Probing dense and hot matter with low-mass dileptons and photons

Results on low-mass dileptons, covering the very broad energy range from the BEVALAC up to SPS are reviewed. The emphasis is on the open questions raised by the intriguing results obtained so far and the prospects for addressing them in the near future with the second generation of experiments, in particular HADES, NA60 and PHENIX.Comment: 6 pages, 8 figures, Proceedings of Hard Probes 2004 Conference, Ericeira, November 4-10, 2004. The purpose of this study is to clarify the actuality of information service on the application of the classification for the care needs, and the relationship between duration of stay in hospital of patients with cerebrovascular disease (CVD) and request to enter care insurance institutions, family form, key person in Niigata prefectural T hospital. The subjects are 45 patients who disabled with CVD. The half of the subjects discharged to other hospital. The other could not return to their home, and could not go into long-term care insurance institutions. From this fact, it is proven that the care insurance institutions which taken responsibility of disables are not sufficient. It was late in the time of the information service on the application of classification for the care needs to the patients from the medical people. And there was a difference for the helping of the medical people. The duration of stay in hospital was short, when the family form was the married couple and the key person was a spouse. But it was long, when there is a request to enter long-term care insurance institutions, and with that independence of activity of daily living was low.departmental bulletin pape

Nuclear Effects in Deep Inelastic Scattering of Charged-Current Neutrino off Nuclear

Nuclear effect in the neutrino-nucleus charged-Current inelastic scattering process is studied by analyzing the CCFR and NuTeV data. Structure functions F2(x,Q2)F_2(x,Q^2) and xF3(x,Q2)xF_3(x,Q^2) as well as differential cross sections are calculated by using CTEQ parton distribution functions and EKRS and HKN nuclear parton distribution functions, and compared with the CCFR and NuTeV data. It is found that the corrections of nuclear effect to the differential cross section for the charged-current anti-neutrino scattering on nucleus are negligible, the EMC effect exists in the neutrino structure function F2(x,Q2)F_2(x,Q^2) in the large xx region, the shadowing and anti-shadowing effect occurs in the distribution functions of valence quarks in the small and medium xx region, respectively. It is also found that shadowing effects on F2(x,Q2)F_2(x,Q^2) in the small xx region in the neutrino-nucleus and the charged-lepton-nucleus deep inelastic scattering processes are different. It is clear that the neutrino-nucleus deep inelastic scattering data should further be employed in restricting nuclear parton distributions.Comment: 24 pages, 5 figure

Effects of Temporary Blood Administration on Dysoxia and Survival in a Rat Uncontrolled Hemorrhagic Shock Model

Objective: To test whether temporary blood administration improves dysoxia and thereby prolong survival in an ongoing uncontrolled hemorrhagic shock model. Methods: Light anesthesia was induced with sevoflurane in 18 rats, and spontaneous breathing was maintained. Uncontrolled hemorrhagic shock (UHS) was induced by withdrawal of blood at 2.5 mL / 100 g over a 15-min period, followed by 75 % tail amputation. At 10 min after tail cutting, rats were randomized into three groups (n = 6 each) and received the following resuscitation regimen for 20 min: Group 1 (9 mL shed blood) vs. Group 2 (a mixture of 4.5 mL NS solution and 4.5 mL shed blood) vs. Group 3 (9 mL NS solution). The rats were then monitored for oxygen metabolisms and survival. Results: The regimen of Group 1 vs. Group 3 prompted a surge in blood pressure and improved oxygen metabolic indices. Four rats in Group 1, three rats in Group 2, and none in Group 3 survived up to 180 min (p = 0.052; Group 1 vs. Group 3). Additional blood loss from the tail stump did not differ significantly among the groups. Conclusions: In a model of UHS in rats, a temporary resuscitation regimen of whole blood administration compared with NS solution improved tissue dysoxia and possibly survival.departmental bulletin pape
