    Inward and Outward Integral Equations and the KKR Method for Photons

    In the case of electromagnetic waves it is necessary to distinguish between inward and outward on-shell integral equations. Both kinds of equation are derived. A correct implementation of the photonic KKR method then requires the inward equations and it follows directly from them. A derivation of the KKR method from a variational principle is also outlined. Rather surprisingly, the variational KKR method cannot be entirely written in terms of surface integrals unless permeabilities are piecewise constant. Both kinds of photonic KKR method use the standard structure constants of the electronic KKR method and hence allow for a direct numerical application. As a by-product, matching rules are obtained for derivatives of fields on different sides of the discontinuity of permeabilities.     The article defined the directions of state management of the higher education quality, with taking into account peculiarities of manifestation (perception) of its contents on the individuality level. The article draws attention to the importance of aim to obtain higher education for ensuring its quality and also determined the place and role of the state in the corresponding process. In addition, the article determines the place and role of career guidance work in the system of higher education quality assurance, and presents a list of basic normative legal documents, which regulate relevant field of work.     This article focuses on some historical aspects of the formation and development of corporate training centers with taking into account the peculiarities of their functioning within a modern system of vocational education. In the article there is defined the categorical meaning of corporate education, and formulated the goal of corporate functioning of the institution. This article contains the author's opinion on the content of category definitions of corporate education and corporate university, and the results justify the importance of relevant experience of the Institute for the development of labor potential of classic form of higher education. In addition, the article presents generalizations about the possibility of using the traditional mechanisms of corporate universities to develop their own labor potential, within the system of classical universities in terms of improving the content of vocational training of subjects and objects of the educational process.Акцентується увага на окремих історичних аспектах формування та розвитку корпоративних навчальних центрів з прийняттям до уваги особливостей їх функціонування у межах сучасної системи професійної освіти. Визначено категоріальний зміст корпоративної освіти, а також сформульовано мету функціонування корпоративного навчального закладу.     The Aharonov-Casher theorem and the axial anomaly in the Aharonov-Bohm potential

    The spectral properties of the Dirac Hamiltonian in the the Aharonov-Bohm potential are discussed. By using the Krein-Friedel formula, the density of states (DOS) for different self-adjoint extensions is calculated. As in the nonrelativistic case, whenever a bound state is present in the spectrum it is always accompanied by a (anti)resonance at the energy. The Aharonov-Casher theorem must be corrected for singular field configurations. There are no zero (threshold) modes in the Aharonov-Bohm potential. For our choice of the 2d Dirac Hamiltonian, the phase-shift flip is shown to occur at only positive energies. This flip gives rise to a surplus of the DOS at the lower threshold coming entirely from the continuous part of the spectrum. The results are applied to several physical quantities: the total energy, induced fermion-number, and the axial anomaly

    Photonic crystals of coated metallic spheres

    It is shown that simple face-centered-cubic (fcc) structures of both metallic and coated metallic spheres are ideal candidates to achieve a tunable complete photonic bandgap (CPBG) for optical wavelengths using currently available experimental techniques. For coated microspheres with the coating width to plasma wavelength ratio lc/λp10l_c/\lambda_p \leq 10% and the coating and host refractive indices ncn_c and nhn_h, respectively, between 1 and 1.47, one can always find a sphere radius rsr_s such that the relative gap width gwg_w (gap width to the midgap frequency ratio) is larger than 5% and, in some cases, gwg_w can exceed 9%.     Quantum phase transition in Bose-Fermi mixtures

    We study a quantum Bose-Fermi mixture near a broad Feshbach resonance at zero temperature. Within a quantum field theoretical model a two-step Gaussian approximation allows to capture the main features of the quantum phase diagram. We show that a repulsive boson-boson interaction is necessary for thermodynamic stability. The quantum phase diagram is mapped in chemical potential and density space, and both first and second order quantum phase transitions are found.     Transport properties for a Luttinger liquid wire with Rashba spin-orbit coupling and Zeeman splitting

    We study the transport properties for a Luttinger-liquid (LL) quantum wire in the presence of both Rashba spin-orbit coupling (SOC) and a weak external in-plane magnetic field. The bosonized Hamiltonian of the system with an externally applied longitudinal electric field is established. And then the equations of motion for the bosonic phase fields are solved in the Fourier space, with which the both charge and spin conductivities for the system are calculated analytically based on the linear response theory. Generally, the ac conductivity is an oscillation function of the strengths of electron-electron interaction, Rashba SOC and magnetic field, as well as the driving frequency and the measurement position in the wire. Through analysis with some examples it is demonstrated that the modification on the conductivity due to electron-electron interactions is more remarkable than that due to SOC, while the effects of SOC and Zeeman splitting on the conductivity are very similar. The spin-polarized conductivities for the system in the absence of Zeeman effect or SOC are also discussed, respectively. The ratio of the spin-polarized conductivities σ/σ\sigma_\uparrow/\sigma_\downarrow is dependent of the electron-electron interactions for the system without SOC, while it is independent of the electron-electron interactions for the system without Zeeman splitting.Comment: 10 pages, 8 figure
