Trade-off between Hardware and Software in a Design of Microprocessor-Based System

    Get PDF
publisherInfluence of the appearance of microprocessor on electronic circuits and systems is discussed in connection with a trade-off between hardware and software. Distinctive features of the hardware and software are considered in a microprocessor-based system. The points that we need to estimate in the trade-off are suggested from the standpoints such as the principle of operations, and the speed or complexity of processing.departmental bulletin pape

Quantum antireflection temporal coatings: quantum state frequency shifting and inhibited thermal noise amplification

    Get PDF
The quantum optical response of antireflection temporal coatings (ATCs), that is, matching temporal layers that suppress the generation of backward waves in temporal boundaries, is investigated. The results reveal that quantum ATCs are characterized for inducing a frequency shift of the quantum state, while preserving all photon statistics intact. Thus, they can find application for fast quantum frequency shifting in photonic quantum networks. The quantum theory also provides additional insight on their classical mode of operation, clarifying which quantities are preserved through the temporal boundary. Last, it is shown that quantum ATCs allow for fast temporal switching without amplification of thermal fields.I.L. acknowledges support from the Ramón y Cajal fellowship RYC2018- 024123-I and ERC Starting Grant 948504. An Analysis of Machine Translation and Speech Synthesis in Speech-To-Speech Translation System

    Get PDF
application/pdfThis paper provides an analysis of the impacts of machine translation and speech synthesis on speech-to-speech translation systems. The speech-to-speech translation system consists of three components: speech recognition, machine translation and speech synthesis. Many techniques for integration of speech recognition and machine translation have been proposed. However, speech synthesis has not yet been considered. Therefore, in this paper, we focus on machine translation and speech synthesis, and report a subjective evaluation to analyze the impact of each component. The results of these analyses show that the naturalness and intelligibility of synthesized speech are strongly affected by the fluency of the translated sentences.Prague, Czech May 22-27, 2011conference pape

Bayesian Speech Synthesis Framework Integrating Training and Synthesis Processes

    Get PDF
application/pdfThis paper proposes a speech synthesis technique integrating training and synthesis processes based on the Bayesian framework. In the Bayesian speech synthesis, all processes are derived from one single predictive distribution which represents the problem of speech synthesis directly. However, it typically assumes that the posterior distribution of model parameters is independent of synthesis data, and this separates the system into training and synthesis parts. This paper removes the approximation and derives an algorithm that the posterior distributions, decision trees and synthesis data are iteratively updated. Experimental results show that the proposed method improves the quality of synthesized speech.NICT/ATR, Kyoto, Japan, September 22-24, 2010conference pape
