Face Validation Method Alternatives for Shiphandling Fuzzy Logic Difficulty Model
The development of shiphandling difficulty model for ferry is based on the empirical experience through the Master of Ro-Ro ferries. The SHDMF is consisted from two parts which are the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Fuzzy Inference System. Both parts had been validated through internal validation in the form of consistency test for the first part and robustness test for the second part. Further, the external/face validation is required to compare the proposed model with similar model through benchmarking approach. The benchmarking approaches are elaborated for the reliability, validity, possibility, efficiency and effectiveness. Through fuzzy group decision making method, the questionnaire survey is performed to verify the most appropriate approach based on the shiphandling simulator as the most preferred benchmarking tool by experts. Next, the proposed scenario is overviewed and discussed especially related to the advantages and drawbacks of shiphandling simulator. Marcus Garvey: A Legacy Obscured by Infamy
Marcus Garvey was a 20th century Jamaican civil rights leader. Garvey is noted for founding the Universal Negro Improvement Association in an effort to promote black pride as well as establish black economic independence through the creation of negro owned businesses. Despite the contributions he made to civil rights efforts, much of Garvey’s career was shrouded in controversy. Drawing on primary sources including letters written by Garvey and articles written by the foremost thinkers of the NAACP, this papers examines the numerous professional scandals in Garvey’s life, specifically his ties to white supremacy, poor relationships with other civil rights leaders, and his business failures
Review of sustainability in buildings
At present, it is estimated that the building sector contributes up to 45% of annual greenhouse gas emissions primarily through the use of fossil fuels during their operational phase and consumes up to 40% of all energy in UK. Given the massive growth in new construction in economies in transition, and the inefficiencies of existing building stock, if nothing is done, greenhouse gas emissions from buildings will be more than double in the next 20 years. This is a review paper describe the extent and nature of sustainable buildings in UK, either within new or refurbishing old ones, in order to move away from traditional methods of construction and to look at multi-disciplinary and integrated approaches, as well as end-user perspectives
Comparison of Artificial Neural Networks and Autoregressive Model to Forecast Inflows to Roseires Reservoir for better Prediction of Irrigation Water Supply in the Sudan
The Blue Nile River is utilized in Sudan as the main source of irrigation water. However, the river has a long, dry, low-flow season (October–May), which necessitates the use of regulations and rules to manage its water use during this period. This depends on the use of accurate lead time forecasts of inflows to the reservoirs built along the river. Thus a reliable and tested forecasting tool is needed to provide inflow forecast, with sufficient lead time. In the present study, artificial neural network (ANN) is used to model the recession curve of the flow hydrograph at El-Deim gauging station, which subsequently is used as inflows to the Roseires Reservoir on the Blue Nile River. Different scenarios of ANN have been tested to forecast 23 10-day mean discharges during the recession period and their performances were assessed. Results from the optimal ANN model were compared to those simulated with an autoregressive (AR1) model to check their accuracy. Modelling results showed that the ANN model developed is capable of accurately forecasting the inflows to the Roseires Reservoir and outperforms the AR1 model. It has then proposed for use in operation of the reservoir for purposes of predicting irrigation water supply
New Digital Image Encryption Scheme based on Elliptic Curve Isogenies
Due to the complexity of modern technological exchanges, the need of the security of the image remains till now a challenging problems. In this paper, we present a new encryption scheme based on a non-classical aspect of the elliptic curve cryptography and the Ramanujan graph to encrypt JPEG compressed image. Our algorithm operates on the hardness to predict the exact walk of the Pizer graph formed by the elliptic curve isogenies. The proposed approach has been compared with classical protocols
The Spinning Particles as a Nonlinear Realizations of the Superworldline Reparametrization Invariance
The superdiffeomorphisms invariant description of - extended spinning
particle is constructed in the framework of nonlinear realizations approach.
The action is universal for all values of and describes the time evolution
of different group elements of the superdiffeomorphisms group of the
superspace. The form of this action coincides with the one-dimensional
version of the gravity action, analogous to Trautman's one.Comment: 4 pages, RevTe
Camera oscillation pattern for VSLAM: translational versus rotational
Visual SLAM algorithms exploit natural scene features to infer the camera motion and build a map of the environment landmarks. SLAM algorithm has two interrelated processes localization and mapping. For accurate localization, we need the features location estimates to converge quickly. On the other hand, to build an accurate map, we need accurate localization. Recently, a biologically inspired approach exploits deliberate camera oscillation has been used to improve the convergence speed of depth estimate. In this paper, we explore the effect of camera oscillation pattern on the accuracy of VSLAM. Two main oscillation patterns are used for distance estimation: translational and rotational. Experiments, using static and moving robot, are made to explore the effect of these oscillation patterns on the VSLAM performance
Dynamic feature detection using virtual correction and camera oscillations
Visual SLAM algorithms exploit natural scene features to infer the camera motion and build a map of a static environment. In this paper, we relax the severe assumption of a static scene to allow for the detection and deletion of dynamic points. A new "virtual correction" method is introduced which serves to detect the dynamic points by checking the re-projection error of the points before and after the virtual measurement update. It can also recover the erroneously excluded useful features, particularly the distant points which may be deleted because of the change in its position after new measurement observation. Deliberate camera oscillations are also used to improve the VSLAM accuracy and the camera observability. The simulation results showed the effectiveness of the virtual correction when combined with camera oscillation in recovering the misclassified features and detecting the dynamic features even in difficult scenarios
Assessment of Water Harvesting System for a Smart Building Considering Climate Change
With climate change now a reality rather than speculated possibility, the future change of rainfall pattern will affect the demand for potable water. Forth coming regulatory changes will mean that over 90% of UK homes will have their water usage metered, making consumers more and more aware of how expensive the commodity of "common or garden" water has become. In this paper the design of different rainwater harvesting systems (RWH) is evaluated for three residential properties of different roof areas. The design considered climate change effect and change in future rainfall for three periods 2020s, 2050s and 2080s under the high (AIFI) and low (B1) SRES scenarios in NW of England. The RWH systems were shown to fulfill between 25% and 85% of WC, washing machine and outdoor use demand making the system more valuable as a sustainable solution
Synthesis of 3-indolylazoles and meridianin derivatives from indolyl enaminonitriles
The reaction of indole derivatives with cyanoacetic acid followed by treatment with DMFDMA gave the intermediate indolyl enaminonitriles (3). Further reaction with aminoguanidine yielded 5´-cyanomeridianin analogues (4). The same intermediate reacted with p-methoxyphenylhydrazine to give the pyrazolyl derivative (8).
Treatment of (2E)-3-dimethylamino-2-(1H-indol-3-yl)-propenoate (3a) with hydroxylamine hydrochloride in basic medium afforded (5-amino-isoxazol-4-yl)-(1H-indol-3-yl)-methanone (5) and the acrylic acid derivative (6) after a short or a long heating, respectively. Unequivocal structural elucidation of the latter compound was achieved from single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies.Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) - SFRH/BPD/31490/2006FEDER - REEQ/ 630/QUI/200
