On the eclipsing cataclysmic variable star HBHA 4705-03
We present observations and analysis of a new eclipsing binary HBHA 4705-03.
Using decomposition of the light curve into accretion disk and hot spot
components, we estimated photometrically the mass ratio of the studied system
to be q=0.62 +-0.07. Other fundamental parameters was found with modeling. This
approach gave: white dwarf mass M_1 = (0.8 +- 0.2) M_sun, secondary mass
M_2=(0.497 +- 0.05) M_sun, orbital radius a=1.418 R_sun, orbital inclination i
= (81.58 +- 0.5) deg, accretion disk radius r_d/a = 0.366 +- 0.002, and
accretion rate dot{M} = (2.5 +- 2) * 10^{18}[g/s], (3*10^{-8} [M_sun/yr]).
Power spectrum analysis revealed ambiguous low-period Quasi Periodic
Oscillations centered at the frequencies f_{1}=0.00076 Hz, f_2=0.00048 Hz and
f_3=0.00036 Hz. The B-V=0.04 [mag] color corresponds to a dwarf novae during an
outburst. The examined light curves suggest that HBHA 4705-03 is a nova-like

The Galactic Kinematics of Cataclysmic Variables
Kinematical properties of CVs were investigated according to population types
and orbital periods, using the space velocities computed from recently updated
systemic velocities, proper motions and parallaxes. Reliability of collected
space velocity data are refined by removing 34 systems with largest space
velocity errors. The 216 CVs in the refined sample were shown to have a
dispersion of km s corresponding to a mean kinematical
age of Gyr. Population types of CVs were identified using their
Galactic orbital parameters. According to the population analysis, seven old
thin disc, nine thick disc and one halo CV were found in the sample, indicating
that 94% of CVs in the Solar Neighbourhood belong to the thin-disc component of
the Galaxy. Mean kinematical ages and Gyr are
for the non-magnetic thin-disc CVs below and above the period gap,
respectively. There is not a meaningful difference between the velocity
dispersions below and above the gap. Velocity dispersions of the non-magnetic
thin-disc systems below and above the gap are and km s, respectively. This result is not in agreement with the
standard formation and evolution theory of CVs. The mean kinematical ages of
the CV groups in various orbital period intervals increase towards shorter
orbital periods. This is in agreement with the standard theory for the
evolution of CVs. Rate of orbital period change was found to be

Absolute dimensions of the G7+K7 eclipsing binary star IM Virginis: Discrepancies with stellar evolution models
We report extensive spectroscopic and differential photometric BVRI
observations of the active, detached, 1.309-day double-lined eclipsing binary
IM Vir, composed of a G7-type primary and a K7 secondary. With these
observations we derive accurate absolute masses and radii of M(1) = 0.981 +/-
0.012 M(Sun), M(2) = 0.6644 +/- 0.0048 M(Sun), R(1) = 1.061 +/- 0.016 R(Sun),
and R(2) = 0.681 +/- 0.013 R(Sun) for the primary and secondary, with relative
errors under 2%. The effective temperatures are 5570 +/- 100 K and 4250 +/- 130
K. The significant difference in mass makes this a favorable case for
comparison with stellar evolution theory. We find that both stars are larger
than the models predict, by 3.7% for the primary and 7.5% for the secondary, as
well as cooler than expected, by 100 K and 150 K, respectively. These
discrepancies are in line with previously reported differences in low-mass
stars, and are believed to be caused by chromospheric activity, which is not
accounted for in current models. The effect is not confined to low-mass stars:
the rapidly-rotating primary of IM Vir joins the growing list of objects of
near-solar mass (but still with convective envelopes) that show similar
anomalies. The comparison with the models suggests an age of 2.4 Gyr for the
system, and a metallicity [Fe/H] of approximately -0.3 that is consistent with

Tactics for Reasoning modulo AC in Coq
We present a set of tools for rewriting modulo associativity and
commutativity (AC) in Coq, solving a long-standing practical problem. We use
two building blocks: first, an extensible reflexive decision procedure for
equality modulo AC; second, an OCaml plug-in for pattern matching modulo AC. We
handle associative only operations, neutral elements, uninterpreted function
symbols, and user-defined equivalence relations. By relying on type-classes for
the reification phase, we can infer these properties automatically, so that
end-users do not need to specify which operation is A or AC, or which constant
is a neutral element.Comment: 16
Automated Certification of Authorisation Policy Resistance
Attribute-based Access Control (ABAC) extends traditional Access Control by
considering an access request as a set of pairs attribute name-value, making it
particularly useful in the context of open and distributed systems, where
security relevant information can be collected from different sources. However,
ABAC enables attribute hiding attacks, allowing an attacker to gain some access
by withholding information. In this paper, we first introduce the notion of
policy resistance to attribute hiding attacks. We then propose the tool ATRAP
(Automatic Term Rewriting for Authorisation Policies), based on the recent
formal ABAC language PTaCL, which first automatically searches for resistance
counter-examples using Maude, and then automatically searches for an Isabelle
proof of resistance. We illustrate our approach with two simple examples of

TYC 2675-663-1: A newly discovered W UMa system in an active state
The recently discovered eclipsing binary system TYC 2675-663-1 is a X-ray
source, and shows properties in the optical that are similar to the W UMa
systems, but are somewhat unusual compared to what is seen in other contact
binary systems. The goal of this work is to characterize its properties and
investigate its nature by means of detailed photometric and spectroscopic
observations. We have performed extensive V-band photometric measurements with
the INTEGRAL satellite along with ground-based multi-band photometric
observations, as well as high-resolution spectroscopic monitoring from which we
have measured the radial velocities of the components. These data have been
analysed to determine the stellar properties, including the absolute masses and
radii. Additional low-resolution spectroscopy was obtained to investigate
spectral features. From the measured eclipse timings we determine an orbital
period for the binary of P=0.4223576+-0.0000009 days. The light-curve and
spectroscopic analyses reveal the observations to be well represented by a
model of an overcontact system composed of main-sequence F5 and G7 stars
(temperature difference of nearly 1000 K), with the possible presence of a
third star. Low-resolution optical spectroscopy reveals a complex H alpha
emission, and other features that are not yet understood. The unusually large
mass ratio of q=0.81+-0.05 places it in the rare "H" (high mass ratio) subclass
of the W UMa systems, which are presumably on their way to coalescence.Comment: 12 pages in double column format. Accepted for publication in

Formal Model Engineering for Embedded Systems Using Real-Time Maude
This paper motivates why Real-Time Maude should be well suited to provide a
formal semantics and formal analysis capabilities to modeling languages for
embedded systems. One can then use the code generation facilities of the tools
for the modeling languages to automatically synthesize Real-Time Maude
verification models from design models, enabling a formal model engineering
process that combines the convenience of modeling using an informal but
intuitive modeling language with formal verification. We give a brief overview
six fairly different modeling formalisms for which Real-Time Maude has provided
the formal semantics and (possibly) formal analysis. These models include
behavioral subsets of the avionics modeling standard AADL, Ptolemy II
discrete-event models, two EMF-based timed model transformation systems, and a

Extending the Real-Time Maude Semantics of Ptolemy to Hierarchical DE Models
This paper extends our Real-Time Maude formalization of the semantics of flat
Ptolemy II discrete-event (DE) models to hierarchical models, including modal
models. This is a challenging task that requires combining synchronous
fixed-point computations with hierarchical structure. The synthesis of a
Real-Time Maude verification model from a Ptolemy II DE model, and the formal
verification of the synthesized model in Real-Time Maude, have been integrated
into Ptolemy II, enabling a model-engineering process that combines the
convenience of Ptolemy II DE modeling and simulation with formal verification

Internet-based psychoeducation for bipolar disorder: a qualitative analysis of feasibility, acceptability and impact
<p>Background: In a recent exploratory randomised trial we found that a novel, internet-based psychoeducation programme for bipolar disorder (Beating Bipolar) was relatively easy to deliver and had a modest effect on psychological quality of life. We sought to explore the experiences of participants with respect to feasibility, acceptability and impact of Beating Bipolar.</p>
<p>Methods: Participants were invited to take part in a semi-structured interview. Thematic analysis techniques were employed; to explore and describe participants’ experiences, the data were analysed for emerging themes which were identified and coded.</p>
<p>Results: The programme was feasible to deliver and acceptable to participants where they felt comfortable using a computer. It was found to impact upon insight into illness, health behaviour, personal routines and positive attitudes towards medication. Many participants regarded the programme as likely to be most beneficial for those recently diagnosed.</p>
<p>Conclusions: An online psychoeducation package for bipolar disorder, such as Beating Bipolar, is feasible and acceptable to patients, has a positive impact on self-management behaviours and may be particularly suited to early intervention. Alternative (non-internet) formats should also be made available to patients.</p>
