Many-Spin Effects and Tunneling Properties of Magnetic Molecules
Spin tunneling in molecular magnets has attracted much attention, however
theoretical considerations of this phenomenon up to now have not taken into
account the many-spin nature of molecular magnets. We present, to our
knowledge, the first successful attempt of a realistic calculation of tunneling
splittings for Mn molecules, thus achieving a quantitatively accurate
many-spin description of a real molecular magnet in the energy interval ranging
from about 100 K down to 10 K. Comparison with the results of the
standard single-spin model shows that many-spin effects affect the tunneling
splittings considerably. The values of ground state splitting given by
single-spin and many-spin models differ from each other by a factor of five.Comment: 3REVTeX pages, 2 figure
Hyperfine interaction induced decoherence of electron spins in quantum dots
We investigate in detail, using both analytical and numerical tools, the
decoherence of electron spins in quantum dots (QDs) coupled to a bath of
nuclear spins in magnetic fields or with various initial bath polarizations,
focusing on the longitudinal relaxation in low and moderate field/polarization
regimes. An increase of the initial polarization of nuclear spin bath has the
same effect on the decoherence process as an increase of the external magnetic
field, namely, the decoherence dynamics changes from smooth decay to damped
oscillations. This change can be observed experimentally for a single QD and
for a double-QD setup. Our results indicate that substantial increase of the
decoherence time requires very large bath polarizations, and the use of other
methods (dynamical decoupling or control of the nuclear spins distribution) may
be more practical for suppressing decoherence of QD-based qubits.Comment: Rev. Tex, 5 pages, 3 eps color figures, submitted to Phys. Rev.
Effect of ligand substitution on the exchange interactions in {Mn12}-type single-molecule magnets
We investigate how the ligand substitution affects the intra-molecular spin
exchange interactions, studying a prototypal family of single-molecule magnets
comprising dodecanuclear cluster molecules [Mn12O12(COOR)16]. We identify a
simple scheme based on accumulated Pauling electronegativity numbers (a.e.n.)
of the carboxylate ligand groups (R). The redistribution of the electron
density, controlled by a.e.n. of a ligand, changes the degree of hybridization
between 3d electrons of manganese and 2p electrons of oxygen atoms, thus
changing the exchange interactions. This scheme, despite its conceptual
simplicity, provides a strong correlation with the exchange energies associated
with carboxylate bridges, and is confirmed by the electronic structure
calculations taking into account the Coulomb correlations in magnetic
molecules.Comment: 18 pages, 1 table, 4 figures. Accepted to "Inorganic Chemistry
Abnormal ECG Findings in Athletes: Clinical Evaluation and Considerations.
PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Pre-participation cardiovascular evaluation with electrocardiography is normal practice for most sporting bodies. Awareness about sudden cardiac death in athletes and recognizing how screening can help identify vulnerable athletes have empowered different sporting disciplines to invest in the wellbeing of their athletes. RECENT FINDINGS: Discerning physiological electrical alterations due to athletic training from those representing cardiac pathology may be challenging. The mode of investigation of affected athletes is dependent on the electrical anomaly and the disease(s) in question. This review will highlight specific pathological ECG patterns that warrant assessment and surveillance, together with an in-depth review of the recommended algorithm for evaluation

Intelligent Systems Research in the Construction Industry
YesWith the increasing complexity of problems in the construction industry, researchers are investigating computationally rigorous intelligent systems with the aim of seeking intelligent solutions. The purpose of this paper is therefore to analyse the research published on ‘intelligent systems in the construction industry’ over the past two decades. This is achieved to observe and understand the historical trends and current patterns in the use of different types of intelligent systems and to exhibit potential directions of further research. Thus, to trace the applications of intelligent systems to research in the construction industry, a profiling approach is employed to analyse 514 publications extracted from the Scopus database. The prime value and uniqueness of this paper lies in analysing and compiling the existing published material by examining variables (such as yearly publications, geographic location of each publication, etc.). This has been achieved by synthesising existing publications using 14 keywords2 ‘Intelligent Systems’, ‘Artificial Intelligence’, ‘Expert Systems’, ‘Fuzzy Systems’, ‘Genetic Algorithms’, ‘Knowledge-Based Systems’, ‘Neural Networks’, ‘Context Aware Applications’, ‘Embedded Systems’, ‘Human–Machine Interface’, ‘Sensing and Multiple Sensor Fusion’, ‘Ubiquitous and Physical Computing’, ‘Case-based Reasoning’ and ‘Construction Industry’. The prime contributions of this research are identified by associating (a) yearly publication and geographic location, (b) yearly publication and the type of intelligent systems employed/discussed, (c) geographic location and the type of research methods employed, and (d) geographic location and the types of intelligent systems employed. These contributions provide a comparison between the two decades and offer insights into the trends in using different intelligent systems types in the construction industry. The analysis presented in this paper has identified intelligent systems studies that have contributed to the development and accumulation of intellectual wealth to the intelligent systems area in the construction industry. This research has implications for researchers, journal editors, practitioners, universities and research institutions. Moreover, it is likely to form the basis and motivation for profiling other database resources and specific types of intelligent systems journals in this area
Ezek a módszerek általában sikeresen növelik a megbocsátásra való hajlandóságot.</o:p
