Mobile Paving System (MPS): A New Large Scale Freeform Fabrication Method
In the last decade, significant opportunities for automation have been identified in the area of
construction. Soaring labor and material costs have driven multiple research efforts in
construction automation. In this paper, we present a novel means for construction automation
that involves the fusion of the rapid prototyping, controls and mechatronics technologies. The
resultant autonomous construction mechanism has been designed for commercial applications.
Mobile Paving System (MPS) is a new freeform fabrication process which is capable of rapidly
producing variable profiles such as curbs and sidewalks out of materials like cement and asphalt.
Path generation and guidance of the construction operation is controlled by a mobile robot. This
article presents an overview of research and development efforts that are aimed at establishing

A user/programmer manual for the computer program SOUSSA P 1.1 is presented. The program was designed to provide accurate and efficient evaluation of steady and unsteady loads on aircraft having arbitrary shapes and motions, including structural deformations. These design goals were in part achieved through the incorporation of the data handling capabilities of the SPAR finite element Structural Analysis computer program. As a further result, SOUSSA P possesses an extensive checkpoint/ restart facility. The programmer's portion of this manual includes overlay/subroutine hierarchy, logical flow of control, definition of SOUSSA P 1.1 FORTRAN variables, and definition of SOUSSA P 1.1 subroutines. Purpose of the SOUSSA P 1.1 modules, input data to the program, output of the program, hardware/software requirements, error detection and reporting capabilities, job control statements, a summary of the procedure for running the program and two test cases including input and output and listings are described in the user oriented portion of the manual

A journey home: what drives how long people are homeless?
Abstract: This paper uses survival analysis to model exits over time from two alternative notions of homelessness. We are unique in being able to account for time-invariant, unobserved heterogeneity. We find that duration dependence has an inverted U-shape with exit rates initially increasing (indicating positive duration dependence) and then falling. Like previous researchers, we find results consistent with negative duration dependence in models which ignore unobserved heterogeneity. Exit rates out of homelessness fall with age and with the education level of mothers. Women are more likely than men to exit homelessness when it is broadly conceived, but appear to be less likely to exit when it is narrowly defined. Finally, higher paternal education and exemptions from welfare-related activity requirements due to either mental or physical health conditions are all associated with higher exit rates
Muon Pair Production by Electron-Photon Scatterings
The cross section for muon pair productions by electrons scattering over
photons, , is calculated analytically in the leading order. It is
pointed out that for the center-of-mass energy range, ,
the cross section for is less than b. The differential
energy spectrum for either of the resulting muons is given for the purpose of
high-energy neutrino astronomy. An implication of our result for a recent
suggestion concerning the high-energy cosmic neutrino generation through this

Epitaxial growth of deposited amorphous layer by laser annealing
We demonstrate that a single short pulse of laser irradiation of appropriate energy is capable of recrystallizing in open air an amorphous Si layer deposited on a (100) single-crystal substrate into an epitaxial layer. The laser pulse annealing technique is shown to overcome the interfacial oxide obstacle which usually leads to polycrystalline formation in normal thermal annealing
Heteroepitaxy of deposited amorphous layer by pulsed electron-beam irradiation
We demonstrate that a single short pulse of electron irradiation of appropriate energy is capable of recrystallizing epitaxially an amorphous Ge layer deposited on either or Si single-crystal substrate. The primary defects observed in the case were dislocations, whereas stacking faults were observed in samples
Laser pulse annealing of ion-implanted GaAs
GaAs single-crystals wafers are implanted at room temperature with 400-keV Te + ions to a dose of 1×10^15 cm^–2 to form an amorphous surface layer. The recrystallization of this layer is investigated by backscattering spectrometry and transmission electron microscopy after transient annealing by Q-switched ruby laser irradiation. An energy density threshold of about 1.0 J/cm^2 exists above which the layer regrows epitaxially. Below the threshold the layer is polycrystalline; the grain size increases as the energy density approaches threshold. The results are analogous to those reported for the elemental semiconductors, Si and Ge. The threshold value observed is in good agreement with that predicted by the simple model successfully applied previously to Si and Ge
Symbolic Extraction for Estimating Analog Layout Parasitics in Layout-Aware Synthesis
This paper presents a new layout parasitics extraction paradigm, symbolic extraction, for use in layout-aware analog synthesis methodologies. Unlike traditional post-layout extraction, symbolic extraction extracts layout parasitics in symbolic form from parameterized layouts. As a result, parasitic values can be calculated directly from given circuit and layout parameters. In layout-aware circuit synthesis process, tasks of time-consuming layout re-gerenarion and re-extraction can be replaced by this fast parasitics calculation step. In the paper, we discuss how to integrate symbolic extraction into the existing analog design flow and how symbolic extraction can be implemented
