    Development of atmospheric pressure ionization ion mobility spectrometry and ion mobility spectrometry mass spectrometry

    This study is focused on the development and evaluation of ion mobility instrumentation with various atmospheric pressure ionization techniques and includes the following work. First, a high-resolution drift tube ion mobility spectrometer (IMS), coupled with a commercial triple quadrupole mass spectrometer (MS), was developed. This drift tube IMS is compatible with the front-end of commercial Sciex mass spectrometers (e.g., Sciex API-300, 365, and 3000) and also allows easy (only minor modifications are needed) installation between the original atmospheric pressure ion source and the triple quadrupole mass spectrometer. Performance haracteristics (e.g.,resolving power, detection limit, transmission efficiency of ions) of this IMS-MS instrument were evaluated. Development of the IMS-MS instrument also led to a study where a proposal was made that tetraalkylammonium ions can be used as chemical standards for ESI-IMS. Second, the same drift tube design was also used to build a standalone ion mobility spectrometer equipped with a Faraday plate detector. For this highresolution (resolving power about 100 shown) IMS device, a multi-ion source platform was built, which allows the use of a range of atmospheric pressure ionization methods, such as: corona discharge chemical ionization (CD-APCI), atmospheric pressure photoionization (APPI), and radioactive atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (R-APCI). The multi-ion source platform provides easy switching between ionization methods and both positive and negative ionization modes can be used. Third, a simple desorpion/ionization on silicon (DIOS) ion source set-up for use with the developed IMS and IMS-MS instruments was built and its operation demonstrated. Fourth, a prototype of a commercial aspiration-type ion mobility spectrometer was mounted in front of a commercial triple quadrupole mass spectrometer. The set-up, which is simple, easy to install, and requires no major modifications to the MS, provides the possibility of gathering fundamental information about aspiration mobility spectrometry.Not available

    A Renormalization Group For Treating 2D Coupled Arrays of Continuum 1D Systems

    We study the spectrum of two dimensional coupled arrays of continuum one-dimensional systems by wedding a density matrix renormalization group procedure to a renormalization group improved truncated spectrum approach. To illustrate the approach we study the spectrum of large arrays of coupled quantum Ising chains. We demonstrate explicitly that the method can treat the various regimes of chains, in particular the three dimensional Ising ordering transition the chains undergo as a function of interchain coupling.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure

    A Numerical Renormalization Group for Continuum One-Dimensional Systems

    We present a renormalization group (RG) procedure which works naturally on a wide class of interacting one-dimension models based on perturbed (possibly strongly) continuum conformal and integrable models. This procedure integrates Kenneth Wilson's numerical renormalization group with Al. B. Zamolodchikov's truncated conformal spectrum approach. Key to the method is that such theories provide a set of completely understood eigenstates for which matrix elements can be exactly computed. In this procedure the RG flow of physical observables can be studied both numerically and analytically. To demonstrate the approach, we study the spectrum of a pair of coupled quantum Ising chains and correlation functions in a single quantum Ising chain in the presence of a magnetic field.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

    Excited State Contributions to the Heavy Baryon Fragmentation Functions in a Quark-Diquark Model

    Spin dependent fragmentation functions for heavy flavor quarks to fragment into heavy baryons are calculated in a quark-diquark model. The production of intermediate spin 1/2 and 3/2 excited states is explicity included. The resulting Λb\Lambda_b production rate and polarization at LEP energies are in agreement with experiment. The Λc\Lambda_c and Ξc\Xi_c functions are also obtained. The spin independent f1(z)f_1(z) is compared to data. The integrated values for production rates agree with the data

    Comparison of PUFA profiles in the blood and in follicular fluid and its association with follicular dynamics after PGF2α induced luteolysis in dairy cows

    The objectives of the present study were to examine the fatty acid (FA) profiles in serum and in the follicular fluid (FF) and the association between polyunsaturated fatty acid level (PUFA) and follicular growth dynamics following induced luteolysis in dairy cows. A total of 29 dairy cows (CL>25mm, follicle approximate to 15mm) at d0 (start of the experiment) were submitted to ultrasound guided transvaginal follicular aspiration for FF collection from the largest follicle and were injected with 500 mu g of cloprostenol. The cows were subdivided into Group A1 (n=11) and Group A2 (n=8) resuming follicular growth either from a secondary follicle less than or larger than 8.5mm, respectively, present at the moment of aspiration and Group A0 (n=10) not resuming follicular growth. Follicular development was monitored daily by ultrasonography until the next dominant follicle reached approximate to 15mm and was subsequently punctured in Group A1 and A2 (d1). Serum and FF samples for FA determination were taken at d0 from all cows and at d1 in Group A1 and A2. No differences were observed between the FA profile in serum nor in FF between sampling days. Regarding the PUFA levels, the serum linoleic acid (C18:2n6) levels at d0 and d1 were significantly higher than in FF, while alpha linolenic acid (C18:3n3) was lower in the serum than in FF, both at d0 and d1. At d0, a tendency for negative correlation between serum and the FF C18:2n6 with subsequent daily follicular growth rate was observed, while, at d1 there was a strong negative correlation between the serum C18:2n6 and daily growth rate (r=-0.71; p=0.0006). The present study revealed similarities of the FA profiles in the serum and in the FF and association between serum and FF PUFA content with the follicular dynamics after induced luteolysis

    Omega_{ccc} production via fragmentation at LHC

    In the framework of the leading order of perturbative QCD and the nonrelativistic quark-diquark model of baryons we have obtained fragmentation function for c-quark to split into Omega_{ccc} baryon. It is shown that at LHC one can expect 3.5 10^3 events with Omega_{ccc} at p_t>5 GeV/c and -1<y<1 per year.Comment: LaTex, 5 pages and 2 figures.     Production of four-quark states with double heavy quarks at LHC

    We study the hadronic production of four-quark states with double heavy quarks and double light antiquarks at LHC. The production mechanism is that a color anti-triplet diquark cluster consisting of double heavy quarks is formed first from the produced double heavy quark-antiquark pairs via gggg fusion hard process, followed by the fragmentation of the diquark cluster into a four-quark (tetraquark) state. Predictions for the production cross sections and their differential distributions are presented. Our results show that it is quite promising to discover these tetraquark states in LHC experiments both for large number events and for their unique signatures in detectors.Comment: 17 pages,8 figure

    Continuous Neel to Bloch Transition as Thickness Increases: Statics and Dynamics

    We analyze the properties of Neel and Bloch domain walls as a function of film thickness h, for systems where, in addition to exchange, the dipole-dipole interaction must be included. The Neel to Bloch phase transition is found to be a second order transition at hc, mediated by a single unstable mode that corresponds to oscillatory motion of the domain wall center. A uniform out-of-plane rf-field couples strongly to this critical mode only in the Neel phase. An analytical Landau theory shows that the critical mode frequency varies as the square root of (hc - h) just below the transition, as found numerically.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

    Development prospects of the transport infrastructure of Russia in the conditions of development of the market of transport and logistic services

    The paper is devoted to a critical analysis of the current state and development prospects of the transport infrastructure of the Russian Federation in the context of transport and logistics services. The share of through haulage in the total volume of export-import transactions has been estimated. At the same time, the right choice of methods of scientific research directly affects the success of solving the scientific problem, where the main feature of the modern economy is the transition from managing objects to managing flows. The main objective is to identify the problems of functioning of transport and transport infrastructure in the context of the largest "players" in the investment market of Russia, in the development of a competitive transport and logistics system of the state and its regions based on integration and innovative logistics technologies of the main participants in the supply chain operating in the Russian regions as well as corridors passing through the territory of Russia. These trends can be traced both in theoretical studies and in the practice of carrying out entrepreneurial activities. We use empirical methods of comparison, measurement, description, interpretation; theoretical methods of formal and dialectical logic. Working in difficult conditions, Russia should become a basic transport and logistics center. It needs to improve its logistics infrastructure and technologies for logistics organization, reducing costs within supply chains by optimizing customs clearance processes and eliminating legislative barriers. Conclusions: transport development should be developed not as a set of individual elements in the form of transport, transport infrastructure, and transport corridors, but as a single transport and logistics network.peer-reviewe

    Interaction effects on magnetooscillations in a two-dimensional electron gas

    Motivated by recent experiments, we study the interaction corrections to the damping of magnetooscillations in a two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG). We identify leading contributions to the interaction-induced damping which are induced by corrections to the effective mass and quantum scattering time. The damping factor is calculated for Coulomb and short-range interaction in the whole range of temperatures, from the ballistic to the diffusive regime. It is shown that the dominant effect is that of the renormalization of the effective electron mass due to the interplay of the interaction and impurity scattering. The results are relevant to the analysis of experiments on magnetooscillations (in particular, for extracting the value of the effective mass) and are expected to be useful for understanding the physics of a high-mobility 2DEG near the apparent metal-insulator transition.Comment: 24 pages; subsection adde
