Levothyroxine effects on depressive symptoms and limbic glucose metabolism in bipolar disorder: a randomized, placebo-controlled positron emission tomography study.
Adding supraphysiologic doses of levothyroxine (L-T4) to standard treatment for bipolar depression shows promise, but the mechanisms underlying clinical improvement are unknown. In a previous pilot study, L-T4 treatment reduced depression scores and activity within the anterior limbic network. Here we extended this work in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study of patients with bipolar depression. Cerebral glucose metabolism was assessed with positron emission tomography and [F-18]fluorodeoxyglucose before and after 6 weeks of treatment with L-T4 (n=15) or placebo (n=10) in 12 volumes of interest (VOIs): the bilateral thalamus, amygdala, hippocampus, dorsal striatum and ventral striatum, and midline cerebellar vermis and subgenual cingulate cortex. Radioactivity in the VOIs, normalized to whole-brain radioactivity was taken as a surrogate index of glucose metabolism, and markers of thyroid function were assayed. Changes in brain activity and their association with clinical response were assessed using statistical parametric mapping. Adjunctive L-T4 treatment produced a significant decline in depression scores during the 6-week treatment. In patients treated with L-T4, we found a significant decrease in regional activity at P<0.05 after Bonferroni correction in the left thalamus, right amygdala, right hippocampus, left ventral striatum and the right dorsal striatum. Decreases in the left thalamus, left dorsal striatum and the subgenual cingulate were correlated with a reduction in depression scores (P<0.05 after Bonferroni correction). Placebo treatment was associated with a significant decrease in activity only in the right amygdala, and no region had a change in activity that was correlated with change in depression scores. The groups differed significantly in the relationship between the changes in depression scores and in activity in the thalamus bilaterally and the left ventral striatum. The findings provide evidence that administration of supraphysiologic thyroid hormone improves depressive symptoms in patients with bipolar disorder by modulating function in components of the anterior limbic network

This research was carried out among University Students of Riau. In order to determine the behavior of online gambling among college students. Problems in this study are (1) Who are the students who conduct online gambling activities? (2) What are the factors that encourage students to conduct online gambling? (3) What is the impact of online gambling on college student activity after online gambling addiction or gambling? This research is a qualitative descriptive ,. As for the population in this study is Riau University student who engages in gambling online. Because the number of students who perform online gambling is not known, in this study the authors in the sampling technique used non probability that Snowball Sampling technique by determining one or two informants to be interviewed further from previous informant informant further information. This will continue until the time when the informant is sufficient. To collect the data the researchers used the method of observation, documentation, and in-depth interviews using interview guideline in analyzing the research data used in the analysis of qualitative and described in descriptive writing.Based on the results of this study concluded that online gambling behaviors among university students in this study is Riau students aged 21-25 years.Based on the results of this study concluded that online gambling behaviors among students that is caused by factors, factors lax parental control, profit factor, the desire and the entertainment factor. And the impact of the behavior of online gambling is that health impacts, reduce the spirit of learning, economic, personality and lead to deviant behavior like that is lying, pawning goods as well as the positive impact of online gambling is that as entertainment.Keywords: Behavior of online gambling, among student
Pelaksanaan Sistem Kaderisasi Partai Golkar di Kota Pekanbarun Tahun 2011-2013
This research is motivated by lex number 2 of 2011 about politic party, containing about forming of cadres as one of prereqruiment to legal politic party. Golkar Party is mass party and has 30 years on Indonesian politic. Party Golkar dominate has spread to all Indonesian region. However, in recent years a decline in the number of cadres, specially in Pekanbaru City.This qualitative research with indepht interview and documentation as data collection techniques. This research armed to explain forming of cadres implementate on Golkar Party in Pekanbaru 2011-2013. The theory used Political Party theory, Political education and forming of cadres system. Forming of cadres system is necessary for Political Party, cause forming or cadres is process to made human resources to be responsible leader.The result is, Golkar Party in Pekanbaru has not be able to implement forming of cadres as well. In 2011-2013, Golkar Party in Pekanbaru only do one education and training in 2013, that is orientation of fungsionaris. Education and traning carrie out least once a year. Consolidation is other of forming of cadres activity. Consolidation is also held once on 2012, which is this activity not appropriate to the concept. Gedung Kuliah Kedokteran Hewan Kampus II Universitas Brawijaya Dengan Konsep Bioklimatik
Kota Malang merupakan kota dengan iklim tropis lembab dengan udara yang sejuk karena terletak pada dataran tinggi. Potensi geografis dan iklim yang baik di Kota Malang mengakibatkan pertambahan jumlah penduduk setiap tahun secara pesat sehingga hal ini menyebabkan meningkatnya kebutuhan bangunan komersial dan non komersial. Kondisi ini menyebabkan ruang terbuka hijau menjadi berkurang dan menyebabkan peningkatan suhu serta Perubahan iklim mikro setempat. Kota Malang memiliki banyak institusi ternama, salah satunya Universitas Brawijaya yang memiliki jumlah mahasiswa sangat padat. Terkait banyaknya jumlah mahasiswa dan pertimbangan aspek lingkungan UB akan menerapkan konsep green campus. Berdasarkan permasalahan tersebut diperlukan alternative bangunan yang sesuai fungsi yang ditetapkan yaitu gedung kuliah kedokteran hewan dengan pertimbangan iklim dan Kenyamanan bagi penggunanya dengan konsep bioklimatik. Konsep green campus berkaitan dengan kriteria bioklimatik di antaranya orientasi, bukaan jendela, desain dinding, pembayang pasif, lansekap, open plan, dan ruang transisi. Metode perancangan yang digunakan ialah metode programatik dan pragmatik. Sedangkan analisis dan sintesis dilakukan dengan metode programatik. Hasil yang diperoleh yaitu aplikasi konsep bioklimatik pada bangunan berperan menurunkan suhu ruangan dan mampu mengatur pencahayaan alami secara efektif sehingga dapat menciptakan Kenyamanan termal dan visual bagi pengguna bangunan
Kajian Abu Vulkanik Gunung Kelud Sebagai Alternatif Bahan Penyusun Batako Berlubang
Abu vulkanik Gunung Kelud adalah abu yang dihasilkan oleh letusan Gunung Kelud yang kemudian terbang ke segala arah sesuai dengan arah hembusan angin. Keberadaan abu vulkanik ini dianggap sebagai limbah yang dapat mencemari lingkungan dan mengganggu masyarakat sekitar. Untuk mengatasi hal itu maka dilakukan pengkajian untuk memanfaatkan material abu vulkanik. Abu vulkanik dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan pengganti pasir karena bersifat pozzolan dan dilihat dari ukuran butir yang memiliki kandungan silika yang relatif tinggi. Abu vulkanik pada penelitian ini akan digunakan sebagai pengganti sebagian pasir dalam pembuatan batako berlubang. Batako merupakan salah satu alternatif bahan dinding yang murah dan relatif kuat yang terbuat dari campuran pasir, semen dan air. Pengujian dilakukan dengan membuat benda uji batako dengan campuran pasir, semen dan abu vulkanik dengan variasi prosentasi pasir dan abu vulkanik. Kemudian dilakukan uji penyerapan air dan kuat tekan untuk mengetahui penyerapan air dan kuat tekan batako serta pengaruh dari penggunaan abu vulkanik. Penelitian ini menggunakan 15 buah benda uji dengan persentase abu vulkanik didalamnya sebesar 0%, 25% dan 50%, untuk masing-masing perlakuan dibuat 5 benda uji. Dari hasil pengujian penyerapan air dan kuat tekan didapatkan hasil bahwa abu vulkanik gunung kelud dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai pengganti sebagian pasir. Berdasarkan syarat dari SNI 03-0349, secara keseluruhan penyerapan air pada batako memenuhi standar penyerapan maksimal yaitu 25%. Untuk pengujian kuat tekan semua benda uji memenuhi SNI, komposisi abu vulkanik Gunung Kelud sebesar 0% dan 25% tergolong dalam mutu I, sedangkan komposisi abu vulkanik Gunung Kelud sebesar 50% tergolong dalam mutu III, sehingga dari penelitian ini dapat diambil kesimpulan bahwa abu vulkanik Gunung Kelud dapat digunakan sebagai alternatif bahan pengganti sebagian pasir pada pembuatan batako

RISK & RESCUING ISSUE: OUTDOOR ADVENTURE ACCIDENTS IN PROTECTED AREAS OF GUNUNG LEDANG, JOHOR NATIONAL PARK, MALAYSIA
This paper presents a study on outdoor recreational risk factors at Johor National Park of Gunung Ledang. It located at Southern of Malaysia and consists by tropical rainforest. The biodiversity richness and the wilderness of the natural resources has become attraction for local and international tourists to visit this national park to enjoying their outdoor recreational activities. But they are exposed with the risks and hazard in the wilderness tropical rainforest and the rescuing process for the victims is difficult too. This case study data collected using semi structured interviews conducted towards the National Park Managers from each study sites. The data analyzed using NVivo 11 version. As findings, the storm seems as the main outdoor recreational risk factors identified at this national park that may cause falling tree cases in this national park. Secondly, if the accident occurs at the deep forest, the rescuing assistance procedure for the victims is very difficult and takes time to reach the accident location. As conclusion, extreme recreationists were highly expose with outdoor recreational risks in outdoor nature wilderness settings and national park operator should look into this risk issue seriously in order to ensure the visitors’ safety during their visitation to the national parks. Highly recommended, for national park operator to have a look on the necessity of helipad installation at the risky areas of national park to smoothen the rescuing process for the victims in the wilderness areas
