Dynamics of D3-D7 Brane Inflation in Throats
Dynamics of D3-branes in models of warped D3-D7 inflationary set up is
studied where perturbative correction to the K\"ahler potential and
the nonperturbative corrections to the superpotential are included. It is shown
that a dS minimum can be obtained without introducing anti-branes. Some
specific configurations of D7-branes embedding were studied. After stabilizing
the angular directions, it is shown that the resulting D3-D7 potential of the
radial position of the D3-brane is too steep to allow slow-roll inflation.
Depending on D7-branes embedding and the stabilized angular directions, the
mobile D3-brane can move either towards the tip of the throat or towards the
D7-branes.Comment: minor changes, to appear in JHE
D3/D7 Inflationary Model and M-theory
A proposal is made for a cosmological D3/D7 model with a constant magnetic
flux along the D7 world-volume. It describes an N=2 gauge model with
Fayet-Iliopoulos terms and the potential of the hybrid P-term inflation. The
motion of the D3-brane towards D7 in a phase with spontaneously broken
supersymmetry provides a period of slow-roll inflation in the de Sitter valley,
the role of the inflaton being played by the distance between D3 and D7-branes.
After tachyon condensation a supersymmetric ground state is formed: a D3/D7
bound state corresponding to an Abelian non-linear (non-commutative) instanton.
In this model the existence of a non-vanishing cosmological constant is
associated with the resolution of the instanton singularity. We discuss a
possible embedding of this model into a compactified M-theory setup.Comment: 30 pages, 4 figures, LaTeX; v2, minor typos corrected, one reference

Inflation on an Open Racetrack
We present a variant of warped D-brane inflation by incorporating multiple
sets of holomorphically-embedded D7-branes involved in moduli stabilization
with extent into a warped throat. The resultant D3-brane motion depends on the
D7-brane configuration and the relative position of the D3-brane in these
backgrounds. The non-perturbative moduli stabilization superpotential takes the
racetrack form, but the additional D3-brane open string moduli dependence
provides more flexibilities in model building. For concreteness, we consider
D3-brane motion in the warped deformed conifold with the presence of multiple
D7-branes, and derive the scalar potential valid for the entire throat. By
explicit tuning of the microphysical parameters, we obtain inflationary
trajectories near an inflection point for various D7-brane configurations.
Moreover, the open racetrack potential admits approximate Minkowski vacua
before uplifting. We demonstrate with a concrete D-brane inflation model where
the Hubble scale during inflation can exceed the gravitino mass. Finally, the
multiple sets of D7-branes present in this open racetrack setup also provides a
mechanism to stabilize the D3-brane to metastable vacua in the intermediate
region of the warped throat.Comment: 29 pages, 15 figures, pre-print number and references adde
N=1 Dualities of SO and USp Gauge Theories and T-Duality of String Theory
Extending recent work on SU gauge theory, we engineer local string models for
N=1 four-dimensional SO and USp gauge theories coupled to matter in the
fundamental. The local models are type IIB orientifolds with D7 branes on a
curved orientifold 7-plane, and matter realized by adding D3 branes on the
orientifold plane. The Higgs branches of the SO and USp theories can be matched
with the moduli spaces of SO and USp instantons on the compact four-dimensional
part of the D7 branes worldvolume. The R-charge of the gauge theories is
identified with a U(1) symmetry on the worldvolume of an Euclidean D3 brane
instanton. We argue that the quantum field theory dualities of these gauge
theories arise from T-dualities of type IIB strings exchanging D7 and D3
charges. A crucial role is played by the induced D3 charge of D7 branes and an
orientifold 7-plane, both partially compactified on a orbifold of K3.Comment: 15 page
Spectroscopy of fermionic operators in AdS/CFT
We compute the spectrum of color-singlet fermionic operators in the N=2 gauge
theory on intersecting D3 and D7-branes using the AdS/CFT correspondence. The
operator spectrum is found analytically by solving the equations for the dual
D7-brane fluctuations. For the fermionic part of the D7-brane action, we use
the Dirac-like form found by Martucci et al. (hep-th/0504041). We also consider
the baryon spectrum of a large class of supersymmetric gauge theories using a
phenomenological approach to the gauge/gravity duality.Comment: 19 pages, 2 tables, references adde
Consistent reduction of charged D3-D7 systems
We provide a consistent reduction to five dimensions of the system of
D3-branes at Calabi-Yau singularities coupled to D7-branes with world-volume
gauge flux. The D3-branes source the dual to would-be conformal quiver
theories. The D7-branes, which are homogeneously distributed in their
transverse directions, are dual to massless matter in the fundamental
representation at finite (baryon) density. We provide the five-dimensional
action and equations of motion, and discuss a few sub-truncations. The
reduction can be used in the study of transport properties and stability of
D3-D7 charged systems.Comment: 23 pages. v2: references added and minor change
N=1 Matter from Fractional Branes
We study a bound state of fractional D3-branes localized inside the
world-volume of fractional D7-branes on the orbifold C^3/Z_2 x Z_2. We
determine the open string spectrum that leads to N=1 U(N1)xU(N2)xU(N3)xU(N4)
gauge theory with matter having the number of D7-branes as a flavor index. We
derive the linearized boundary action of the D7-brane on this orbifold using
the boundary state formalism and we discuss the tadpole cancellation. After
computing the asymptotic expression of the supergravity solution the anomalies
of the gauge theory are reproduced.Comment: LaTeX 20 pages, 1 figure, small changes and references adde
Multi instanton tests of holography
Gauge theories living on stacks of D7-branes are holographically related to
IIB gravitational backgrounds with a varying axion-dilaton field (F-theory).
The axion-dilaton field is generated by D7, O7 and D-instanton sources and can
be written in terms of the chiral correlators of the eight dimensional gauge
theory living on the D7-branes. Using localization techniques, we prove that
the same correlators determine the gauge coupling of the four-dimensional N=2
supersymmetric SU(2) gauge theories living on the elementary D3-brane which
probes the F-theory geometries.Comment: 18 page
