Genomic Organization, Splice Variants and Expression of CGMl, a CD66-related Member of the Carcinoembryonic Antigen Gene Family

    Get PDF
The tumor marker carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) belongs to a family of proteins which are composed of one immunogiobulin variable domain and a varying number of immunoglobulin constant-like domains. Most of the membrane-bound members, which are anchored either by a glycosylphosphatidylinositol moiety or a transmembrane domain, have been shown to convey cell adhesion in vitro. Here we describe two splice variants of CGMI. a transmembrane member of the CEA family without immunoglobulin constant.like domains. CGM1a and CGM1c contain cytopiasmic domains of 71 and 31 amino acids, respectively, The cytoplasmic region of CGM1a is encoded by four exons (Cyt1-Cyt4). Differential splicing of the Cyt1 exon (53 bp)..

Reliability and Effectiveness of the Differential Transformation Method for Solving Linear and Non-Linear Fourth order Boundary Value Problems

    Get PDF
In this paper, differential transformation method is applied to construct analyticsolutions of the boundary value problems for linear and non-linear 4th order nonhomogenousdifferential equations. The differential transformation method istested using three physical model problems. Results are presented in tables andfigures. It was appeared in comparing results of the differential transformationmethod with Rung- Kutta , and RK-Butcher solutions that the differentialtransformation method is more reliable and effective in solving linear and nonlineardifferential equations

Solving Second Order Non-Linear Boundary Value Problems by Four Numerical Methods

    Get PDF
The boundary value problems for the 2nd order non-linear ordinarydifferential equations are solved by using four numerical methods. Thesenumerical methods are Rung-Kutta of 4th order, Rung–Kutta Butcher of 6th order, differential transformation method, and the Homotopy perturbation method. Threephysical problems from the literature are solved by the four methods for comparingthe results. The results were presented in tables and figures. The differentialtransformation method appeared to be effective and reliable to find the seminumerical-analytical solutions for such type of boundary value problems

The Foldable Comic Based on Bengkulu Folktales to Enhance Elementary Students’ HOTS and Social Awarenes

    Get PDF
The development of foldable comic media is highly appealing as a learning tool. This development initiative stems from research aimed at enhancing high-level thinking skills and social awareness among fourth-grade elementary school students. The process involved direct observation of a school and its students, followed by the implementation of foldable comic media as a learning tool. The research and development model used in this study is the Borg and Gall model. The subjects for testing in this research included content experts for the foldable comic's material and presentation experts to validate its visual elements. Additionally, a limited trial was conducted to assess the effectiveness of the developed product. Data collection instruments used in this research and development included validation and effectiveness questionnaires. Data analysis was carried out through both qualitative and quantitative methods. Based on the results of product operational tests, it was found that the use of folding comic media based on Bengkulu folklore could increase learning outcomes at the level of students' Higher Level Thinking Ability in cycle I obtained an average of 59.46 then increased in cycle II with an average of 75.71, students' social care attitudes in cycle I obtained an average of 69.00%, increasing in cycle II with an average of 85.40%. Thus, Folded Comic Media Based on Bengkulu Folklore is effective in improving Higher Level Thinkin

SARS-CoV-2 infection and lung cancer : potential therapeutic modalities

    Get PDF
Human coronaviruses, especially SARS-CoV-2, are emerging pandemic infectious diseases with high morbidity and mortality in certain group of patients. In general, SARS-CoV-2 causes symptoms ranging from the common cold to severe conditions accompanied by lung injury, acute respiratory distress syndrome in addition to other organs’ destruction. The main impact upon SARS-CoV-2 infection is damage to alveolar and acute respiratory failure. Thus, lung cancer patients are identified as a particularly high-risk group for SARS-CoV-2 infection and its complications. On the other hand, it has been reported that SARS-CoV-2 spike (S) protein binds to angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE-2), that promotes cellular entry of this virus in concert with host proteases, principally transmembrane serine protease 2 (TMPRSS2). Today, there are no vaccines and/or effective drugs against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. Thus, manipulation of key entry genes of this virus especially in lung cancer patients could be one of the best approaches to manage SARS-CoV-2 infection in this group of patients. We herein provide a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of the role of ACE-2 and TMPRSS2 genes, as key entry elements as well as therapeutic targets for SARS-CoV-2 infection, which can help to better understand the applications and capacities of various remedial approaches for infected individuals, especially those with lung cancer
