    Associations between large cavum septum pellucidum and functional psychosis disorders, especially schizophrenia, have been reported. We report a case of late-onset catatonia associated with enlarged CSP and cavum vergae. A 66-year-old woman was presented with altered mental status and stereotypic movement. She was initially treated with aripiprazole and lorazepam. After 4 weeks, she was treated with electroconvulsive therapy. By 10 treatments, echolalia vanished, and catatonic behavior was alleviated.     Effectiveness of adjusting for heterogeneity of variance in genetic evaluation of Japanese Black cattle

    Heterogeneity of variance among subclasses of an effect is a potential source of bias in genetic evaluation. The objectives of this study were to quantify the heterogeneity of variance in carcass weight in Japanese Black cattle, to develop an adjustment method to account for the heterogeneity, and to evaluate the effectiveness of the method. A total of 96,950 records were collected from steers and heifers slaughtered from 1997 to 2005. These records were grouped into 2,767 farm-market-year-sex subclasses. Fourteen log-linear models for the variances were set up to estimate the heterogeneous phenotypic variances within subclasses. Schwarz’s Bayesian information criterion was used for model selection. The preadjustment of records to a baseline variance was based on maximum likelihood estimates obtained from the selected model. As a result of adjustment, the SD, the CV, and the Gini coefficient for the phenotypic variance decreased by 68.6, 69.8, and 70.1%, respectively. When the top 5% of sires and top 1% of dams were selected, Spearman’s rank correlation coefficients between the adjusted and unadjusted data were 0.95 for the selected sires and 0.78 for the selected dams. The effectiveness of the adjustment was evaluated in terms of the ability to predict breeding values, using the results of the successive genetic evaluations. Mean squared error between the parent averages and actual predicted values of the genetic merit for the sires whose progeny had a carcass record only from 2003 to 2005 was significantly reduced by the adjustment (P < 0.05). The results suggest that the genetic evaluation becomes more accurate by adjusting the data using the procedure developed in this study.journal articl

    ChatGPT es una aplicación de Inteligencia Artificial actual y de fácil interacción, lo que la convierte en una herramienta popular fuera y dentro del aula. En el ámbito universitario, el estudiantado la utiliza sin testar si los resultados son ciertos y exactos o si la información procede de fuentes fiables. Ante esto, nuestro objetivo es doble: por un lado, comprobamos el nivel de destreza digital del estudiantado a partir de un cuestionario sobre habilidades con TIC en el espacio educativo. Por otro lado, estudiamos cómo el uso crítico y responsable de ChatGPT puede ayudar al aprendizaje y a la enseñanza en las aulas de educación superior. Para ello, analizamos el nivel de corrección de las respuestas a conceptos específicos de las áreas de lengua, literatura y didáctica de las matemáticas. En el estudio se detectó, a través de una nueva encuesta, que la percepción del alumnado sobre la IA Generativa había cambiado, ya que la mayoría manifestó que era necesario y positivo incorporar formación sobre esta en sus estudios universitarios

    The temple gardens are an important human landscape and have an important position in the Chinese garden system. Using GIS analysis tools, primarily the Nearest Neighbor Index, Kernel Density Estimation, and Spatial Autocorrelation, and employing a Geographic Detector model, we analyzed the spatial distribution characteristics and influencing factors of 4,317 temples and gardens in Jiangxi Province. Research shows that: 1) The spatial distribution type of temple gardens in Jiangxi Province is agglomeration type, with large spatial differences in distribution, forming a spatial distribution pattern of “generally dispersed and concentrated in some areas”; 2) the distribution of temple gardens in Jiangxi Province is uneven. They are mostly distributed in five prefecture-level cities: Ganzhou, Jiujiang, Shangrao, Fuzhou, and Nanchang; 3) The overall spatial distribution of temple gardens in Jiangxi Province has positive autocorrelation characteristics, and prefecture-level cities have significant proximity characteristics, forming a “high-high” “agglomeration” and “low-low agglomeration” distribution patterns; 4) Temple gardens in various regions are affected by geomorphological factors, and are mostly concentrated in the lower altitude range of 0–500 m and the gentle slope of 0°–30°. Most of the distribution density of temple gardens in various prefecture-level cities is within the buffer zone distance of the road network within the range of 0–1.5 km. 5) Economic, cultural, demographic, and historical factors have affected the development of temple gardens. Areas with more active economies have a denser number of temple gardens. The unique regional culture affects the distribution of temples and gardens in different regions. In places where the modern population is densely distributed, there are fewer temples and gardens, while in places where the population is less densely distributed, there are more temples and gardens. 6) The use of geographical detectors to detect influencing factors shows that the greatest impact on the spatial distribution of temple gardens in Jiangxi Province is the road network, followed by elevation, slope, GDP, and water systems. The research is conducive to scientific understanding of the distribution of temple gardens among prefecture-level cities in Jiangxi Province, and provides reference for strengthening the protection of temple gardens and exploring the tourism characteristics of temple gardens.</p

    Medical students' perceptions of a novel international adaptive progress test

    AbstractBetween 2018–2021, eight European medical schools took part in a study to develop a medical knowledge Online Adaptive International Progress Test. Here we discuss participants’ self-perception to evaluate the acceptability of adaptive vs non-adaptive testing. Study participants, students from across Europe at all stages of undergraduate medical education with varying levels of prior experience with progress testing, sat remotely invigilated tests using the online QuizOne® platform. Participants completed online feedback questionnaires on their experiences and perceptions of adaptive and non-adaptive tests. Overall satisfaction with the organisation and delivery of remote online tests was high regardless of previous experience with progress testing, differences in stages, programmes, and to some degree language. In statements probing the appropriateness of the level and the length of testing, differences were observed between adaptive and non-adaptive tests. There was a high level of agreement that the adaptive test was a good measure of personal knowledge and increased participants’ motivation for study. Students’ self-perception of the assessment is an important factor in evaluation of acceptability of the exam and its further development. In our study, the adaptive test algorithm adjusted the level of difficulty for the individual student in real-time, leading to positive perceptions of the length of the test and promoting students’ engagement. The assessment increases student motivation for learning and in turn, has the potential to improve their performance.</jats:p
