Predicting Housing Value: A Comparison of Multiple Regression Analysis and Artificial Neural Networks
This paper compares the predictive performance of artificial neural networks (ANN) and multiple regression analysis (MRA) for single family housing sales. Multiple comparisons are made between the two data models in which the data sample size is varied, the funcional specifications is varied, and the temporal prediction is varied. We conclude that ANN performs better than MRA when a moderate to large data sample size is used. For our application, this "moderate to large data sample size" varied from 13% to 39% of the total data sample (506 to 1506 observations out of 3906 total observations). Our results give a plausible explanation why previous papers have obtained varied results when comparing MRA and ANN predictive performance for housing values.
A review of service quality and service delivery: Towards a customer co-production and customer-integration approach

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to provide researchers with an overview of the service quality and delivery domain, focussing on the inclusion of customer co-production and customer integration. Specifically, this paper concentrates on service quality (including quality measurement), the service environment, controls and their consequences. Design/methodology/approach: A comprehensive review of the literature is conducted, analysed and presented. Findings: The review shows that service delivery is both complex and challenging, particularly when considering the unique characteristics of services and the high level of customer involvement in their creation. The facilitation, transformation and usage framework identifies how failures can occur at each stage of service delivery, beginning with the characteristics of the service environment, while control theory offers insights into the formal and informal controls that may be applied in the facilitation and transformation stages, which may reduce the likelihood or extent of such failures. Originality/value: Despite the fact that it is widely accepted that service quality is an antecedent to customer satisfaction, it is surprising that this customer co-creation aspect has been largely neglected in the extant literature. As such, the role that customer co-production plays in service quality performance has been examined in this paper. It is hoped that this examination will enhance both theoretical and practical understanding of service quality. It would be useful to find modern tools that can help in improving service quality performance

The main objective of this Makers Club is to make students excited about STEM and to increase the number of students who are interested in STEM related careers. The newly founded club (NSU-LSMSA Makers Club) emphasizes innovation and hands-on experience for all participants. Furthermore, it promotes building a spirit of teamwork and sharping problem-solving skills. Different teaching modules have been developed and applied. Anisotropic Magneto-Thermopower: the Contribution of Interband Relaxation
Spin injection in metallic normal/ferromagnetic junctions is investigated
taking into account the anisotropic magnetoresistance (AMR) occurring in the
ferromagnetic layer. It is shown, on the basis of a generalized two channel
model, that there is an interface resistance contribution due to anisotropic
scattering, beyond spin accumulation and giant magnetoresistance (GMR). The
corresponding expression of the thermopower is derived and compared with the
expression for the thermopower produced by the GMR. First measurements of
anisotropic magnetothermopower are presented in electrodeposited Ni nanowires
contacted with Ni, Au and Cu. The results of this study show that while the
giant magnetoresistance and corresponding thermopower demonstrates the role of
spin-flip scattering, the observed anisotropic magnetothermopower indicates
interband s-d relaxation mechanisms.Comment: 20 pages, 4 figure
Transcranial optogenetic mapping revealed longitudinal changes in motor maps of ipsi-lesional and contra-lesional cortex following mild traumatic brain injury
poster abstractAbstract: Victims of traumatic brain injury (TBI) suffer short- and long-term
physical, cognitive, behavioral and emotional impairments that depend on the
severity of the injury. Mechanical and cellular alterations in mild TBI can cause
global change in inhibition and excitation on the neuronal network level even in the
absence of histologically significant cell injury. To understand functional changes of
the motor cortex following closed-head mTBI, we applied an optogenetic
stimulation method to map motor cortex activity in channelrhodopsins 2 (ChR2)
transgenic mice. A closed-head mTBI was performed via a cortical impact device
and longitudinal optogenetic mapping of the forelimb areas of the ipsilateral and
contralateral motor cortex were done at multiple time points post injury.
Optogenetically evoked responses were recorded with electromyography (EMG) in
the bicep brachii of the forelimb and with electroencephalography (EEG) in the
brain. The mapping revealed immediate suppression of EMG response of the injured
ipsilateral motor cortex post mTBI, which was then followed by an enhanced
response. The maps also showed a marked increased in the number of responsive
spots in the contralateral motor cortex within the first 12 hours. In addition, rotarod
behavioral test show a decrease in motor response within first two days after mTBI
follows by recovery. In vitro calcium imaging of GCaMP6 cortical slice showed a
decrease in intracellular calcium signal at 2 hours post in injury. These data suggest
that excitable cortical neurons exhibit short-term impairment locally (epsilateral) as
a result of the injury while long-term contralateral hyperexcitability may act as a
functional compensatory mechanism. Our data suggests optogenetic mapping of the
motor cortex is a valuable technique for longitudinal study of brain functions
following mTBI, and that it revealed post-injury hyperexcitability may play an
adaptive role in modifying the functional organization of the cortex in response to
the short-term activity lost. These longitudinal sequelae may underlie posttraumatic
neurological deficits and brain functional recovery

Investigation of a SPR based refractive index sensor using a single mode fiber with a large D shaped microfluidic channel
In this work, a highly sensitive surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor based on a single mode fiber (SMF) incorporating a large microfluidic channel (MFC) for refractive index (RI) sensing is designed and optimized using a full-vectorial finite element method (FEM). The fluidic channel size can be varied according to the requirement due to the availability of the large cladding diameter of SMF, which makes it simple and easy to fabricate. The proposed novel sensor is favourable to both analytes and metallic strips. The D-shaped hollow section above the core is filled with the measurand analytes and a gold (Au) strip is deposited on the base of the MFC, as it is known as the most attractive metal for SPR. Our numerical simulations illustrate that the confinement loss of the designed sensor is highly influenced by the distance of the MFC from the core along with the width and thickness of the Au strip. The designed sensor shows an average sensitivity of 1350 nm/RIU and maximum sensitivity of 8250 nm/RIU in the sensing range of 1.33-1.35 and 1.41-1.43, respectively. However, for a small variation of na at a step of 0.005, within ranges like 1.415, 1.420, and 1.425, we have achieved a maximum sensitivity of 7000 nm/RIU, 9000 nm/RIU and 11000 nm/RIU, respectively. Seamless key agreement framework for mobile-sink in IoT based cloud-centric secured public safety sensor networks
Recently, the Internet of Things (IoT) has emerged as a significant advancement for Internet and mobile networks with various public safety network applications. An important use of IoT-based solutions is its application in post-disaster management, where the traditional telecommunication systems may be either completely or partially damaged. Since enabling technologies have restricted authentication privileges for mobile users, in this paper, a strategy of mobile-sink is introduced for the extension of user authentication over cloud-based environments. A seamless secure authentication and key agreement (S-SAKA) approach using bilinear pairing and elliptic-curve cryptosystems is presented. It is shown that the proposed S-SAKA approach satisfies the security properties, and as well as being resilient to nodecapture attacks, it also resists significant numbers of other well-known potential attacks related with data confidentiality, mutual authentication, session-key agreement, user anonymity, password guessing, and key impersonation. Moreover, the proposed approach can provide a seamless connectivity through authentication over wireless sensor networks to alleviate the computation and communication cost constraints in the system. A systematic review and meta-analyses of pregnancy and fetal outcomes in women with multiple sclerosis: a contribution from the IMI2 ConcePTION project.
Neurologists managing women with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) need information about the safety of disease modifying drugs (DMDs) during pregnancy. However, this knowledge is limited. The present study aims to summarize previous studies by performing a systematic review and meta-analyses. The terms "multiple sclerosis" combined with DMDs of interest and a broad profile for pregnancy terms were used to search Embase and Medline databases to identify relevant studies published from January 2000 to July 2019.1260 studies were identified and ten studies met our inclusion criteria. Pooled risk ratios (RR) of pregnancy and birth outcomes in pregnancies exposed to DMDs compared to those not exposed were calculated using a random effects model. For spontaneous abortion RR = 1.14, 95% CI 0.99-1.32, for preterm births RR = 0.93, 95% CI 0.72-1.21 and for major congenital malformations RR = 0.86, 95% CI 0.47-1.56. The most common major congenital malformations reported in MS patients exposed to MS drugs were atrial septal defect (ASD) (N = 4), polydactyly (N = 4) and club foot (N = 3), which are among the most prevalent birth defects observed in the general population. In conclusion, interferons, glatiramer acetate or natalizumab, do not appear to increase the risk for spontaneous abortions, pre-term birth or major congenital malformations. There were very few patients included that were exposed to fingolimod, azathioprine and rituximab; therefore, these results cannot be generalized across drugs. Future studies including internal comparators are needed to enable treating physicians and their patients to decide on the best treatment options
