The Issues and Prospects of Regional Museum Practices in Japan as Reviewing Online Seminar “Residents and Regional Museums in Covid-19”

    Get PDF
departmental bulletin pape

High hydrostatic pressure processing to replace texturizing agents on a plant product intended for altered deglutition: a concept proof

High hydrostatic pressure processing (HPP) can cause changes in food texture. These changes can be beneficial when developing food with strict texture specifications as it is the case of food targeted to people with altered deglutition (AD) issues. The aim of the present research was to evaluate the HPP potential as an alternative to the use of texturizing agents currently added to AD-targeted food products. First, formulation and experimental conditions of treatments were established, and 2 types of chickpea protein pur´ees, one containing corn starch (PS) and the other chicory inulin (PI), were developed. Second, the pur´ees were, in one case HPP-treated (300–400 MPa; 3–9 min) and in the other texturized with agar-agar and xanthan gum. Overall, HPP did not significantly affect the proximate composition of the purées and improved their microbiological quality, and, most importantly, they caused beneficial texture changes on both PS and PI purées. In addition, HPP-treatments conferred similar instrumental texture values to texturized purées. These texture values come within the given specific range data supplied by the literature for AD suitability. The present study provides the basis for applying HPP in the development of texturizer-free AD-oriented purées.The present article was founded by Navarre Government through the Program “Ayudas para la realización de Proyectos Estratégicos de I + D 2021–2024 (ALISSEC project 0011-1411-2021). Base-Excision Repair Mutational Signature in Two Sebaceous Carcinomas of the Eyelid

: Personalized medicine aims to develop tailored treatments for individual patients based on specific mutations present in the affected organ. This approach has proven paramount in cancer treatment, as each tumor carries distinct driver mutations that respond to targeted drugs and, in some cases, may confer resistance to other therapies. Particularly for rare conditions, personalized medicine has the potential to revolutionize treatment strategies. Rare cancers often lack extensive datasets of molecular and pathological information, large-scale trials for novel therapies, and established treatment guidelines. Consequently, surgery is frequently the only viable option for many rare tumors, when feasible, as traditional multimodal approaches employed for more common cancers often play a limited role. Sebaceous carcinoma of the eyelid is an exceptionally rare cancer affecting the eye's adnexal tissues, most frequently reported in Asia, but whose prevalence is significantly increasing even in Europe and the US. The sole established curative treatment is surgical excision, which can lead to significant disfigurement. In cases of metastatic sebaceous carcinoma, validated drug options are currently lacking. In this project, we set out to characterize the mutational landscape of two sebaceous carcinomas of the eyelid following surgical excision. Utilizing available bioinformatics tools, we demonstrated our ability to identify common features promptly and accurately in both tumors. These features included a Base-Excision Repair mutational signature, a notably high tumor mutational burden, and key driver mutations in somatic tissues. These findings had not been previously reported in similar studies. This report underscores how, in the case of rare tumors, it is possible to comprehensively characterize the mutational landscape of each individual case, potentially opening doors to targeted therapeutic options

Evaluation of the space collaboration system : its history, image quality and effectiveness for joint case conference

    Get PDF
2000-05A joint case-conference was conducted between the Departments of Radiology at Nagoya and Kobe Universities using the Space Collaboration System (SCS), which connects 39 national universities and institutes by communication satellite. In the conference, both sides presented cases using medical images such as those from CT, MRI, and DSA, and the cases were discussed between participants at the two universities. After the final conference, we distributed a questionnaire to solicit responses from the 43 participating radiologists on the quality of the transferred images and their overall impression of the conference. The responses showed that the CT, MRI, and DSA images were clear enough to allow discussion, whereas the plain X-ray images were not. Hence from the standpoint of image quality, the SCS may be unsuited for medical image diagnosis, but useful for presentation of case images in joint conferences and seminars.departmental bulletin pape

Animal-borne soundscape logger as a system for edge classification of sound sources and data transmission for monitoring near-real-time underwater soundscape

The underwater environment is filled with various sounds, with its soundscape composed of biological, geographical, and anthropological sounds. Our work focused on developing a novel method to observe and classify these sounds, enriching our understanding of the underwater ecosystem. We constructed a biologging system allowing near-real-time observation of underwater soundscapes. Utilizing deep-learning-based edge processing, this system classifies the sources of sounds, and upon the tagged animal surfacing, it transmits positional data, results of sound source classification, and sensor readings such as depth and temperature. To test the system, we attached the logger to sea turtles (Chelonia mydas) and collected data through a cellular network. The data provided information on the location-specific sounds detected by the sea turtles, suggesting the possibility to infer the distribution of specific species of organisms over time. The data showed that not only biological sounds but also geographical and anthropological sounds can be classified, highlighting the potential for conducting multi-point and long-term observations to monitor the distribution patterns of various sound sources. This system, which can be considered an autonomous mobile platform for oceanographic observations, including soundscapes, has significant potential to enhance our understanding of acoustic diversity.journal articl
