Commodity Credit Corporation: What It Is and How It Works

    Get PDF
For half a century, the Commodity Credit Corporation has been agriculture's "bank" -- the Federal government's financing arm for an array of domestic and international farm programs. It has had an impact on every producer who has received a price support payment or loan, on every organization that has received a commodity donation, and on every banker or foreign government that has received a loan guarantee or line of credit for export sales. Here's a closer look at the CCC and how it operates

    Comprehensive Listing of Aerial Photography

Excerpts: The comprehensive listing shows the various photographic coverages used by the U.S. Department of Agriculture archived at the Aerial Photography Field Office. This library includes photography used by the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) and it predecessor agencies, the U.S. Forest Service (FS) and the Soil Conservation Service (SCS). Coverage of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service and the Soil Conservation Service is listed alphabetically by states and counties. A Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) numerical code is assigned to each county flown by ASCS and SCS after July 1, 1971. Coverage of Forest Service photography is listed alphabetically for each forest within a region. Numerical codes used to identify FS projects are assigned by the Forest Service. Rectified enlargements are available from photography used for ASCS programs. This means that scale, tip, and tilt data, computed through an analytical aerotriangulation system, is available to produce true-to-scale enlargements for indicated projects

Excerpts from the Introduction: Specifically, the responsibilities of the Basic Farm and Producer Data Task Force were two-fold in nature. Initially, to contribute towards total ASCS systems development by identifying and defining the areas of the total system that can be described as basic farm and producer data. This data comprises those records that are or could be common to all programs for which county offices have responsibility. Secondly, upon the completion of this identification and definition phase, the task force was given the charge to study in depth the establishment and maintenance of an overall farm and producer data base and to develop and recommend a conceptual system for collecting and structuring the data in a more efficient and usable mode to provide for: 1. Better servicing the needs of farmers and other users. 2. Contributing to the more effective administration of farm programs. 3. Establishing a base for responsive management information system

Report Foreword: The purpose of this glossary is to familiarize the reader with terminology used in programs administered by the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS), and other selected Departmental operations that touch upon ASCS programs. This is not a definitive glossary. The definitions given are not intended to state or to suggest the correct legal significance or meaning of any word or term. Neither is this publication all-inclusive as to words and terms used in either ASCS programs or other Departmental operations. Finally, terms and definitions included in this glossary are those in use, and in the connotation presented, as of August 15, 1969

History of CCC Bin Storage Program, 1933-1975

    No full text
Report Preface: Over the years probably no Government farm program caused any more controversy than did the CCC bin storage operation. This controversy was not due to inept handling of the program, but the fact that the Federal Government was actually engaging in the storage of commodities which, to the thinking of some, was in direct competition with private enterprise. With the dramatic turnaround of commodity carryovers, the need for this type of storage has ended and the CCC bin storage program phased out. The director of the Grain Division, ASCS, as well as the Storage Section, felt that some of the highlights of the bin storage program should be recorded and made available for future research. With this in mind, the history of the program has been written. Mention of individuals involved in the administration of this program over the years has been omitted primarily because it would be impossible to list all those from the Washington level down through the counties who contributed to the successful administration of this very complicated program
