    Parental line selection for yield contributing character of rice (Oryza sativa)

    The prime objective of any hybrid program is to bring the desirable genes present in the parent into a single genetic background. Therefore, an experiment was conducted to evaluate the parental performance at the experimental farm of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University. Nine A (male sterile) lines and Four R (restoral) lines were used here. To consider their performance various agronomic trait was selected and most emphasis was provide for plant height, days to maturity and other yield contributing character. The characters studied in this investigation exhibited low to moderate range of variability and heritability. Out of all RGBU0014A perform the height days to maturity then others. Although yield is more or less similar for the restorer parent, but considering other agronomic yield contributing trait RGBU003A, RGBU002A, RGBU009A can be selected to cross with superior restoral SL8 R and Mitali R to obtain ideal plant type.Int.     Disease flare of ankylosing spondylitis presenting as reactive arthritis with seropositivity: a case report

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Introduction</p> <p>Concurrent rheumatoid factor seropositivity is occasionally detected in ankylosing spondylitis and often causes confusion in clinical routine. Overlap between various seronegative arthritides is a known but uncommon association. Differentiation of spondyloarthropathy from rheumatoid arthritis is important, since the natural history, complications, treatments and prognosis of the two diseases differ significantly.</p> <p>Case presentation</p> <p>Here, we report the case of a 47-year-old Sri Lankan man who had a long history of intermittent joint pains worsening following a recent episode of self-resolving non-bloody diarrhea. Subsequently, he developed a skin rash suggestive of keratoderma blenorrhagica and circinate balanitis. He had classical radiological evidence of ankylosing spondylosis (previously undiagnosed) associated with human leukocyte antigen B27 antigen, but was positive for rheumatoid factor.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>A disease flare of ankylosing spondylitis prompted by a minor diarrheal illness showing well documented features of reactive arthritis is remarkable. The prognostic implications of seropositivity in spondyloarthritis are discussed.</p

    Wegener’s Granulomatosis Mimicking Pulmonary

    Wegener’s Granulomatosis(WG) is a rare type of multisystem small to medium vessel vasculitis with necrotizing granulomatous inflammation involving the upper airway, lungs and the kidneys. In generalized WG, patient invariably dies within few months if left untreated. The key to better prognosis is early treatment once the diagnosis is made. Our patient is a 21yr young lady who was initially diagnosed as nasal septal abscess and later as pulmonary tuberculosis. She was treated accordingly but did not improve. When presented to us, she had asymmetric polyarthritis, cough with mucoid expectoration, intermittent mild haemoptysis as well as fever with bilateral nasal obstruction and epistaxis of about 2 months duration. She was found to have saddle nose deformity with blocked nasal passage and easily bleeding nasal crusts. Bilateral episcleritis and oral aphthous ulceration were also present. Chest X-Ray showed bilateral consolidations and infiltrates. Her hemoglobion was 6.42 gm% with high ESR and CRP. Microscopic haematuria with high serum creatinine and strongly positive C-ANCA were also found. MRI showed rt maxillary sinusitis and right mastoiditis. Finally she was diagnosed as diffuse Wegener’s Granulomatosis according to ACR criteria.     Rheumatoid Arthritis and Ankylosing Spondylitis Occurring Together- A Case Report

    We report a case of middle aged man who presented with inflammatory low back pain with restriction of movement and enthesopathy. Later on the developed inflammatory pain affecting small and large joints of upper and lower limbs associated with morning stiffness with deformities. There is also positive family history. So, though the incidence is very rare the co-existence of rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis in this case would be a possibility.     Impact of COVID-19 on the social, economic, environmental and energy domains: Lessons learnt from a global pandemic.

    COVID-19 has heightened human suffering, undermined the economy, turned the lives of billions of people around the globe upside down, and significantly affected the health, economic, environmental and social domains. This study aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak on the ecological domain, the energy sector, society and the economy and investigate the global preventive measures taken to reduce the transmission of COVID-19. This analysis unpacks the key responses to COVID-19, the efficacy of current initiatives, and summarises the lessons learnt as an update on the information available to authorities, business and industry. This review found that a 72-hour delay in the collection and disposal of waste from infected households and quarantine facilities is crucial to controlling the spread of the virus. Broad sector by sector plans for socio-economic growth as well as a robust entrepreneurship-friendly economy is needed for the business to be sustainable at the peak of the pandemic. The socio-economic crisis has reshaped investment in energy and affected the energy sector significantly with most investment activity facing disruption due to mobility restrictions. Delays in energy projects are expected to create uncertainty in the years ahead. This report will benefit governments, leaders, energy firms and customers in addressing a pandemic-like situation in the future
