Suffragettes of the empire, daughters of the republic: women auto/biographers narrate national history (1918-1935)
AbstractThis paper explores modes of autobiographical writing by female authors in the early republican period. Women's autobiographies draw a strict distinction between the narration of the private and the public self, as they promote the narration of the undomestic, professional self at the expense of the private. Ironically, even if the autobiographers in question were politically active in suffrage, women's autobiographies either do not represent the authors' involvement in such campaigns, or praise state feminism for granting emancipation. “Personal is political” only becomes a maxim for a later generation of women writers, with autobiographies and autobiographical novels of the post-1970 period underscoring the importance of exploring the subjectivity of the adult woman/narrator. More recent examples of auto/biographical writing blur the boundaries between private and public and narrate gendered accounts of republican history.</jats:p
Gabor Filter and Rough Clustering Based Edge Detection
This paper introduces an efficient edge detection method based on Gabor
filter and rough clustering. The input image is smoothed by Gabor function, and
the concept of rough clustering is used to focus on edge detection with soft
computational approach. Hysteresis thresholding is used to get the actual
output, i.e. edges of the input image. To show the effectiveness, the proposed
technique is compared with some other edge detection methods.Comment: Proc. IEEE Conf. #30853, International Conference on Human Computer

Gauge Approach to The Symmetric Teleparallel Gravity
We discuss a gauge invariant gravity model in a non-Riemannian geometry in
which the curvature and the torsion both are zero, the nonmetricity is nonzero.
We also argue that only a metric ansatz is enough to start finding solutions to
the field equations. As an application we obtain explicitly a conformally flat
solution.Comment: This is the improved version of our manuscript arXiv:0810.2388v1. To

Lagrange formulation of the symmetric teleparallel gravity
We develop a symmetric teleparallel gravity model in a space-time with only
the non-metricity is nonzero, in terms of a Lagrangian quadratic in the
non-metricity tensor. We present a detailed discussion of the variations that
may be used for any gravitational formulation. We seek Schwarzschild-type
solutions because of its observational significance and obtain a class of
solutions that includes Schwarzschild-type, Schwarzschild-de Sitter-type and
Reissner-Nordstr\"{o}m-type solutions for certain values of the parameters. We
also discuss the physical relevance of these solutions.Comment: Corrected typos, Accepted for publication in IJMP-
Non-minimal -type corrections to holographic superconductor
We study -dimensional holographic superconductors in the presence of
non-minimally coupled electromagnetic field to gravity by considering an
arbitrary linear combination of -type invariants with three parameters.
Our analytical analysis shows that the non-minimal couplings affect the
condensate and the critical temperature.Comment: Accepted for publication in Modern Physics Letters
Unsupervised Text Extraction from G-Maps
This paper represents an text extraction method from Google maps, GIS
maps/images. Due to an unsupervised approach there is no requirement of any
prior knowledge or training set about the textual and non-textual parts. Fuzzy
CMeans clustering technique is used for image segmentation and Prewitt method
is used to detect the edges. Connected component analysis and gridding
technique enhance the correctness of the results. The proposed method reaches
98.5% accuracy level on the basis of experimental data sets.Comment: Proc. IEEE Conf. #30853, International Conference on Human Computer
