Written feedback and revision : Some data from a L1 writing class

Commenting on student writing is generally considered to hold a central place in both first (L1) and second language (L2) writing pedagogy. However, despite several decades of research on feedback and response, our understanding of its complex nature is still far from complete, which is due in part to methodological flaws that have made it difficult to compare results across studies. The present study aims to address this by applying a well-developed analytical framework to teacher comments and student revisions collected from a university L1 composition course in the United States. Comments were analyzed according to a framework that included length, textual referent, focus, mode, and salience; revisions were analyzed according to uptake and success. This analysis revealed both general patterns and a substantial amount of variation in the types of comments that the teacher provided as well as the revisions that followed those comments. Some of this variation was clearly associated with contextual factors such as mode of delivery (handwritten versus online commentary), sequencing of assignments and drafts, and individual student factors. It is concluded that teachers may comment more effectively by addressing a limited number of issues on any given draft in greater depth. Moreover, future research on commentary may benefit from both quantitative and qualitative analyses.departmental bulletin pape

Invention of zirconia implant which has a tight attachment towards soft tissue by means of protein immobilization

研究成果の概要（和文）： ジルコニアインプラントの軟組織付着能の向上を目指して，まず，ジルコニアへの二段階タンパク質吸着についてQCM法を用いて解析し，タンパク質吸着はその順番が影響することを見出した．さらに，フィブロネクチンを固定化したジルコニアインプラントの動物埋入実験を行い，インプラント付着軟組織において，インプラント体に垂直に配向しているコラーゲン線維が確認できた．本研究の結果から，フィブロネクチン固定化は軟組織付着能の向上に効果があることが結論できる．研究成果の概要（英文）：First, two-step protein adsorption was analyzed by using QCM method to improve the soft tissue attachment on zirconia implant. It revealed than the order of protein adsorption influence the following protein adsorption. Next, we did the animal implantation experiments of fibronectin adsorbed zirconia implants. Perpendicularly oriented collage fibers towards zirconia implants were observed in the attached soft tissue. LC-Petri Net expanded to be suitable for making FMS model

applicationIn this paper, we propose an extension of Petri nets (LC-Petri net: LCPN) suitable for FMS design and discuss its methods of evaluation. This LCPN is a marked net with addition of the following features: data assignment of marks, representation of firing conditions as logic equations, coupling of output procedures with transition firing, etc. Also, since the concept of transition firing evaluation orders is omitted from the analysis of conventional Petri nets, we introduce this concept formally in our proposed net. Finally, in order to study the behavior of a system modelled with this net, we provide a means for searching the reachability tree of markings. 価格プロモーションのためのマーケット・セグメンテーション

Tellis (1986) に示されている、地理的プライシング、第二市場プライシングといった差別的な価格戦略を実践するためには、消費者の価格反応の異質性を把握する必要がある。本稿では、セグメントによって異なる消費者価格反応を検出することを目的として、3つの価格反応変数によるマーケット・セグメンテーションを試みた。分析データとしてスーパーマーケットにおける購買履歴データが用いられ、分析手法としては潜在クラス分析が用いられた。There are many pricing strategies as shown by Tellis (1986). In differential pricing strategies like geographic pricing strategy, or second market pricing strategy, understanding the difference of response to price by consumers and conducting price differentiation among markets is required. Therefore market segmentation based on consumer price sensitivity is helpful in order to conduct differential pricing strategy. The purpose of this research is to suggest the market segmentation method for pricing strategy. In this paper, latent class analysis is conducted for market segmentation to clarify consumer heterogeneity in terms of factors related to price sensitivity. Application of latent class analysis to panel data from supermarkets in Japan is illustrated. Based on the result, effective market segmentation for pricing strategy is discussed.departmental bulletin pape

Discourse analysis of teacher comments : A longitudinal study of L2 writing classes

Since written response is a central aspect of composition pedagogy in both first (L1) and second (L2) language courses, it is crucial to develop and apply well-defined models of teacher commentary which are grounded in theory and empirical data. However, although research on response in both L1 and L2 settings has yielded a number of intriguing findings, there is little crossover between the two fields. This study aims to bridge this gap by applying the analytical framework used in a previous study of L1 composition classrooms (Clements, 2004) to longitudinal data drawn from two sections of a L2 composition course. Results show that while both instructors followed a number of patterns in the ways that they commented across drafts, their comments varied in ways that reflected their individual commenting styles.departmental bulletin pape
