Get PDF
A search for the decays B+c→J/ψD(*)0K+ and B+c→J/ψD(*)+K*0 is performed with data collected at the LHCb experiment corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb−1. The decays B+c→J/ψ0K+ and B+c→J/ψD*0K+ are observed for the first time, while first evidence is reported for the B+c→JψD*+K*0 and B+c→J/ψD+K*0 decays. The branching fractions of these decays are determined relative to the B+c→J/ψπ+ decay. The B+c mass is measured, using the J/ψD0K+ final state, to be 6274.28±1.40(stat)±0.32(syst) MeV/c2. This is the most precise single measurement of the B+c mass to date

Identifying SARS-CoV-2 antiviral compounds by screening for small molecule inhibitors of nsp13 helicase

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, which is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), is a global public health challenge. While the efficacy of vaccines against emerging and future virus variants remains unclear, there is a need for therapeutics. Repurposing existing drugs represents a promising and potentially rapid opportunity to find novel antivirals against SARS-CoV-2. The virus encodes at least nine enzymatic activities that are potential drug targets. Here, we have expressed, purified and developed enzymatic assays for SARS-CoV-2 nsp13 helicase, a viral replication protein that is essential for the coronavirus life cycle. We screened a custom chemical library of over 5000 previously characterized pharmaceuticals for nsp13 inhibitors using a fluorescence resonance energy transfer-based high-throughput screening approach. From this, we have identified FPA-124 and several suramin-related compounds as novel inhibitors of nsp13 helicase activity in vitro. We describe the efficacy of these drugs using assays we developed to monitor SARS-CoV-2 growth in Vero E6 cells

The application of informatics in the university system management allows managers to count with a great amount of data which, rationally treated, can offer significant help for the student programming monitoring. This research proposes the use of clustering techniques as a useful tool of management strategy to evaluate the progression of the students’ behavior by dividing the population into homogeneous groups according to their characteristics and skills. These applications can help both the teacher and the student to improve the quality of education. The selected method is the data grouping analysis by means of fuzzy logic using the Fuzzy C-means algorithm to achieve a standard indicator called Grade, through an expert system to enable segmentation.Universidad de la Costa, 2 Universidad Nacional Experimental Politécnica “Antonio José de Sucre”, Universidad Simón Bolívar, Corporación Universitaria Latinoamericana, Corporación Universitaria Minuto de Dios

OBJECTIVE: to investigate the use of religious/spiritual coping among people with cancer undergoing chemotherapy. METHODS: a quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional study of 101 patients undergoing intravenous chemotherapy in an oncology outpatients center in a public hospital in Minas Gerais, made in the first semester of 2011. For data collection, an interview was held, using a questionnaire for characterizing the sample and the Brief Spiritual/Religious Coping Scale. RESULTS: all subjects made use of religious/spiritual coping (mean=3.67; sd=0.37); the younger individuals, those with no religion and those who consider spiritual support unimportant tend to use coping negatively; individuals who would like to receive spiritual support and who participate in support groups for cancer patients, on the other hand, use coping positively. CONCLUSIONS: the study reinforces that religious/spiritual coping is an important strategy for coping with cancer, and contributes to an understanding of the same as a useful tool for spiritual care

A concept for integrated care pathways for atopic dermatitis-A GA2 LEN ADCARE initiative

Get PDF
INTRODUCTION: The integrated care pathways for atopic dermatitis (AD-ICPs) aim to bridge the gap between existing AD treatment evidence-based guidelines and expert opinion based on daily practice by offering a structured multidisciplinary plan for patient management of AD. ICPs have the potential to enhance guideline recommendations by combining interventions and aspects from different guidelines, integrating quality assurance, and describing co-ordination of care. Most importantly, patients can enter the ICPs at any level depending on AD severity, resources available in their country, and economic factors such as differences in insurance reimbursement systems. METHODS: The GA2 LEN ADCARE network and partners as well as all stakeholders, abbreviated as the AD-ICPs working group, were involved in the discussion and preparation of the AD ICPs during a series of subgroup workshops and meetings in years 2020 and 2021, after which the document was circulated within all GAL2 EN ADCARE centres. RESULTS: The AD-ICPs outline the diagnostic procedures, possible co-morbidities, different available treatment options including differential approaches for the pediatric population, and the role of the pharmacists and other stakeholders, as well as remaining unmet needs in the management of AD. CONCLUSION: The AD-ICPs provide a multidisciplinary plan for improved diagnosis, treatment, and patient feedback in AD management, as well as addressing critical unmet needs, including improved access to care, training specialists, implementation of educational programs, assessment on the impact of climate change, and fostering a personalised treatment approach. By focusing on these key areas, the initiative aims to pave the way for a brighter future in the management of AD

Measurement of D s ± production asymmetry in pp collisions at √s=7 and 8 TeV

Get PDF
The inclusive Ds±D_s^{\pm} production asymmetry is measured in pppp collisions collected by the LHCb experiment at centre-of-mass energies of s=7\sqrt{s} =7 and 8 TeV. Promptly produced Ds±D_s^{\pm} mesons are used, which decay as Ds±ϕπ±D_s^{\pm}\to\phi\pi^{\pm}, with ϕK+K\phi\to K^+K^-. The measurement is performed in bins of transverse momentum, pTp_{\rm T}, and rapidity, yy, covering the range 2.5<pT<25.02.5<p_{\rm T}<25.0 GeV/c/c and 2.0<y<4.52.0<y<4.5. No kinematic dependence is observed. Evidence of nonzero Ds±D_s^{\pm} production asymmetry is found with a significance of 3.3 standard deviations.Comment: All figures and tables, along with any supplementary material and additional information, are available at https://cern.ch/lhcbproject/Publications/p/LHCb-PAPER-2018-010.htm

Get PDF
A search for rare B→Dμ+μ− decays is performed using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb−1. No significant signals are observed in the non-resonant μ+μ− modes, and upper limits of B(B0→D ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄0μ+μ−)<5.1×10−8, B(B+→D+sμ+μ−)<3.2×10−8, B(B0s→D ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄0μ+μ−)<1.6×10−7 and fc/fu⋅B(B+c→D+sμ+μ−)<9.6×10−8 are set at the 95\% confidence level, where fc and fu are the fragmentation fractions of a B meson with a c and u quark respectively in proton-proton collisions. Each result is either the first such measurement or an improvement by three orders of magnitude on an existing limit. Separate upper limits are calculated when the muon pair originates from a J/ψ→μ+μ− decay. The branching fraction of B+c→D+sJ/ψ multiplied by the fragmentation-fraction ratio is measured to be fc/fu⋅B(B+c→D+sJ/ψ)=(1.63±0.15±0.13)×10−5, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic
