Thermal Behaviour of Euclidean Stars
A recent study of dissipative collapse considered a contracting sphere in
which the areal and proper radii are equal throughout its evolution. The
interior spacetime was matched to the exterior Vaidya spacetime which generated
a temporal evolution equation at the boundary of the collapsing sphere. We
present a solution of the boundary condition which allows the study of the
gravitational and thermodynamical behaviour of this particular radiating model.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figure
Inflation driven by causal heat flux
We find a simple inflationary solution in an inhomogeneous spacetime with
heat flux. The heat flux obeys a causal transport equation, and counteracts the
inflationary decrease of energy density. At late times, the heat flux tends to

The marine linefish resources of Moçambique (status, development and future research)
Marine line-fishing is seen to be of major importance to the social well-being and economy of many coastal people of Mozambique. Aspects of the artisanal and semi-industrial fisheries of Mozambique are described and a recent significant increase in effort is noted. Landings are seen to comprise a high proportion of vulnerable, endemic species, several of which are shared with neighbouring South Africa. Trends in CPUE, sex ratios and yield per recruit suggest that future landings may decline if conservative management is not introduced. Strategies for data collection and biological research on key species are proposed
Gravitational Collapse of Null Radiation and a String fluid
We consider the end state of collapsing null radiation with a string fluid.
It is shown that, if diffusive transport is assumed for the string, that a
naked singularity can form (at least locally). The model has the advantage of
not being asymptotically flat. We also analyse the case of a radiation-string
two-fluid and show that a locally naked singularity can result in the collapse

Mainstreaming Underutilized Indigenous and Traditional Crops into Food Systems: A South African Perspective
Business as usual or transformative change? While the global agro-industrial food system is credited with increasing food production, availability and accessibility, it is also credited with giving birth to ‘new’ challenges such as malnutrition, biodiversity loss, and environmental degradation. We reviewed the potential of underutilized indigenous and traditional crops to bring about a transformative change to South Africa’s food system. South Africa has a dichotomous food system, characterized by a distinct, dominant agro-industrial, and, alternative, informal food system. This dichotomous food system has inadvertently undermined the development of smallholder producers. While the dominant agro-industrial food system has led to improvements in food supply, it has also resulted in significant trade-offs with agro-biodiversity, dietary diversity, environmental sustainability, and socio-economic stability, especially amongst the rural poor. This challenges South Africa’s ability to deliver on sustainable and healthy food systems under environmental change. The review proposes a transdisciplinary approach to mainstreaming underutilized indigenous and traditional crops into the food system, which offers real opportunities for developing a sustainable and healthy food system, while, at the same time, achieving societal goals such as employment creation, wellbeing, and environmental sustainability. This process can be initiated by researchers translating existing evidence for informing policy-makers. Similarly, policy-makers need to acknowledge the divergence in the existing policies, and bring about policy convergence in pursuit of a food system which includes smallholder famers, and where underutilized indigenous and traditional crops are mainstreamed into the South African food system
Renormalization Group Approach to Causal Viscous Cosmological Models
The renormalization group method is applied to the study of homogeneous and
flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker type Universes, filled with a causal bulk
viscous cosmological fluid. The starting point of the study is the
consideration of the scaling properties of the gravitational field equations,
of the causal evolution equation of the bulk viscous pressure and of the
equations of state. The requirement of scale invariance imposes strong
constraints on the temporal evolution of the bulk viscosity coefficient,
temperature and relaxation time, thus leading to the possibility of obtaining
the bulk viscosity coefficient-energy density dependence. For a cosmological
model with bulk viscosity coefficient proportional to the Hubble parameter, we
perform the analysis of the renormalization group flow around the scale
invariant fixed point, therefore obtaining the long time behavior of the scale

Non-adiabatic radiative collapse of a relativistic star under different initial conditions
We examine the role of space-time geometry in the non-adiabatic collapse of a
star dissipating energy in the form of radial heat flow, studying its evolution
under different initial conditions. The collapse of a star with interior
comprising of a homogeneous perfect fluid is compared with that of a star
filled with inhomogeneous imperfect fluid with anisotropic pressure. Both the
configurations are spherically symmetric, however, in the latter case, the
physical space of the configurations is assumed to be
inhomogeneous endowed with spheroidal or pseudo-spheroidal geometry. It is
observed that as long as the collapse is shear-free, its evolution depends only
on the mass and size of the star at the onset of collapse.Comment: To appear in Pramana- j. of physic

Patient experiences of swallowing exercises after head and neck cancer:A qualitative study examining barriers and facilitators using behaviour change theory
Poor patient adherence to swallowing exercises is commonly reported in the dysphagia literature on patients treated for head and neck cancer. Establishing the effectiveness of exercise interventions for this population may be undermined by patient non-adherence. The purpose of this study was to explore the barriers and facilitators to exercise adherence from a patient perspective, and to determine the best strategies to reduce the barriers and enhance the facilitators. In-depth interviews were conducted on thirteen patients. We used a behaviour change framework and model [Theoretical domains framework and COM-B (Capability-opportunity-motivation-behaviour) model] to inform our interview schedule and structure our results, using a content analysis approach. The most frequent barrier identified was psychological capability. This was highlighted by patient reports of not clearly understanding reasons for the exercises, forgetting to do the exercises and not having a system to keep track. Other barriers included feeling overwhelmed by information at a difficult time (lack of automatic motivation) and pain and fatigue (lack of physical capability). Main facilitators included having social support from family and friends, the desire to prevent negative consequences such as long-term tube feeding (reflective motivation), having the skills to do the exercises (physical capability), having a routine or trigger and receiving feedback on the outcome of doing exercises (automatic motivation). Linking these findings back to the theoretical model allows for a more systematic selection of theory-based strategies that may enhance the design of future swallowing exercise interventions for patients with head and neck cancer
