Microbial Analysis of Biomedical Wastes From Selected Health Facilities in Parts of Edo South and Its Public Health Implication

This study, aimed at the microbial analysis of biomedical waste (BMW) was carried out using 100 samples of 10 different BMW collected in duplicates from 5 busy primary healthcare centers (PHCs).The research findings showed a high prevalence of E.coli (39%) and S.aureus (32%) which were both statistically significant at P≤0.05, while the least isolated organisms were K. pnuemoniae (10%) and B. subtilis (4%) and were statistically not significant at P≥0.05. Samples from dressings and beddings were found to contain the highest microbial loadof 25 and 13 respectively while the least number of isolates were from expired cytotoxic drugs (2) and lancets (1).The biochemical tests showed the presence of Gram positive and negative organisms with record of both aerobic and anaerobic isolates from the BMW. The investigation revealed that BMW contains mixed bacterial community with some being pathogenic and pose a public health hazard to both health workers and other community members, therefore adequate treatment measures should be given to all BMW before disposal

The Effects of Acute Exercise and Learning Strategy Implementation on Episodic Memory Performance

Over the years, a growing body of research has shown that exercise has beneficial impacts on various types of memory function. However, most of these studies have focused on children or older adults, with less research conducted among young adults, despite research demonstrating that memory function may start to decline in early adulthood. This thesis provides background information regarding the effects of exercise on memory function, as well as different learning-based strategies to help facilitate learning and memory retention. Furthermore, the research I completed for this thesis specifically evaluated the experimental effects of acute exercise, a specific learning strategy (3-R technique), and their combined effects, on short- and long-term memory function. The results of this experiment demonstrate that memory function was enhanced, to the greatest extent, among those who engaged in an acute bout of exercise (brisk walking) and also implemented the 3-R learning technique, when compared to those who only exercised, only implemented the learning technique, or those doing neither

Temperature, illumination and fluence dependence of current and voltage in electron irradiated solar cells

Emperical equations have been derived from measurements of solar cell photovoltaic characteristics relating light generated current, IL, and open circuit voltage, VO, to cell temperature, T, intensity of illumination, W, and 1 Mev electron fluence, phi both 2 ohm-cm and 10 ohm-cm cells were tested. The temperature dependency of IL is similar for both resistivities at 140mw/sq cm; at high temperature the coefficient varies with fluence as phi 0.18, while at low temperatures the coefficient is relatively independent of fluence. Fluence dependent degration causes a decrease in IL at a rate proportional to phi 0.153 for both resistivities. At all intensities other than 560 mw/sq cm, a linear dependence of IL on illumination was found. The temperature coefficient of voltage was, to a good approximation, independent of both temperature and illumination for both resistivities. Illumination dependence of VOC was logarithmic, while the decrease with fluence of VOC varied as phi 0.25 for both resistivities

    Playing Jotto Against a Computer

The November 1989 Word Ways reviewed Recreational Mathemagical Software (Clarks Summit PA) designed for playing the game of Jotto with a computer. In the two-person game of Jotto, each person selects a five-letter target word; the object is to guess your opponent\u27s word before he guesses yours. To identify his target word, you propose a sequence of five-letter words, and your opponent tells you how many letters of the guess word are in his target word. For example, if the target word is PIVOT, THOSE scores 2 (T,O match) and MUNCH, 0. You and your opponent agree beforehand on a dictionary of allowable guess and target words (the Official Scrabble Players Dictionary is useful here)
