Anchorless cell surface proteins function as laminin-binding adhesins in Lactobacillus rhamnosus FSMM22

application/pdfAnchorless cell surface proteins (CSPs) were extracted with 1 M lithium chloride solution from Lactobacillus rhamnosus FSMM22. Loss of the anchorless CSPs resulted in a 2-fold decrease in FSMM22 cells bound to a constitutive extracellular matrix glycoprotein, laminin, in vitro. DNA-binding protein HU, glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, lactate dehydrogenase and 30S ribosomal protein S19 (RpsS) were identified by mass spectrometry in the extract as laminin-binding adhesins. Among the four proteins, RpsS was immunohistochemically confirmed to exist on the cell surface. Our findings strongly suggest that anchorless CSPs can enhance bacterial adhesion to the host.journal articl

Mathematics and Chemistry Interdisciplinary Joint Research and the Fukui Project VI

publisherThis is the sixth part of the series of articles that records and further develops essentials of the Mathematics and Chemistry Interdisciplinary Symposium 2013 Tsuyama, whose main themes were symmetry, periodicity, and repetition. The symposium was held on April 5th and 6th in Tsuyama city, Okayama, Japan, in conjunction with the Fukui Project and was devoted to the memory of the late Professor Kenichi Fukui (1981 Nobel Prize) who initiated the project. The present series also provides challenging cross-disciplinary problems which are directly related to the Fukui conjecture and to recent carbon nanotube research. Most of these problems are formulated using mathematical language of unique factorization domain (UFD) and related notions, which are not well known among chemists despite the importance of these notions in elucidating additivity and high-speed asymptotic phenomena in molecules having many repeating identical moieties.departmental bulletin pape

application/pdfHaving obseved and examined about the colors of women's clothes in the streets, about 200 cases a month and continued this way of observation for three years, I found that it is possible to classify the colors into some types by the law of color harmony. I have got an interesting result by applying the statistic law of color data on various thing: the patterns of textile, those of handkerchiefs made in foreign countries, the patterns of Nishijin and those of dresses fashion shows, etc. The report about beloved color in society has never been made in Japan before. There are several types for the harmony of two colors, and several types for three or four colors, too. According to these types, we can judge whether a certain combination of colors is good or not. In the field of Home Economics, color is frequently chosen as an important subject; in Cloting, Food and Nutrition, Housing, Child Care and Home Management. I found that the efficiency of teaching have been increased by using the law of color harmony. I belive that will be good when these are applied in the field of Home Economics, in teaching dyeing, dress-making, design for accessories, and in the field of textile industries. In this research, the way of physical twelve equall partition "Taguti's color System" is adopted. Observation about 200 casses a month was the maximum limit for a skilful observant and the probability of analytical figures is about 95%. this observation has been made on these condition.departmental bulletin pape

An Optimum Design of Error Diffusion Filters Using the Blue Noise in All Graylevels

    Get PDF
The error diffusion filter in this paper is optimized with respect to the ideal blue noise pattern corresponding to a single tone level. The filter coefficients are optimized by the minimization of the squared error norm between the Fourier power spectra of the resulting halftone and the blue noise pattern. During the process of optimization, the binary pattern power spectrum matching algorithm is applied with the aid of a new blue noise model. The number of the optimum filters is equal to that of different tones. The visual fidelity of the bilevel halftones generated by the error diffusion filters is valuated in terms of a weighted signal-to-noise ratio, Fourier power spectra, and others. Experimental results have demonstrated the proposed filter set generates satisfactory bilevel halftones of grayscale images.journal articl
