanical testing of sandwich structures including a new core material known as fiber network sandwich materials. As fabrication norms for such a material do not exist as such, so the primary goal is to reproduce successfully fiber network sandwich specimens. Enhanced vibration testing diagnoses the quality of the fabrication process. These sandwich materials possess low structural strength as proved by the static tests (compression, bending), but the vibration test results give high damping values, making the material suitable for vibro-acoustic applications where structural strength is of secondary importance e.g., internal panelling of a helicopter

    What the Catholic Church Has Learnt from Interreligious Dialogue

    It has been more than 40 years since the document Nostra Aetate was promulgated. This document encourages in the Catholic Church an open attitude toward non-Christian religions. Since then, the Church has engaged in interreligious dialogue in the spirit of the principles of Nostra Aetate. As a result, it has learnt much from dialogue and has undertaken pertinent reforms. At first, because of its far-reaching character, Nostra Aetate took the Church by surprise. Thus it was necessary that the validity of this document be evidenced on theological foundations; as a result, in fact, it has produced theological advances. Developments, related to Interreligious dialogue, on matters of ecclesiology, the Trinity, and especially pneumatology are found in the teaching of various Sovereign Pontiffs and in certain other Church documents. The validity of these developments has been supported through the practice of dialogue. The paper makes this clear by illustrating some aspects of the practice of dialogue after Vatican II. At the same time, the state of interreligious dialogue and some associated problems stand out in relief.     Disruption Management for Commercial Aviation

    Airlines are constantly facing operational disruptions such as reduced airport capacity because of bad weather or strikes, unexpected aircraft unavailability due to mechanical failures, and delayed or cancelled flights. In view of this, ROADEF organized a worldwide challenge to explore the problems encountered in real world airlines when disruptions happen and find approaches to tackle them. In this paper, a new continuous time aircraft routing model is developed which can minimize aircraft delay cost accurately and efficiently handle all types of disruptions encountered in ROADEF. Applying a new decomposition algorithm, near optimal solutions for aircraft routing can be obtained. A passenger re-accommodation model is solved subsequently using the results from the aircraft routing model as input. Competitive results are obtained applying the proposed approach to instances provided by ROADEF.departmental bulletin pape
