    Get PDF
Due to the limited energy and the non-equivalence of wireless sensor network nodes, it is imperative to reduce and rationally use the energy consumption of the nodes to prolong the network lifetime. In this project, a random multi-hop routing approach for wireless sensor networks was modeled and simulated. In order to minimize energy consumption and improve the network lifetime, the simulated protocol depends on the selection of specific sensor nodes to be cluster header for the wireless sensor nodes which receive the packets from other normal sensor nodes randomly and then send it to a base station or Sink. This project classifies the network into two sizes, large size and small size and does compression between both networks when applying this protocol in order to assist the improvement of these networks. Simulation results showed improvement when the network size is changed from a large size to a small size. The lifetime is improved by about 76% that means the number of the round is increased from 80 -333, as well as the end to end delay, is improved around 30% from 180 ns – 280 ns to 100 ns – 170 ns. While for throughput, it is improved 85% from 5x106 bits to 2.5x107 bits. The packet loss also showed the improvement from 12000 to 2500 which means the improvement is about 20.83%. Lastly, the residual energy is improved by 73% approximately 3200 s (1200 s ~ 4400)

The Hajj 2015 shows a significance flashpoint of the long-term history of tension between Tehran (Iran) and Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) regarding the Hajj: Iran and Saudi Arabiaexchanged the accusation of standing behind the tragedy of Hajj stampede in Minna SaudiArabia, 2015. Printed media is the crucial for ideology production; this study focuses on therepresentation of the Iran-Saudi conflict on Hajj stampede 2015 in two newspapers, namely theArab News and the Tehran Times newspapers. The study uses a critical discourse analysis, mainly macrostructures analysis by Van Dijk (1980 & 1983). Three texts have been chosenfrom each newspaper and the macro-rules (selection, deletion, generalization, andconstruction) have been used to decrease the information in the micro-level yielding macropropositions in the macro-level; the global topics/themes of the discourse. Ten macrostructuresin the second level of analysis were identified from the Arab News newspaper out of 30 macropropositions in the first level and 21 macrostructures in the second level of analysis out of 43 inthe first level of analysis from the Tehran Times newspaper. The results showed that the Tehran Times newspaper has represented Saudi Arabia more negatively by 66.7% than the Arab Newswhich represented Iran negatively by 50% of the total texts. This indicates the ideologicalsignificance boundary between the ‘us’ and ‘them’ in both newspapers. In addition, the resultsshowed that there is an Islamic ideological competition for taking the Islamic leadershipbetween the Shi’a ideology of Iran and the Sunni Wahabi of Saudi Arabia in the Middle Eastand the Arab World. The study suggested that the discourse of Hajj must be separated from thepolitical discourse between Iran and Saudi Arabia because whenever there is a politicaltension there is a Hajj conflict

Exploratory Study of the Privacy Extension for System Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA-Priv) to elicit Privacy Risks in eHealth

Context: System Theoretic Process Analysis for Privacy (STPA-Priv) is a novel privacy risk elicitation method using a top down approach. It has not gotten very much attention but may offer a convenient structured approach and generation of additional artifacts compared to other methods. Aim: The aim of this exploratory study is to find out what benefits the privacy risk elicitation method STPA-Priv has and to explain how the method can be used. Method: Therefore we apply STPA-Priv to a real world health scenario that involves a smart glucose measurement device used by children. Different kinds of data from the smart device including location data should be shared with the parents, physicians, and urban planners. This makes it a sociotechnical system that offers adequate and complex privacy risks to be found. Results: We find out that STPA-Priv is a structured method for privacy analysis and finds complex privacy risks. The method is supported by a tool called XSTAMPP which makes the analysis and its results more profound. Additionally, we learn that an iterative application of the steps might be necessary to find more privacy risks when more information about the system is available later. Conclusions: STPA-Priv helps to identify complex privacy risks that are derived from sociotechnical interactions in a system. It also outputs privacy constraints that are to be enforced by the system to ensure privacy.Comment: author's post-prin

On the role of oral feedback in ESL postgraduate thesis writing supervision

    Get PDF
The provision of oral feedback to ESL students at the postgraduate level plays an interventionist role in their development as writers. It is through such feedback that the students are expected to be guided towards achieving their writing goals. Supervisors provide written feedback and this is usually supported with oral feedback which appears to play a crucial role in the supervision process in that it helps in the formation of scholarly identities, scaffolds students' academic writing and learning, fosters autonomy, equality, and learning skills among ESL learners, develops students' dialogical skills, helps students focus on their research, and guides them to conform with dissertation/thesis writing. However, ESL students' own cultural background and social circumstances may affect the efficacy of the oral feedback process. Some limitations of existing studies are discussed and key directions for future research on the role of oral feedback in ESL postgraduate supervision settings are suggested

The Hajj of 2015 showed a significance flashpoint of the long-term history of tension between Tehran (Iran) and Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). Iran and Saudi Arabia exchanged the accusation of standing behind the tragedy of Hajj stampede in Minna, Saudi Arabia. The representation of the tension in the media becomes the focus of the present study, which examines the representation of the Iran-Saudi conflict on Hajj stampede of 2015 in two newspapers, namely the Arab News and the Tehran Times. More specifically, this study examines (1) how the Iran-Saudi conflict regarding the Mina Hajj Stampede of 2015 is represented in the Arab News newspaper, (2) how the Iran-Saudi conflict regarding the Mina Hajj Stampede of 2015 is represented in the Tehran Times newspaper, and (3) the ways in which the Islamic ideological competition between Iran and Saudi Arabia for taking the Islamic leadership in the Arabic world is represented in the Arab News and Tehran Times newspapers regarding Mina Hajj Stampede of 2015. This study uses Critical Discourse Analysis as the main framework, focusing on the analysis of macrostructures developed by Van Dijk (1977, 1980, and 1983). Three texts have been chosen from each newspaper and the macro-rules (selection, deletion, generalization, and construction) have been applied to reduce the information in the micro-level into macro-propositions in the macro-level or the global topics/themes of the discourse. The results show that the Tehran Times newspaper has represented Saudi Arabia more negatively by 66.7% than the Arab News, which represented Iran negatively by 50% of the total texts. This indicates the ideological boundary between ‘US’ and ‘THEM’ in both newspapers. In addition, the results show that there is an Islamic ideological competition for taking the Islamic leadership between the Shi’a ideology of Iran and the Sunni Wahabi of Saudi Arabia in the Middle East and the Arab World. The study suggests that the discourse of Hajj be separated from the political discourse between Iran and Saudi Arabia because whenever there is a political tension, a Hajj conflict tends to occur

NoIn this paper, a compact microstrip band-pass filter (BPF) covering the 3.4 to 3.8 GHz spectrum bandwidth for 5G wireless communications is presented. The planar filter uses three resonators, each terminated by a via to hole ground at one end and a capacitor at the other end with 50 Ω transmission line impedances for input and output terminals. The coupling between the lines is adjusted to resonate at the centre frequency with third-order band-pass Butterworth properties. The proposed combline filter is designed on an alumina substrate with a relative dielectric constant of 9.8 and a very small size of 9×5×1.2 mm3. The proposed filter is simulated and optimized using CST microwave studio software.European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement H2020-MSCA-ITN-2016 SECRET-722424, UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) under grant EP/E022936/
