    The relevance of specific csfs for stakeholders during ERP implementation: an empirical study from Oman

    The success of ERP systems implementation is affected by the extent to which stakeholders have been prepared for the project activities and its outcomes. Stakeholders’ preparation needs change as the ERP implementation lifecycle progresses and varies across stakeholder groups. Therefore a dynamic model is needed for such preparation. However such a model needs to reflect the relevance of different CSFs to different stakeholder groups at different stages of the ERP implementation life-cycle. This study examines empirical evidence from a survey conducted in Omani organisations to determine what these individual CSFs are and how they are distributed across the ERP implementation life-cycle for different stakeholder groups. The CSFs included in the survey were derived from a structured review of literature. Purposive sampling was used to select respondents representing different ERP stakeholders groups, all respondents had both experience and knowledge of ERP implementations.     Private sector participation in the water and sanitation sector: alternative options and measurement issues

    This paper studies various aspects of the increasing role of private investment in the water services and sanitation (WSS) sector in developing countries. We start by surveying the different types of private sector participation (PSP) in the WSS sector, and the share of public and private responsibilities under each scheme. We then proceed by empirically testing the impact of PSP in the provision of water and sanitation on the average individuals’ welfare with regard to water and sanitation. This paper shows that the private sector has the potential to generate a number of social and environmental benefits for a number of reasons, including its potential to increase efficiency within the sector and increase much-needed levels of investment. Poorer households gain access to affordable services from which they have long been excluded. Furthermore, adverse public health effects of inadequate service provision may be mitigated, and wastewater collection and treatment levels may be increased. The paper also illustrates actual case studies involving PSP in developing countries to present some of the actual improvements that the private sector has already generated, particularly the increased access to water and sanitation, and the rise in water use as suggested by our empirical part.Water demand, public-private partnership, conservation

    Preceding Race Efforts Affect Pacing and Short-Track Speed Skating Performance

    Purpose: To examine whether preceding high-intensity race efforts in a competitive weekend affected pacing behaviour and performance in elite short-track speed skaters. Methods: Finishing and intermediate lap times were gathered from 500, 1000 and 1500 m Short Track Speed Skating World Cups during the seasons 2011-2016. The effect of preceding races on pacing behaviour and performance was explored using two studies. Study I: the effect of competing in extra races due to the Repechage (Rep) system, leading to an increased number of high-intensity race efforts prior to the subsequent main tournament race, was explored (500m: N=32, 1000m: N=34; 1500m: N=47). Study II: the performance of skaters over the tournament days was evaluated (500m: N=129, 1000m: N=54; 1500m: N=114). For both analytic approaches, a two-way repeated measures ANOVA was used to assess differences in pacing and performance within the skater over the races. Results: An additional number of preceding high-intensity race efforts due to the Rep system reduced the qualification percentage in the first main tournament race for the next stage of competition in all events (500m: Direct qualification=57.3%, Rep=25.0%; 1000m: Direct=44.2%, Rep=28.3%; 1500m: Direct=27.1%, Rep=18.2%), and led to a decreased pace in the initial two laps of the 500m event. In contrast, Tournament day (Saturday vs Sunday) only affected the pacing behaviour of female skaters during the 1500m event. Conclusion: High-intensity race efforts earlier on the day affected pacing and performance of elite skaters, while the effect of high-intensity race efforts from the previous day seem to be only marginal

    Accretion-powered chromospheres in classical T Tauri stars

    (Abridged) Optical spectra of classical T Tauri stars (cTTS) are rich in emission lines of low-excitation species that are composed of narrow and broad components, related to two regions with different kinematics, densities, and temperatures. The photospheric spectrum is often veiled by an excess continuous emission. This veiling is usually attributed to radiation from a heated region beneath the accretion shock. The aim of this research is to clarify the nature of the veiling, and whether the narrow chromospheric lines of Fe I and other metals represent a standard chromosphere of a late-type star, or are induced by mass accretion. From high-resolution spectroscopy of DR Tauri we found that the amount of veiling in this star varies from practically nothing to factors more than 10 times the stellar continuum intensity, and that the veiling is caused by both a non-photospheric continuum and chromospheric line emission filling in the photospheric absorption lines. This effect can be shown to exist in several other T Tauri stars. We conclude that enhanced chromospheric emission in cTTS is linked not only to solar-like magnetic activity, but is powered to a greater extent by the accreting gas. We suggest that the area of enhanced chromospheric emission is induced by mass accretion, which modifies the local structure of stellar atmosphere in an area that is more extended than the hot accretion spot. The narrow emission lines from this extended area are responsible for the extra component in the veiling through line-filling of photospheric absorption lines.Comment: 11 pages, 13 figure

    Extending the Real-Time Maude Semantics of Ptolemy to Hierarchical DE Models

    This paper extends our Real-Time Maude formalization of the semantics of flat Ptolemy II discrete-event (DE) models to hierarchical models, including modal models. This is a challenging task that requires combining synchronous fixed-point computations with hierarchical structure. The synthesis of a Real-Time Maude verification model from a Ptolemy II DE model, and the formal verification of the synthesized model in Real-Time Maude, have been integrated into Ptolemy II, enabling a model-engineering process that combines the convenience of Ptolemy II DE modeling and simulation with formal verification in Real-Time Maude.Comment: In Proceedings RTRTS 2010, arXiv:1009.398

    Novel Electron Spectroscopy of Tenuously and Weakly Bound Negative Ions
