Localization of sound sources in binaural reproduction of first and third order ambisonics

The use of higher-order ambisonics in spatial sound recordings makes it possible to increase the accuracy of recording information about the direction from which the sound comes to the listener. However, with binaural ambisonic sound reproduction, the listener's ability to locate the sound source accurately may be limited. This paper presents a comparison of the listener's ability to locate a sound source during binaural listening to recordings made with first and third order ambisonic microphones. The analysis was carried out for two types of signal: pink noise and ringing sound. The analysis of localization errors depending on the ambisonics order, azimuth and elevation angles as well as the type of signal is presented. The obtained data indicate that in binaural reproduction of the ambisonic sound the localization errors in the azimuth plane were smaller for the third order ambisonics, compared to the first order. In the elevation plane both for first and third order the errors were significant

Ecos de la literatura inglesa en Los secretos de San Gervasio de Carlos Pujol

Este ensayo analiza la transficción holmesiana Los secretos de San Gervasio (1994), del prolífico intelectual Carlos Pujol (19362012), desde una perspectiva comparatista atendiendo a las posibles influencias provenientes del ámbito de la literatura en lengua inglesa. Se justifica la huella de escritores victorianos y modernos con probabilidades de haber aportado recursos dignos de imitación, tales como Henry James, P. G. Wodehouse, G. K. Chesterton o Evelyn Waugh, sin obviar la herencia de Arthur Conan Doyle y los autores precedentes que prepararon el camino a quien es acaso el personaje más célebre del género detectivesco, Sherlock Holmes. Se debate la posible continuidad o subversión de esta transficción en consonancia con las dos tendencias predominantes de la narrativa holmesiana española contemporánea, y se analizan los elementos postmodernos de intertextualidad y metaficción dentro de la poética atribuible a Carlos Pujol.This article analyses the Holmesian transfiction Los Secretos de San Gervasio (1994), by the prolific intellectual Carlos Pujol (19362012), from a comparative perspective, taking into account possible influences from the field of English literature. It discusses the footprint of Victorian and modern writers likely to have been imitated, such as Henry James, P. G. Wodehouse, G. K. Chesterton or Evelyn Waugh, not forgetting Arthur Conan Doyle himself and previous authors who paved the way for perhaps the most famous character in the detective genre: Sherlock Holmes. The article debates the possible continuity or subversion of this transfiction, in consonance with the two predominant tendencies of contemporary Spanish Holmesian narrative, as well as the postmodern elements of intertextuality and metafiction within the poetics attributable to Carlos Pujol
